Happy Lesbian Visibility Day! Hereās four historical lesbians you might not have heard of to celebrate the day:
Japanese writer Yoshiya Nobuko, who grew so rich from her stories focussing on relationships between women - both friendships and romances - that she became the first Japanese woman to own a racehorse.
American-French bookseller Sylvia Beach, who was instrumental in publishing James Joyceās Ulysses
American activist Ruth EllisĀ who came out as a lesbian in the first decade of the 1900s, and lived into the 2000s.
Costa Rican-Mexican singer Chavela Vargas, who put a lesbian spin on traditional Mexican music.
Hello all! My name is Beryl Jellicle! I am making this post because we are in need ⦠Beryl Jellicle needs your support for Emergency Housing
Hello all! My name is Beryl Jellicle! I'm making this post because we're in need of help paying our rent again.Ā As some of you may know, I'm a member of a chosen family of LGBTQ+ people of color. Some of us have finally managed to start working, but haven't gotten paid yet.Ā on top of that, many of our housemates (myself included) are disabled, and have been unable to find work, or just haven't been able to work at all.
we're raising funds to pay our rent this month (due may 1st), as well as make a payment on our overdue electricity and gasĀ bills.
Please share our fundraiser, donate if you can, no amount is too small!Ā
Thank you all for your constant support and help, it means the world to our family!

Hello, long story short:
Me (he/they) and my spouse (they/she) are homeless. Both of us are disabled.
We left Texas in late December (2020) and have made our way to the Pacific Northwest. We would like to stay here long-term.
We have a fundraiser. Its goal is enough for a month, roughly, at a generally trustworthy hotel.
Find the link - with all the info you need about us - in the reblogs.
Long story slightly longer under the cut, tho you can find it at the link:

The entire concept of "camp" and its relationship to gay people is hilarious. like yeah gays have just always loved lame shit that sucks
I don't know if you know what camp is
obviously it's lame shit that sucks
Is camp a fandom I should be glad I missed out on?
It's a 'fashion' movement lol. It's about wearing big things that clash with each other, kinda. (Think about drag queens, they're kinda camp, i think)
Loving all these white gays erasing the history of queerness because they think itās edgy.Ā
Drag queens are not ākind of campā - drag queens invented camp. Drag queens are camp. Camp is how gay men (and women! lesbians and wlw can also be camp!) expressed themselves and learned to love themselves in the late 1800s and early 1900s when the crackdowns on homosexuality made those things dangerous.
Camp is meant to be queer, subversive.
āCamp is, or should be, by its very nature, political subversive, and revolutionary.ā
Camp is not your tackyness. Camp is not for you to denegrate. Camp is where the drag balls in Harlem originated, Camp is where gay men learn to love themselves for being completely out of the norms of what traditional heteronormativity wants from them. Camp is where we try on and take off genders like theyāre fashion trends we donāt have time for.
The lack of care that a lot of people have on here for queer history drives me up the fucking wall.
here is a link to the gofundme for the funeral of delaina yaun, a victim of the shooting in atlanta, and another link to the gofundme to support her family, she is survived by 2 children and a husband. (these are both verified by gofundme.)
here is a gofundme link for elcias hernandez ortiz, who was shot but is currently in intensive care as i write this. he was the only survivor of this attack. his family will need help paying for the medical bills. (cnn includes this link in an article about the attack.)
if i find any more links to the help out the victims friends and family i will add them.
thank you for donating if you can, and thank you for sharing. everyone please stay safe.
rb to add that the delaina yaun gfm has reached itās goal and the 2nd link to help support her family is no longer accepting donationsĀ
however, elcias ortiz is at $ 47k/150,000 of his goal, his wife is raising this money for him after he was shot in the head

idk what cis woman needs to hear this but trans women aren't your enemy. they share your struggle against misogyny, even thought it's sometimes in different ways. it's all misogyny!! physical and sexual violence, judgement and coercion surrounding appearance, genetalia, and gender performance, poor access to healthcare, violence at the hands of men specifically, fetishization, etc. trans women are women who happen to be in an even more vulnerable position than other women. misogyny affects us ALL and excluding trans women from feminist spaces-- or worse, blaming them for violence against women-- will never be radical or revolutionary. you're just denying support and resources to an extremely vulneravle group of women.
ā¦in Harlem tolerance extended to such a degree that black lesbians in butch/femme couples married each other in large wedding ceremonies, replete with bridesmaids and attendants. Real marriage licenses were obtained by masculinizing a first name or having a gay male surrogate apply for a license for the lesbian couple. Those licenses were actually placed on file in the New York City Marriage Bureau.
Odd Girls and Twilight Lovers, Lillian Faderman.
this book is really good btw and also goes into detail about how white women basically went to Harlem for sex tourism with black women then after they were done went back to their white spaces
yes! Lillian Faderman recorded how white gay culture has historically appropriated and exploited black culture for entertainment and self expression. itās good to read a gay history book that holds us accountable
I feel so much safer whenever gnc folks are around. butches, effeminate gay men, androgynous nonbinary folks, unapologetic visibly trans folks, thank all of you for just existing and walking around and making public spaces feel more like home

trans women can use pronouns other than she/her. and frankly theyāre sexy for doing it
this includes he/him btw. no transfem person is obligated to explain to you how they experience gender and why they use the pronouns they use. i love trans women who use he/him and any other pronouns as much as those who use she/her. they are still women. pronouns do not equal gender.
happy valentineās day to all wlw! i hope you will have a day filled with love, of any kind youād like- romantic, platonic, self love, familial love, etc! <3 the bonds you have are beautiful and deserve to be celebrated, and you are wonderful just as you are!
Donna Burkett and Manonia Evans: Became One of the first same-sex couples to apply for a marriage license in 1971. Ā
Iāve been seeing this pick back up again recently, I think ppl have abandoned the effort to stop the spread of mass misuse of sociopolitical language thatās built specifically for black contexts & black use. But I havenāt š
Both āantiblackā & ānonblackā are terms created with the intention of communicating something particular to black experiences & racism. Replacing the āblackā in these terms with other races or even other marginalized groups outside of racial contexts completely isnāt just exploitative of black ppls work but it also misrepresents the issues weāre discussing.
Iāve said this 100 times already, but ānonblackā serves to acknowledge all other groups as oppressors > black ppl. Applying it to other groups does not work bc not everyone occupies this same space in society, not everyone experiences oppression from all other groups, and it often is intentionally used as an antiblack dogwhistle to push the false narrative that black ppl do oppress other nbpoc. Here is a post where I talk about it some more.
Here is an article that explains that our status as oppressed by all other groups is an intrinsic part of the meaning of the term āantiblackā. Some quotes from it: āAnti-black racism is the specific exclusion and prejudice against people visibly of African descent...the term āanti-black racismā is helpful and can help us unpick how and why racism affects different ethnic groups in different ways... People from other ethnic minority groups can enact anti-black policies and hold anti-black beliefs.ā Again, āanti-[nonblack race]ā implies a societal position that all groups do not hold.
Before you ask: 1) no, antisemitism is not appropriative or racist. It is its own term with its own historical use that wasnāt created as a ripoff of antiblack. 2) sometimes we canāt afford to not spread something bc it uses these terms. if you can, yes I do expect you to pass up a post that uses them. Whether you decide itās best to reblog it still or not, I expect you to respectfully leave a comment bringing attention to the antiblack terminology. It shouldnāt be up to black people to address this by ourselves and it is not derailing to simply tell someone they said smthn antiblack.
Iām not arguing with racists about whether or not black people oppress nbpoc lol. I will just block you so donāt waste your time.
Itās bhm u can tip me for the time & energy I put into explaining & sharing information abt racism :) $heartemojie, @babiephace on venmo, paypal.me/13thead
