you just *know* it wasn’t an accident that misa didn’t mention will when he talked about the young guys vancouver training. kiddo is praying on everything he holds dear that will is tied up in boston and he gets “almost two weeks” of mack time without his boybestfriend there, commanding 99.9% of mack’s adoration and attention.
in more (rpf) seriousness, i actually do think will is in an increasingly strange position in all of this. what if you were the boy king’s favorite person, and he really does adore you so so much. but it comes at the expense of others, because he simply doesn’t have bandwidth to love them too when he’s so devoted to you. and no one will ever hold anything against the franchise savior. so instead they kinda resent you for being the one that he loves so much.
#the neverending paradox of being the prodigy’s favorite #the light shining off mack is so warm #but sometimes it can be a little blinding
LOL it’s objectively very funny that Samisa hightailed it outta Van a full week early after watching Mack smile serenely and catch two fish instead of one because he was expecting “company.” Before that, Mack had shown them zero mercy on the Grouse Grind, pushed them to the brink of vomiting, refused to commemorate their suffering with a picture that included him, and then played against them at camp to sharpen their reflexes because they needed to be playoff-ready by October and he was nawt waiting another year for them to “develop” or whatever. As a last ditch attempt to force some bonding, Misa even changed his pfp to match Mack’s, but all that accomplished was Will rolling into town several days ahead of schedule to stake his claim.
And what does Mack do upon Will’s arrival? Rolls out the fucking red carpet. Offers the Celebrini’s guest bedroom, personally drives him to the rink and back, trusts him to play with his precious little brother, takes him to cafés and shops and serene romantic lakes, gives him his custom slides and water bottle and hoodie to use, and takes him fishing again because God forbid Will fail to experience something Mack experienced without him. Naturally, Mack catches an extra fish again in case Will gets hungry. He then orders Aiden to become more Will-pilled expeditiously, so Aiden follows Will on Insta, starts liking his posts, and presumably welcomes him to his and his gf’s anniversary dinner. And, of course, there is no Grouse to grind in the company of true love.
Does this place Will in an increasingly awkward position? It would, if only he weren’t preening beneath all that attention and blatant princess treatment like a cat served premium cream in a crystal saucer. Trust that neither of them gives a single fuck about how their mutually exclusive tunnel vision looks from an outside perspective. The Sharks can’t even complain because their line chemmy keeps putting more and more pucks in the net, while also ensuring that Mack’s temper tantrums and generational crashouts remain safely managed through the joy, balance, and release provided by one William Smith.
The Sharks remain eternally bemused.
