Today I wanted to talk about Marlow Trottie. Marlow was a 35 year old Black woman living in Louisiana, whose friends and family described as always having "a smile on her face" and as being "literally the sweetest person I’ve ever met!”, according to Them news' Quispe López.
Marlow Trottie was killed on June 8th 2026. She was found dead, alone, in the streets of Alexandria, Louisiana. It was a homicide.
Marlow Trottie was a woman. Her family has contested this, and publicly misgendered her, and many news sites have already deadnamed and misgendered her as well. I fear what her obituary will say. I fear what her gravestone will say even more.
She joins a growing list of other trans women who have been killed simply for existing. Again from Them news, that list now numbers 11 women from the past 3 months alone.
I'm way cooler than my dad actually. fuck that guy. I have better hair, I've spent more time working on myself, and I look better in a jacket than he ever did.
I saw this when running newpipe. But wait, it gets deeper. I clicked on the details buttons and it said as of today, we have 83 days left until Google rolls out this new requirement for apps inside and outside of the google play store. If any developer disagrees with their new terms and fees, they will be blocked!
I'll share some of the info below:
Looks like they're trying to nuke the remaining privacy and freedoms we have left on the internet.
What to do?
-Get your developer friends to not comply to their new guides
- Sign the open letter on the site and take action by checking out the full resources list on their website as well!
To summarize, this is all daunting especially when you feel all alone with unfair and inhumane regulations comming out faster than improvements but we got this working together!
Share the link with your friends, family and anyone who will listen!
Your phone is about to stop being yours. In September 2026, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.
honestly it’s less about marjane satrapi and persepolis and more about how that’s the only narrative the western world views as factual or even worth reading
same thing with authors like khaled hosseini. their works show one perspective, a perspective now removed in a sea of different experiences, one that conveniently paints western imperialist agendas in a positive light and even more conveniently becomes the only narrative ever published for western audiences
you can acknowledge someone’s experiences, but you should always ask yourself why, for example, books like this became required reading in many schools alongside other writings meant to shape your opinion a certain way about a certain region and religion
Back in like, 2019, my general sentiment on the subject of the Soviet Union was one similar to, say, the JFK assassination wherein the ongoing discussion surrounding it confused me because it was and is far enough in the rear view mirror that it has lost whatever relevance it would have now. That is still my thoughts on JFK but with the Soviet Union it is very clear that it is still a specter to the western world now as it was across the 20th century. It is something spoken of in hushed tones that force people to leave conversations early. The legitimacy of capital is maintained not through the truth but through the manufacturing of atrocity propoganda. There is no Soviet equivalent to the Book of Names. There is no equivalent time table for the erosion of rights as seen with Nazi Germany. There is no detailed record of such-and-such actions taken by the likes of Stalin that were disastrous to the fate of millions. And yet a not-insignificant number of people act as if there was.
You claim to oppose capitalism but you spit on the names and legacy of the people who built the stairs that you walked on to get to this point.
can’t find a post about it so i’m making my own. the spokane 3 trial reached a verdict today and it was Bad. these people (jac archer, justice forral and bajun mavalwalla II) were part of a group of people arrested After the fact for attending a protest last june on charges of “conspiracy to impede or injure federal officers” (none of them injured anyone and a lot of the people there that day were there in response to a facebook post calling for help to prevent ice from kidnapping a community member. not exactly a conspiracy) this is a federal case and they’ve just announced the verdict and all three have been charged with counts of conspiracy. obviously a not great precedent is set by that verdict, though they are hoping to appeal. this is. miserable. posting this so people are aware because there has been speculation that they will use this as a test case to charge other protesters with felony conspiracy charges
The defendants could face up to six years in federal prison and/or $250,000 in fines. They are expected to appeal the verdict.
I was having a conversation recently where I was trying to explain that I won't be interacting with that one movie this summer because I absolutely cannot stand Chr*stopher Nol@n's work.
I'm well known for being Super Into Ancient Greek Stuff. I'm currently building doll displays from the famous Homerian story.
"Why? What has he done?"
Turns out that they hadn't seen much of his work. So I pointed out some of his films. And I found myself having to defend my position.
My position, which was "I hate this one director and won't watch his films."
I shouldn't have to continue to explain. There's a director. I don't like his stuff. These weren't even people who were familiar with his work, or trying to defend him!
Sigh.
I suppose it's because I'm entertaining when I rant. It might be that my friend genuinely wanted for me to angrily list everything that's wrong with a specific director.
And I have a list of flaws! I really could spend 20 minutes bitching about his style but I didn't want to waste the precious time I had with my friends screaming and ranting.
But for you lovely people, here's the list.
1. Misogyny. This guy clearly doesn't see women as people. It infects every story he tells; the women are props, objects, and exist purely to facilitate a story about a guy.
2. Serious Storytelling does not mean Grimdark. And while he has some skill in telling a Grimdark story, he's not even remotely the best at it.
3. Art should move people. I actually praise art that causes an emotional response, even a negative one. I'm a big fan of things that are clearly brilliant even if they make me uncomfortable. This guy's films make me feel bad, but not in a way that makes me examine the ideas brought forth. It makes me feel bad the way that a bully being fake friendly and then revealing that I had been tricked makes me feel. Like, Gee, I love Batman. Let's go see this Batman film! And I leave the theater feeling like I was swindled.
4. Sometimes cool things happen in his films. It doesn't make them good, though. It's like finding peanut M&Ms in your stew; that's nice but it clearly doesn't belong here. (Plus the stew is pretty mediocre to begin with.) Cool things happen in spite of him, I think.
Take The Prestige, for example. In the wise words of Elsie the Cat: Litterbox.
First of all, Scarlett Johanson was in that movie, and no one remembers this. Her role is the largest women's role in the film and even she couldn't turn it into a memorable character.
Two rival stage magicians are trying to out- do each other and/or ruin each other's careers. It shows us the world of stage magic from the turn of the century, complete with showing how some of the tricks are done. Of course the only ones they show are the mechanical devices that violently kill the stage animals. There is a bit in the middle where the stage magician turns to Nicola Tesla for some "real magic" which could have been utterly amazing. David Bowie plays Tesla! Andy Serkis plays his assistant! But instead of a historically faithful Tesla we get a guy who invented a teleportation machine. A cool thing happened, but it's just a mcguffin.
The machine copies anything that goes into it and sends the copy a few hundred feet away. But the original still exists.
And this new idea is the one that the third act centers on, giving just the shallowest dive into "Is it ethical to copy yourself and kill the original?" rather than anything actually interesting about it.
There's also a thing with a pair of twins that starts out slightly unpleasant and gets progressively more disgusting as it goes.
So yeah, doing a whole story about stage magic where the central theme is "Is any man disposable?' while simultaneously affirming that any random woman actually is disposable, particularly if it drives the plot.
Bleah.
This is the guy who is going to bring an ancient epic take to the silver screen with an all star cast and I'm supposed to care?
Fuck it. I'd rather listen to the Epic soundtrack.
incredibly minor but still dumb side effect of late stage capitalism: ever notice how so many concert venues and stadiums just have the lamest names imaginable. Like ooooh Lady Gaga is playing at the..... Mortgage Stadium? Oh boy the finals are at the.... Chase Bank arena. Can't wait to catch a game at the Garunteed Rate field.
i know everyone is tired of hearing it from me but i'll never be free from how people think you can only ship a het ship WOKELY if the man is a pathetic useless idiot and the girl babysits and pegs him and has the personality of a door. i promise you won't get your woke card revoked if you spend five minutes of your time to consider the girl has a personality and the guy might be a competent person. and maybe she likes getting dicked down and is a little pathetic too. have you considered also liking the girl and maybe wanting her to be a spoiled baby too? also I'll Kill You
"only those who have organs that can give birth deserve protections from misogyny" is just thinly veiled "a woman's value comes from her ability to give birth"
