What if we actually have to wait 2 years for Conformitygate 😭
All of this talk has got me nervous and so I'm finally posting my timeline theory.
Green (highlight) is the correct option (timeline)
Red (highlight) is the incorrect/wrong option (timeline)
Blue (highlight) is all the options we've seen on screen from S1-4
What I found kinda interesting is that if you circle back to the start after finishing at (Vecna wins/loses) the timeline loops back around and is kinda what happens in S5.
At some points I've written 'merged timelines' because both options are true.
(S1) Will dies / Will is alive (comes back alive)
Will isn't breathing when Hopper and Joyce find him, they have to resuscitate him.
(S4) Vecna wins / Vecna loses
Vecna's physical body is destroyed (he lost)
Vecna has destroyed Hawkins (he won)
I'm 1000% sure there's some sort of time fuckery happening and my theory is that while the characters are stuck in Camazotz, they have to keep reliving their lives until Vecna is satisfied with the timeline.
He's made Mike repeat the timeline over and over until there's no chance Byler can happen. He's been destroying it from day 1.
He's made Joyce repeat the timeline so many times she can't remember how old he was when he went missing.
He's made Nancy repeat the timeline so much she's become reckless, doing things she wouldn't normally do (shooting the exotic matter).
I think Mike is the key to getting out of Camazotz and Will is the key to destroying it. Mike can only 'wake up' if he accepts his feelings for Will. He can only save everyone if he's willing to be brave and stand up to Vecna. That's the way of breaking out of the loop and getting back to their normal timeline, where he can still confess and save Will.
