SLAP!
the sound cracks across the parking lot, sharp enough to startle a flock of birds.
thirteen-year-old sukuna barely flinches. his head turns with the force of it, cheek already burning, his soccer bag slips from his shoulder and thuds against the concrete.
late evening sun hangs low behind the bleachers, practice long over. most of the other kids have already been picked up. a few parents glance over, then quickly look away. koari stands in front of him, chest heaving, car door still open behind her.

chapter 7: horizon
wc: 6.7k
Sukuna's lips refused to leave yours, taking his time with how his tongue danced with yours; breathing you in and breathing you out in time with the crashing waves outside.
He swallowed you whole in each long inhale, a need punctuated with the roll of his hips against you. It filled your lungs with his scent – salty, you noted, just as the ocean – a part of you that had started to rub off on him.
And then you both relaxed in tandem as you exhaled, bodies melting together like you were sinking, one falling deeper into the other. A kiss that refused to break, that only adapted to the rhythm your desire set.
Your hands were on his shoulders – his was between your legs. Sukuna's attempts at restraint were laughable at best, but despite the way his finger softly grazed the fabric of your underwear, he still refused to go further.
DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
r. sukuna x girly f!reader... Where Sukuna can't keep his eyes off his dirty little secret-- the receptionist at his auto shop.
notes: suggestive dialogue, cussing, and Sukuna being whipped
The neon light of Itadori Auto Shop flickered as Hikaru walked in. It was a misty morning; he took a cold shower, kissed his wife goodbye (she couldn’t make him lunch today, she was in a rush for a job meeting), and listened to some jazz music on the way here. When he entered the shop, the smell of motor oil and acetone greeted him like an old friend, and he spotted some of his fellow employees. Touya, Yohei, and the rest of them were all together, in the middle of a big conversation with Sukuna.
Sukuna was the head, as well as the owner, of the auto shop. His father, Wasuke, was a very stubborn man, and would’ve kept working if it weren’t for an accident he had involving a particularly heavy part nearly crushing the old man’s ankle. Sukuna had still been working then, but now he had taken over his father’s responsibilities on being owner of the place. Sukuna was definitely unlike his father, Hikaru noticed. Wasuke might’ve been an old cranky man, but he was all bark compared to Sukuna; towering over everyone at the shop at 6’2 with tattoos and piercings littering his body, Sukuna Itadori definitely screamed trouble. Hikaru always tried to maintain his distance from the guy (although he was usually friendly with his coworkers), because when he got upset, it was terrifying. Yohei told him once that a customer was so rude to the point that he spat in his face, in which Sukuna knocked his front tooth out in response.
“Now look who’s here!” Touya exclaimed, getting up to pat Hikaru on the back. “We were just talking about heading over to the bar tonight. All of us are down, but the boss over here isn’t too keen on going,”
He jerks a thumb toward Sukuna, who rolls his eyes and merely grunts. “I told you idiots, I’ve got plans for tonight—“
“Like brooding around in your house?” Yohei snickered, and everyone else broke into laughter. It was true, Sukuna was usually bitter, and these days, he’s been more reserved than ever.
Sukuna glared at his coworkers, wondering why his father had ever hired them in the first place. “Very amusing. No, I’m going out to dinn—“
The door suddenly burst open, and everyone went silent as you walked in, heels clacking on the floor. You were the receptionist, always taking calls and orders from the customers. Everyone at the shop respected you, but they had to admit your personality was very… different from the rest of the guys. Your desk was littered with little My Melody figurines and fashion magazines, and you were always playing some pop song.
Sukuna had hired you about 3 years ago because the old receptionist had quit. Yohei had told Hikaru that from the day you walked in with your flare jeans and high heels, you were certainly trouble for everyone. A lot of the employees found you attractive, but no one’s ever dared to make a move, because you simply wouldn’t let them. Hikaru has noticed that you looked like a ditzy bimbo, but you were actually very witty and didn’t let men walk all over you. In fact, you sort of kept everyone here into shape.
Well, everyone except Sukuna.
You were both very stubborn people, and Hikaru has noticed that the two of you bantered more than often. Usually, the fights ended with you getting your way, and with Sukuna muttering a string of curses under his breath. The rest of the guys thought that Sukuna was probably only keeping you because your beautiful face and your nice ass kept the customers rolling, but Hikaru didn’t think that he hated you at all.
“Good morning boys,” You beamed, waving at all the employees. Today, you were wearing a plaid skirt and a pink blouse with some high heels. But the men weren’t looking at your outfit; like ravenous dogs, they immediately started crowding you as soon as they saw the box of donuts in your hand.
Touya smirked, taking the box from your hands like the gentleman he is. “You’re such a blessing, sweetheart. Just what we needed in the morning.”
You watched as the men each snatched a donut (some even snatched two, greedy bastards), until the only one left was a pink donut with sprinkles. One of the men was about to snatch it when Sukuna barked at him. “Kaito, what are you, a pig? This is your fourth fuckin’ donut.”
Sukuna looked up at you, pointing at the donut. “Eat.”
You furrowed your brows, knowing Sukuna is a man of few words, but still appreciating his weird way of showing kindness. You picked the donut up, taking a bite of it. Everyone stared at you, then at Sukuna, and began to laugh. Yohei smirked, “Someone’s gotta a soft spot for the little secretary.”
Both you and Sukuna rolled your eyes at the same time, and Sukuna spoke up, “I’m not being soft. She bought you all donuts, it only seems right that she gets the one that looks like she threw up on it.”
You felt the corners of your mouth tug when he began to speak, but as soon as he made that comment about your donut, you narrowed your eyes at him. He smirked back.
What a bastard.
With your donut in your mouth, you sauntered back to your desk, taking out your pink agenda and reading out the itinerary for today. “Okay boys, so we got Mr. Nakamura coming by for his monthly checkup, that call yesterday from those teenage boys which I still haven’t figured out if it is a prank or not, but I guess we’ll find out today. Teenage boys can be such idiots, wow. Were you guys ever like that? My brother certainly was— he was a real piece of work, that guy. Still is,” You rambled on, and the guys shared a look with each other.
Sukuna merely just rolled his eyes before interrupting you. “You’re going off on a tangent.”
“Whoops,” You sighed, looking back down at the agenda. “Oh, and Ms. Aoshima needs her brake fixed. That’s all.”
“You heard her boys,” Sukuna said, getting up from the workbench. “Let’s get to work. Touya, go fetch me a spare brake pad from the storage.”
Touya grinned, turning on his heel before saying, “Not if you say the magic word.”
“Go fuck yourself,”
12:30 eventually rolled around, and it was lunch time. Most of the guys always ate out in the diner that was just 2 blocks away, and since Hikaru didn’t have any lunch, he decided to join them. While everyone was putting on their jackets, he noticed Sukuna sitting at the workbench’s taking out his lunch. “Hey boss, you’re not gonna join us at the diner? You don’t gotta order anything, just at least keep us company.”
Sukuna grunted, “Nah, I think I’m gonna keep working on this Honda. It’s givin’ me more trouble than I initially thought.”
“Okay,” Hikaru nodded, heading out the door. “See ya later, boss.”
Once the door closes, Sukuna puts his lunch down before heading towards the bathroom. His father never bothered to put a female restroom because he’s never had a female employee up until you, who has been in the bathroom for the past fifteen minutes. Sukuna banged on the door, “Can you hurry up, woman? I need to take a piss.”
“Sorry, boss. Lemme just finish putting on my gloss.” You replied, and a few seconds later you opened the door to a very upset Sukuna.
“The bathroom isn’t your personal vanity,” He said staring down at you. He couldn’t help and admit how cute you looked with that pout on your face and your lips coated with that pink sparkly gloss that you always kept in your pocket. He stepped forward, “It’s for everyone to use, and I can’t have you acting ridiculous and putting on makeup at every hour when we have to use the bathroom.”
He paused before slipping his arms around your waist and pulling you closer. “Stupid woman. You don’t need all that shit anyway. You looked beautiful this morning, and you look beautiful now.”
Before you could respond, Sukuna crashed his lips onto yours, which caused you to drop your makeup bag and instead focus on the hot man in front of you. He cupped your face as he tasted your mouth, his piercing feeling cold against your tongue. God, you were always a sucker for his tongue piercing and the way it felt in your mouth. You pulled away and wiped the lip gloss off his lips, “You’ve got a little something there, Kuna.”
Sukuna grunts (but he secretly loved tasting your strawberry flavored lip gloss), leading you to the workbench where your lunch was also waiting. You sat next to him and both began to dig into your meals. You continued, “I wonder how long this charade will take. I mean, it’s been two years and none of them have a clue about our marriage. Not that I want them to know, I like having this as a secret.” You leaned your head on his shoulder, rubbing your free hand over his tattoos.
“Hikaru definitely knows something,” Sukuna pointed out, feeding you some of his salmon. “The guy is always maintaining his distance from you, and he looks at me like I could snap is head in half.”
“You do look like that,” you said giggling, and he glared at you. “Honey, it’s true. Didn’t you actually knock someone’s tooth out because they were being super rude to you?”
Sukuna scoffed, “That’s a just a story I say to entertain these bafoons. I like seeing how scared they get.”
Then, in a lower voice, he said, “I actually knocked both his front teeth out.”
You looked at him wide-eyed, and Sukuna couldn’t help but give a smirk. “Don’t worry, doll. I’m trying my best for you. Although I can’t make no promises if someone tries to hurt you.”
“Please, Kuna. You were barely holding yourself back when you saw Touya hanging by my desk.” You take the last bite and put your bento down. “I saw the steam coming out of your ears. You looked so adorable, like an angry kitten.”
“I’d prefer if you didn’t refer to me as that, woman.” Sukuna grumbled, even though his ears were bright red.
You couldn’t hide your snicker as you noticed how flustered he was. “Aww, you look so adorable right now. I just wanna pinch your cheeks.”
You got up and pinched his cheeks, and he merely glared at you. Secretly, he was enjoying all this affection from his wife considering that he didn’t get to be affectionate with you for half of the day. But he would rather jump off a cliff before admitting to you that your affectations were his soft spot.
The two of you spent the rest of the lunch break doing the usual— sharing childhood stories, gossip about coworkers, and having Sukuna indulge in your fashion addiction. Currently, he stood over you as you were shopping at some online boutique, showing him all the outfits that you wanted to buy. So far, he’s approved more than half of the items, and he knows he’s in deep trouble if you keep finding any more. You click on a light pink lacey set that includes a camisole and shorts. “C’mon, Kuna. I have to get these. Can’t you imagine me getting out of the shower in these?”
Yes, Sukuna can imagine it very vividly, and if he doesn’t stop thinking about you in that set, he’s probably going to do something stupid. He raises an eyebrow. “Let me see the model. I wanna see how it would look on you. “
You click on the next slide, and Sukuna’s eyes widen. “You need more PJ sets. Go buy that one,”
You grinned happily, “Thank you. Now about the lingerie—“
Your shopping spree was suddenly interrupted by the sound of the door opening, where the rest of the me walked in. Sukuna immediately pulled away from you, and you pretended to read from the computer screen. “That part is probably coming in tomorrow, so we’d have to delay Mr. Gojo’s appointment.”
Sukuna nodded before looking back up at the men. “Took all of you long enough. Let’s get back to work.”
He left your desk, but not before subtly giving your ass a smack. You bit back your squeak and glared at your husband before returning to the computer. You supposed the conversation for lingerie could wait a couple of hours.
Hikaru squinted when he noticed the glare you gave Sukuna. He nudged Yohei and whispered, “Do you think the boss is hooking up with our secretary?”
Yohei stared at his coworker in disbelief. “Are you kidding? Sukuna hates her guts. He’d always talking about how irritating she is, prancing around in her miniskirts.”
“I think I just saw him slap her ass,”
Yohei cackled at that. “You must be seeing things, man. I don’t even think Sukuna’a her type. No way a sweet girl like her would ever get with such a grumpy man like him.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” Hikaru muttered, stealing a glance at Sukuna, who was trying not to stare at you working hard on your desk.
But still, opposites do attract…
a/n: not edited as per usual, but hey this is my first time writing for sukuna. he's an itadori in this blurb, because i might honestly continue writing this series and include yuji and choso (i'm a sucker for uncle!kuna). also this is probably ooc, i haven't watched season 3 yet and i'm not that far in the manga

“hiii!” you swing the door to the frat open with a bright smile, toeing off your shoes at the front.
the chatter stills.
gojo, geto and toji go silent and look at you like you have a third eye.
“uh, choso’s not here,” gojo says after a pause, scratching the back of his head.
“that’s okay!” you say cheerily, plopping onto the couch like it’s something you’ve done a million times before. “his class is running late, i think. he’ll be here soon. it’s okay if i sit, right?”
“yeah,” toji interrupts. “yeah, you’re good.”
you grin and launch into an explanation about your day, bracelets jingling with all of your hand movements, every time you play with your hair absently.
gojo leans back but his eyes keep flicking back to you. geto’s got his chin in his hand, watching you like you’re a documentary he didn’t expect to get invested in, and toji’s quiet, arms crossed, but there’s this faint, amused curve to his mouth.
“—and then my prof literally spilled coffee on his own notes,” you finish, laughing, “like fully drenched them. it was tragic.”
gojo snorts. “that’s insane.”
“right??”
“you talk with your whole body,” toji says suddenly.
you blink at him, then laugh again, bright and easy. “is that a bad thing?”
“nah,” he says. “just…noticeable.”
geto hums. “you’ve got energy.”
“i’ve been told i’m a lot,” you say, but you’re smiling when you say it.
“good,” gojo says. “he needs that.”
you tilt your head. “choso?”
“yeah,” gojo grins. “he’s like a haunted house. you’re like…a carnival.”
you laugh, covering your mouth. “that’s so mean.”
“it’s accurate,” toji mutters.
“i think he’s sweet,” you say, softer now, almost to yourself.
“i don’t get it,” gojo says, looking at you with curious eyes. “like, seriously. how—how did you guys even get together, like—”
“oh, we have a class together, and i thought he was really cute. so he was sitting in the back row and i sat beside him because i know the prof is the kinda guy that calls on the students at the front? and i was just talking to choso a lot and i asked him to get coffee, right? and—”
before anyone can respond, the front door swings open. choso steps in, a little breathless, bag swung over his shoulder, and freezes.
his eyes land on you instantly, and you light up even more.
“choso!” you bound toward him and before he has the time to register it your hands are curling up into the front of his shirt and you lean up and kiss him.
his hands lift, a little hesitant, before settling at your waist, and your lips curve into a smile against his.
behind you?
three very visible thumbs up.
gojo is beaming like a proud parent. toji’s smirking. geto just gives a small nod.
you smile at choso like you didn’t just short-circuit him. “c’mon,” you say, tugging his hand. “let’s go upstairs?”
he nods immediately. “okay.”
you lace your fingers through his without thinking twice and start pulling him toward the stairs.
as you pass the couch, “remember tempo,” gojo whispers.
“shut up,” choso mutters, mortified.
toji just laughs under his breath. “go get it, hover-boy.”
“i’m not—” choso cuts himself off as you tug him along, not even looking back.
the door to his room clicks shut behind you.
choso’s still holding your hand. his fingers are warm and a little tense, like he’s not sure what to do next but he’s trying very hard to do it right.
you step closer to him. he inhales.
“…hi,” he says, voice softer than downstairs, like it only exists for you.
you smile up at him, bright, a little playful. “hi.”
he’s already blushing. ears, cheeks, even the tips of his fingers look a little pink where they’re laced with yours.
cute.
you tilt your head, studying him for a second like you’re deciding something before closing the space.
your hands slide up from his to his chest, fingers curling lightly into his shirt again, and you lean in slower.
his breath catches, but he doesn’t freeze like before.
progress.
he remembers.
his hands don’t hang uselessly at his sides anymore. they settle at your waist, a little tentative at first, then firmer when you don’t pull away.
you kiss him, and he kisses back.
it’s still a little careful at first, like he’s double-checking every movement against some invisible checklist, but it doesn’t take long before he melts into it. his grip at your waist steadies, thumbs brushing lightly against your sides, pulling you just a little closer.
he tilts his head this time.
your lips part slightly and he follows your lead, slower, softer, matching you instead of freezing up.
“you’re doing really good,” you say, and then you kiss him again, a little deeper this time. his hand shifts slightly, a bit higher on your waist now, a little more sure.
you hum softly, letting your hands slide up over his shoulders, then around the back of his neck, fingers brushing through the ends of his hair. he shivers at that, barely noticeable, but you catch it.
“choso,” you whisper, just pulling back enough to look at him.
his eyes are a little unfocused, lips parted, cheeks flushed like he’s been standing too close to a fire.
“…yeah?” he breathes.
you smile, softer now. “are you comfortable?”
he nods immediately, then pauses, like he remembers something.
“…are you?” he asks, a little more carefully.
your expression warms. “yeah,” you say. “i am.”
that seems to settle something in him.
you lean in again, pushing him softly down onto his bed, but this time your lips don’t go back to his. they brush along his jaw instead, slow and deliberate, and you feel the way his breath catches again, sharper this time.
your lips ghost down to his neck, and you suck just slightly above his collarbone.
a high-pitched sound gets caught in his throat, and he flushes a deeper shade of red. “s—sorry—”
“it’s okay,” you giggle, kissing up his jaw again. “is this okay?”
“yes,” he breathes out quickly. “yeah. yes.”
his head tilts slightly, giving you more space without even realizing he’s doing it. his grip shifts again, a little firmer now.
“you can touch me more, you know,” you murmur, playful but gentle.
“…i am,” he says, a little flustered.
you laugh softly. “i mean like—you don’t have to be scared.”
that earns a quiet huff from him, almost embarrassed, but his hands do move. one slides a little higher along your side, more confident now, less hesitant.
there you go.
you press one last soft kiss just below his ear before pulling back enough to look at him again.
he looks wrecked.
blushing, breathing a little uneven, eyes still fixed on you like he’s trying to memorize every second.
you chew on your bottom lip, noting how his eyes track the movement. he swallows thickly.
“can i see you?” he blurts. “i mean—can i please…see you?”
you smile softly, settling in his lap, and his hands grip your waist tightly, eyes wide and soft. you feel him growing hard beneath you. it goes straight to your ego.
you wordlessly pull off your tank and choso goes red to his neck, eyes stuck on your red lace bra and the way your tits spill out the top.
he’s visibly buffering, jaw slack like he’s struggling to come up with words.
“i—” he starts, then stops. he looks like he forgot how sentences work.
you laugh softly, leaning in just enough that your forehead almost brushes his. “you’re thinking too hard again.”
“i’m not thinking,” he mutters, but it’s weak.
you smile, and he visibly tracks it like it’s magnetic. his hands tighten at your waist again, a little more certain now.
“you’re really pretty,” he sputters out suddenly.
you pause, then your expression softens in a way that makes his ears go even redder, if that’s even possible.
“you’re cute,” you whisper back, guiding his hands to your tits, and when he finally grasps them, he lets out a shaky breath, squeezing, testing the weight of them.
you smile, and that serves as a sort of encouragement for him. he leans down and presses soft kisses to your neck, to your tits over your bra, and your eyes flutter shut, fingers combing through his hair.
he shifts beneath you. you feel the obvious strain in his jeans, and choso stills, lifting his lips from your chest.
“i—oh,” he whispers out when you rock your hips back down onto him, testing. “oh—”
“you good?” you whisper, kissing his jaw and rolling your hips down a little harder, and he makes a sound akin to a whimper, hands tightening at your waist.
“yeah, i’m just—‘t feels really good,” he says quietly. he bucks up into you, making a soft, broken noise, and he cups your tits again, burying his face in your neck like he’s embarrassed show you how red he’s gotten.
you giggle and rub yourself along him with more intention, the feel of him pressed firmly against you. it sends a rush to your chest, and you part your lips softly, looping your arms around his shoulders and tilting his head up to capture his lips in a kiss.
you slide your tongue along his and he tries to imitate your actions, eager but clumsy. it does something dizzying to your head, combined with his desperate little thrusts up against your shorts.
“mnh—cho,” you exhale into the kiss, and that makes him whine again, his brows pinching together as he starts to move your waist down onto him.
“please,” he whispers, small thrusts growing needier, quicker. you moan softly, kissing him hard, and he pulls back slightly, face flushed and eyes blown wide.
“i—i think i’m close,” he says, embarrassed. “i’m sorry—”
“hey, it’s okay, choso,” you say softly, slowing your hips for a second. “that’s—”
“don’t stop, please,” he mumbles, pulling you flush against him. “i—”
“lemme—lemme help,” you say, slightly flustered now, hands working at the buttons of his jeans until you pull them down slightly, his boxers tented obscenely.
choso lets out a shaky breath when you pull those down, too, and the second your soft, warm hand wraps around his pretty cock he’s cumming with a needy little whimper, head lolling back, adam’s apple bobbing.
you watch thick spurts of cum bubble out his tip and you swipe at it slowly, his moans softening.
“w—wow,” he whispers, cheeks muddied with colour and eyes dewy. “that—that was—”
his words die in this throat when you suck your fingers clean.
from downstairs, the music is blaring (a little louder, just in case), and gojo keeps glancing at the stairs like he’s waiting for you to run down and leave.
“can you hear anything?” he asks, to which toji slaps his arm.
“fuckin’ weirdo. let them do their whatever-thing,” toji grumbles with a laugh.
“five bucks he nutted in his pants,” geto says.
“hey, ten he didn’t,” gojo interjects with a grin.
“i bet he passed out before they got to do anything,” toji says.
“how much you betting?” gojo asks with a smirk.
“nothing.”
“broke ass.”
“shut up!”

back to me
Seeing you two and a half years after a sudden disappearance post-graduation with a pink-haired toddler isn’t what he expected- but it definitely makes him see things differently.
Sukuna misses you and that just solidifies the fact that he wants you back.
soft!kuna my love.. wc : 1.8k
part one | s.masterlist
In college you were wild. What hot young woman wouldn’t be?
Wild may be an understatement, but your junior and senior year was spent at every group study session, student body meeting, the occasional party.
Rarely the after parties.
Having an on-and-off-again popular boyfriend that dragged you out despite your protests played a big part in that. It wasn't very often Sukuna did want to go to parties, but he always made you tag along with him.
Sukuna made sure to show you off during parties, cockily flaunting you around as the two of you danced. Not that he really cared what others thought about either of you. You weren’t as popular as the frat boys or your boyfriend. Most people knew you from the student body— and your looks before you even got involved with Sukuna.
A kind, intelligent, ineluctable young woman with her big, arrogant nerd of a boyfriend. The perfect balanced couple… is what people would have thought if the two of you didn’t take breaks so often.
You and Sukuna can’t stay far from each other at all. You’ve tried multiple times when you’ve broken up before. It always ended the same.
An apology. Some cursing. Him making you cum so hard you rarely even cared about why you broke up. Getting back together.
It was routine.
Usually.
During a typical break in your relationship, Sukuna slept some random girl; maybe after a party. As petty and jealous as you are when it comes to him, you got your lick back and slept with someone in the frat.
Needless to say, the argument had was not pretty.
That… situation is what led you two to finally split for good. Not without you having one last anger-fueled night in his bed.
An anger-fueled night that ended up with you pregnant, unbeknownst to you at the time.
You only found out you were pregnant the day of graduation, and at that point you weren’t keen on telling anyone. Especially not Sukuna.
You can vividly cast your mind back to the way he eyed you that morning; his red eyes meticulously following you across the stage, lingering on you whilst your pictures were taken. As if he was waiting for a moment for your eyes to meet like they used to, followed by that pretty smile he loved.
You made sure to avoid him, though. His presence, his eyes... his friends. You got through the ceremony without any interaction between you two like you wanted.
You and your child could move on with your lives together. Without Sukuna, like you wanted.
And you succeeded.
A few months after graduation, you had your baby girl you absolutely adored even though she had her father's looks; right out the womb with pink wispy hair— a punch to your solar plexus, really. A tiny reminder of him that you couldn't help falling in love with the moment she was put in your arms.
Suki was everything to you. Sure, being a new mom at 21 was a learning curve, yet you took pride in how well you were doing on your own. You had a decent sized apartment, an easy office job that gave you enough money to take care of things, and a beautiful daughter.
The first few months of Suki's life left you delirious, worn, and exhausted beyond belief. What little bit of your social life you had left slowly dwindled down to your days being just you and Suki. You weren't really upset about it, though. You got enough "friendly" interaction at work with your coworkers.
Currently?
Suki toddled alongside you in the park, holding her brand new stuffed bunny she had picked out at the store a short while ago. After you two went shopping it was routine for you to spend time at the park, enjoying the fall weather together.
The park was rather empty today, only a few parents and other small children playing on the various equipment. Good, you thought. Suki preferred when the park wasn't too crowded— as did you.
"Suki, want mommy to push you on the swings?" You crouch to her level, smiling as you motion to the swings a few feet away.
Suki barely spares you a glance, quickly but unsteadily toddling over to the swings. "Mama, push!" She chirped, bouncing on her toes in excitement when you follow after her with a fond chuckle.
You scoop her up, carefully sitting her into the baby swing with her bunny still in her hand. "You wanna hold bunny or should I-"
"Mine!"
"Alright then." You sigh, watching her hold the stuffed bunny tighter as you step forward to start pushing the swing gently.
It squeals with effort, moving back and forth… and back and forth. The repetitive motion is relaxing, for both you and Suki.
Suki's been looking at you mostly, a cheerful grin on her chubby face… until her eyes drift just behind you and to your legs, gaining the curious glint you know all too well with a tilt of her head. You look down behind you, only to see a small boy a bit older than your daughter with black and pink hair.
Huh. Maybe he wandered away from his parents.
You mentally shrug it off, your attention returning to Suki… who's still staring at the little boy behind you.
One of your brows raise, stopping the swing for a moment. "Do you wanna play with him? You keep staring at him." You question, holding your arms out toward her to see if she wants to get out of the seat.
Suki looks between you and the pink-haired boy, reaching up to you after a second. As you set her down beside you; she hesitantly approaches the boy, clutching her bunny tightly. You stand close by, deciding to observe whatever little interaction they'll have.
"Hi! You have pink hair too!" The boy beams, practically shouting when he notices Suki standing by him. "What's your name?- I'm Yuji! I'm… this many!" Yuji holds up 3 fingers, smiling widely.
Suki nods shyly, squeezing her plushy closer to her. "I'm Suki, and.. this many." She struggles for a second with her motor skills, holding up two fingers.
A pause… then: "Wan' play?"
"Yes!" Yuji squeals, running off to the playset.
You smile when Suki comes up to you, giving you her bunny. "I'll be here. Go have fun," you assure her, patting her head in permission.
Suki hugs your leg in silent thanks, bounding after Yuji.
It's nice for her to finally have a friend to play with, rather than playing alone or with you like she usually does. You walk over to a bench near the playset, watching the two of them take turns going down the small slide and giggling while crawling in the tubes.
It's an adorable thing to witness.
Yuji and Suki play for nearly two hours straight. Endlessly.
You almost feel bad when you go to interrupt the two of them.
You walk and sit on the edge of the playset, checking the time on your phone. 6:03 PM.
The two toddlers are still laughing, caught in their own imaginary adventure. You clear your throat, turning to face them. "Hey, it's time for us to go, baby. Tell Yuji bye bye." You utter sympathetically, preparing for the incoming refutation.
Suki stares blankly at you for a long moment, her brows furrowed in annoyance— but the exhaustion outweighs the need for more playtime. Yuji pouts as well, standing beside you.
"Mama-" A yawn interrupts her. Suki rubs at her eyes, reluctantly nodding. She mumbles a soft bye to Yuji, holding her arms out to you. You scoop her up in your arms, holding her against your shoulder.
A quick glance around has you concerned for Yuji- there doesn't seem to be any other adults that are alone out.
"Where's your parents, sweetheart?" You inquire, walking with him around the park. You can't just leave a toddler alone when its becoming so late. What kind of mom would you be?
Yuji shakes his head, "Not mommy, Uncle took me to the park." He admits quietly.
You simply nod, searching for a singular man now rather than a couple. "Okay, your uncle.. Did he say he was going somewhere?" you ask, taking his hand in your free one. Suki is already half asleep in your arms. Yuji holds your hand tightly, trying to remember what his uncle said earlier. "No…"
So he should still be around the park.
You and Yuji continue your walk down the trail, until a gruff voice sounds out:
"Yuji. What are you doing, brat? I was looking for you by the obstacle course."
You stop in your tracks, eyes widening. You know that voice. Even if you haven't heard it in years—the same voice that you used to dream about— Your ex.
Sukuna.
Yuji lets go of your hand, rushing to Sukuna—his uncle— with a smile. "Uncle Kuna! I was playing." The three year old grasps onto his uncles hand. "Thanks Suki's mommy!"
A pause. You can feel Sukuna staring at your back.
Then a whisper of your name.
You swallow the lump in your throat, turning to face him. "Sukuna."
Lo and behold, he's barely changed since the last time you've seen him. Still tall, but somehow looking larger than life in front of you like this. Maybe its just the anxiety—or the fact that you still thought he looked as handsome as ever.
Or the fact that you had his daughter and never told him.
The same daughter asleep in your arms.
His eyes meet yours, a gleam of recognition, attraction, and… something else. "Didn't expect to see you here- or again, really. That your kid?" Sukuna nods at Suki, sharp eyes already speculating at the color of her hair.
You could die right now, honestly.
"Yeah, she's mine. I.. I just wanted to make sure Yuji got to his guardian safely." You stammer, unsure what next to say to him— and completely clueless on how to escape this conversation.
"It's been too long.. you look as good. As always," Sukuna smirks, slowly dragging his eyes down your figure. "I think we should talk about some things- reconnect, y'know. Gimme your number." He demands, handing you his unlocked phone.
"I.. yeah," You agree, still in partial shock that this is even happening. You type in your number reluctantly, saving your own contact and hand him back his phone. "I guess we'll catch up another time." You force a tight smile.
Sukuna hums in agreement, looking back at the sleeping Suki. "We will. Plenty of stuff to talk about." He says pointedly, giving you a knowing look. "Thanks for looking out for my nephew."
You nod, muttering a small deflection. "No problem… I'm gonna get going now. Bye Yuji, Sukuna," you offer a wave, quickly turning in the opposite direction.
Yuji waves while Sukuna just watches you walk to the parking lot. He has a lot on his mind now.
You, his—possible—daughter, you again…
How much more attractive he finds you.
How he still has feelings for you.
He stares down at your contact, already planning what to text you later.
"Lets get you home Yuji." Sukuna grunts, leading Yuji to the car.
That'll just have to wait till later.

“Keep your breathing even. You’ll never hit anything if you keep trembling like that.”
Sukuna’s voice was barely above a whisper, careful not to scare off the deer grazing nearby, as he gently corrected the positioning of the bow that his nephew was tightly grasping. The boy’s small hands were barely large enough to hold the weapon, its size far better suited to someone with Sukuna’s stature.
But that didn’t mean that the seven year old wasn’t doing his absolute best.

“Being an adult is a fucking scam.”
You leaned back in your desk chair, your head tilted back as you ran your hands down your face, an annoyed groan leaving you. Tugging your bottom eyelids down for a moment, you released them with a sigh.
Your eyes narrowed as you looked at your laptop once more, the Suumo webpage glaring back at you and irritating you more the longer you stared at it. Since getting home from work, you had been sitting in your room, scrolling through the newest listings on the realtor page, hoping to finally find either a house or an apartment.
Once again, your search came up short.
In the few months you had been working at the auto shop, you had managed to save a good bit of money from your paycheck—placing most of it into your savings while still keeping enough to get you through the week if you needed it. You had been doing your best, but unfortunately the housing market continued to throw it in your face that your best was apparently not good enough.
Because no matter how much you had saved in the past few months, whatever you found was either out of your price range, the pictures didn’t do the house or apartment justice, or the place was too far away from the shop. And if it was too far away from the shop, then it was much too far away from Aimee, Sukuna, and Tamsy.
“Oh, there’s no way this is the adulthood I couldn’t wait for,” you muttered to yourself as you reached over to your laptop, closing the webpage before shutting the device completely. “Because if it is, this is a scam.”
You leaned back against your desk chair once more, staring up at the ceiling as you used your foot to move yourself side to side slightly. At this point—and because you knew your sister would agree with you—you were so close to finding a way to stop time and keep Aimee small forever.
There was no way you were going to allow all this dysfunction to be anywhere near her.
Then again, if you were able to find that way of stopping time, maybe you could also reverse it—so you could fix every messed-up thing that had happened to you that had led you to this point in your life. Or, honestly, you would just reverse time to the moment when you could have left your ex-husband sooner… so you could still have your baby with you.
Your thoughts were interrupted when a tiny knock sounded on your closed door.
You looked sideways at it. “Come in,” you called to whoever it was, turning fully to face the door as it started opening.
When the door opened fully, Aimee was standing there, one little hand still holding the doorknob.
You smiled at your niece, because seeing her always brightened your day. But at the moment, she looked like a cute little banana dressed in all yellow. And you meant all yellow.
Her little T-shirt, skirt, tights, and even her shoes were yellow. The only thing that wasn’t yellow were her white shoelaces. The color made her salmon-pink hair pop a bit more than it usually did.
“Hey, my sweet love,” you greeted her, leaning forward and resting your elbows on your knees, your hands dangling between them. “Don’t you look like a ray of sunshine.”
“Daddy said I look like an oversized banana,” Aimee said as she walked further into your room, closing the door behind her. She leaned against it, her arms behind her back as she tilted her head. “I told him my costume wasn’t finished yet.”
She pouted and looked at you with those crimson eyes she inherited from her father.
“I don’t look like a banana, do I, Obasan?”
You smiled at her. “No, you do not look like an oversized banana,” you told her.
Really, she did. But you weren’t going to tell her that and make her feel a certain way about her costume. And you definitely refused to give your brother-in-law the satisfaction of knowing you agreed with him about anything.
You got up from your chair and made your way over to her. Leaning forward, you placed your hands on your knees so you were eye level with her.
“And even if you did look like an oversized banana,” you continued, “your daddy is just jealous because you’re way cuter than he would be.”
Aimee giggled. “But I look just like Daddy, Obasan.”
You reached over and poked her nose. “And you’re the much cuter version of him. Always.”
Aimee giggled again before stepping forward and wrapping her arms around your waist. You wrapped your arms around her little shoulders and kept her close.
She looked up at you, resting her chin against your stomach as she stared at you with her beautiful crimson eyes. You looked back down at her, playfully raising an eyebrow. You could see a small twitch at the corner of Aimee’s mouth.
You knew from experience that she wanted something.
“Aimee?”
“Yes, Obasan?”
“Is there something you want to ask me?”
Aimee giggled before hiding her face in your stomach. The action made you laugh, and you rubbed gently between her shoulder blades. After a moment, Aimee looked back up at you, her sweet smile still on her face.
“Could you take me to my Halloween festival tonight?” Aimee finally asked, her smile still big and hopeful.
The school Aimee attended was having a small festival in the gymnasium tonight.
There would be games for the kids to play where they could win prizes, a contest to pick the best decorated pumpkin, and food and drinks set up in the cafeteria. Some of the older students had also decided to pitch in and do their own version of a haunted house, turning it into a haunted tunnel—a small setup that stretched from one of the locker rooms toward the outside.
There was also going to be a costume contest held in the auditorium.
And Aimee and one of her little friends from school just happened to be candidates in the Buddy Category.
“You want me to take you?” you asked Aimee, the smile still on your face. One of your hands had moved to her hair, your fingers running gently through her pink strands.
Aimee nodded. “Sure you don’t want your mama or daddy to take you?”
“I already asked her that.”
You looked away from Aimee just in time to see your bedroom door open, your sister now standing there. You were a little shocked you hadn’t heard it open to begin with. Then again, whenever Aimee was around, your focus was usually solely on her.
Tamsy had her arms crossed over her chest, leaning against the doorframe with her shoulder, a smile on her face as she stared at you and her daughter.
“She wants her Obasan to take her tonight,” Tamsy said as she pushed off the doorframe and walked into your room.
Aimee still had her arms wrapped around your waist, but she was looking at her mother over her shoulder.
“I told her you might be tired after work,” Tamsy continued, “but she wanted to at least ask you.”
You looked at your sister, raising an eyebrow and tilting your head. “I have no problem taking her tonight,” you said, and Aimee let out a little celebratory sound as she hugged you tighter. You continued running your fingers through her hair.
“But are you sure this was Aimee’s idea alone?”
Tamsy rolled her eyes. “Yes,” she answered, gesturing toward her daughter. “I told her about all the fun we used to have back when we were younger at these little festivals, and she was sold. She wanted her Obasan to take her because you’re apparently cooler than her mother and father.”
You continued to look at your sister. You gave her the best impression of the same face your mother had given the both of you your whole lives—letting Tamsy know she wasn’t the only one who could wield it at any given moment.
The two of you stared at one another for a few moments. You gave your sister a skeptical look while Tamsy tried to keep her calm, carefree demeanor.
Finally, Tamsy sighed and dropped her folded arms, placing her hands on her hips.
“Fine,” she relented, walking over to sit on the edge of your bed. “Aimee does want you to take her tonight—that wasn’t a lie. But Ryo and I would also appreciate it if you could take her for the night.”
A playful smirk pulled at your lips. “Oh, you would, huh?” you taunted.
Tamsy rolled her eyes again. “Yes, Y/N, we would. Don’t make it weird.”
“Oh, don’t worry. Never in my life would I ever plan on doing that, Tams.”
“I highly doubt that.”
Tamsy got up from where she sat on your bed and walked over to you and Aimee. She leaned down and kissed the top of her daughter’s head.
“Have fun and listen to your Obasan,” she told her.
Aimee looked at her mother, still smiling, and nodded her head. “I will, Mama,” she said. “I promise.”
Tamsy leaned over and kissed your cheek, making an obnoxious smooching noise that caused Aimee to laugh and you to groan as you pushed her lightly away.
“You have fun, too,” Tamsy told you, patting your back. “And thank you for taking her. I appreciate it, baby sis—and I know Ryo does, too.”
You hummed. “Oh, I’m sure Ryo does,” you said with an eye roll of your own.
Tamsy stuck her tongue out at you before turning around and walking out of your room with a laugh. She closed the door behind her, leaving you and Aimee alone in the middle of your room once again.
You shook your head with a sigh, a fond look now on your face, and glanced down at your niece.
“Okay, my love,” you said as you gently unwrapped her arms from around your waist, taking one of her small hands in yours. “Let’s finish getting you ready, yeah?”
“Yeah!” Aimee said cheerfully as she let you lead the two of you toward the adjoining bathroom in your room.
You’d help Aimee finish getting her costume ready, and then you’d freshen yourself up a bit.
******
Toji never wanted children.
He knows how harsh that sounds—but it’s the truth. He never wanted them.
And it was never because he despised kids. If anything, it was the opposite. He was great with them.
Toji just never wanted to risk the chance of becoming a father like his was.
Tomoki was an abusive, misogynistic, piss-poor excuse of a father—if you could even call him one.
He was hardly around, and when he was, he made everything a living nightmare. He smacked his mother around, and when that didn’t satisfy him, he went after Toji. His constant favoritism toward Jinichi—simply because he was the oldest—also caused a rift between the two brothers.
Tomoki ruled their house with an iron fist and a heavy hand. He always had a scowl on his face, like everything in the world displeased him.
And truthfully, Toji believed that for the longest time.
His father brought nothing but misery to his children and wife—so much so that Toji’s mother eventually left and never came back.
She could no longer take the abuse from her husband or the rest of the Zenin family.
So she left.
Late in the middle of the night.
And she never returned, leaving her two sons to grow up in that hellhole.
Toji was ten then.
Honestly, Toji was glad that growing up, the Kongs and Itadoris had been like a second home to him. He could always escape when things at home got too bad.
Especially nights like the one when Tomoki broke a glass bottle across young Toji’s face, leaving the scar at the corner of his mouth.
Any higher, and it could have been his eye. Good thing his father had terrible aim when drunk.
Toji remembered that Jinichi had gotten between him and their father that night, telling him to get to either Shiu’s or Ryomen’s house as he held their irate father back.
Toji fled to the Itadori household.
He remembered how frantic Mama Itadori had been, trying to stop the bleeding, and how poor Jin had to hold back not just Sukuna but Wasuke.
Wasuke Itadori had never needed a reason to want to go after Tomoki, but a twelve-year-old Toji barreling through their front door—bruised and with a bloody lip—had been the final straw.
Toji stayed at the Itadoris’ house for almost two weeks after that. Until his father came to collect him.
And if he had to be honest, Toji Fushiguro also never wanted to get married. Another messed-up thing he had his father to thank for.
He didn’t share the same view on women that his father and half the men in his family did. Toji believed women were equal to men—if not more capable than them. But all he ever saw growing up was how his father treated his mother.
Even though he knew what his father had done to his mother wasn’t right, there was still a fear buried deep inside him that he could end up just like him. Hurting someone and making his wife miserable was one thing Toji never wanted to do.
So he carried that mindset for years—that he didn’t want to get married, and he definitely didn’t want children.
He held onto those thoughts until he met Kyouka.
And everything changed for the better with her.
Toji knew the first time he met Kyouka that she was it for him.
He knew it from the moment he saw that dazzling smile and the way her eyes sparkled. He knew it from how her laugh sounded like music to him—the one sound he wanted to hear for the rest of his life.
And he knew Kyouka was it for him the first time he held her in his arms. When her arms wrapped around his waist or around his neck, he never wanted to let her go. She just felt right pressed against him.
Like she was the missing puzzle piece he had been searching for all along.
And because of that, he conquered his fear of marriage and married Kyouka.
His father and the rest of his family were against it—all except Jinichi, who did seem happy for his little brother—and they tried their best to get Toji to change his mind.
They did not believe Kyouka was a good fit for him and claimed she would not make a proper wife for him. They didn’t like how outgoing and outspoken she was—something Toji loved about her—and they made their disdain known every single time she was around.
That was the last straw in the miserable years Toji had spent living in that hell.
Kyouka was his one true light after his horrible upbringing, and he refused to allow anyone to disrespect her or diminish her simply because she was a woman.
So the day they got married, instead of Kyouka taking the last name Zenin, Toji took her last name—Fushiguro instead. Ending the last remaining ties he had to the family he was born into.
There were days when Toji didn’t believe he was a great husband. Before Shiu opened the auto body shop, Toji went from job to job, always trying to scrounge up whatever money he could to support himself and Kyouka.
But even on those bad days—when they sometimes had to share a single takeout plate or divide what little food they had between them—Kyouka always greeted him with a smile and asked how his day had been.
Kyouka was always his motivation to keep going and do better.
But there was always something missing.
Toji knew Kyouka wanted to have children.
She knew how he had been brought up and how her husband feared becoming like his father. So even though she wanted a child, she never pushed Toji into something he wasn’t ready for.
Toji loved her for that—but he also hated himself for it.
Here Kyouka was sacrificing something she desperately wanted, all for his sake. Because Toji could never shake the fear of ruining his child’s life in the same way his father had ruined his.
Toji knew he was not Tomoki. He knew he would never be like the man he saw in the mirror every single day.
But he just could not get over the fear of what if he did become his father.
He had lived in hell, and he could not allow another child to go through that—especially one he helped bring into the world.
Though he could not deny the feeling he got one weekend while at Shiu and Shoko’s house. A few weeks after Shoko had given birth to their daughter, Mei, he had seen his wife smiling as she rocked the newborn in her arms.
And the sight did something to him.
Toji could feel the urge to see that same smile and those maternal instincts on Kyouka’s face—but instead of it being with their friend’s baby, he wanted to see her doing it with their child.
He wanted to see his wife grow round as their baby grew inside her, wanting to be even more amazed by her than he already was. He wanted to see how motherhood would make her even more beautiful to him.
Even though Kyouka never really needed to do anything for that.
She was always going to be the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on.
And so, after that night at Shiu and Shoko’s house to see baby Mei, Toji put his fear aside, and he and Kyouka began trying for their own child.
The trying was the fun part, and Toji loved nothing more than pleasing his wife. Her pleasure was always his first priority. During those months of trying—and with the business at the shop doing well—Toji and Kyouka were able to buy a house of their own, moving out of the tiny apartment that had served as their first home during the newlywed stage of their marriage.
There hadn’t been a single surface or space in their new house that they hadn’t christened in their attempt to become parents.
And on the twenty-second of December, three days before Christmas, after eighteen hours of labor, Toji and Kyouka finally got to meet their baby boy.
Their sweet blessing.
Their little Megumi.
The minute Megumi was placed in his father’s arms, lying against his bare chest, Toji knew he would do anything for him. He would tear the world apart with his bare hands if he had to.
He was still scared of becoming like his father—that would never change. Toji never wanted to do anything that would cause Megumi or Kyouka the same misery his father had caused him. But with the help of his loving wife and the supportive friends waiting in the hospital’s waiting room, Toji knew he could be better.
And he was going to be better than that bastard of a father.
Megumi would never have to worry about living in fear every single day. Toji would never make it so his son had to wonder if he would get hit or end up on the receiving end of his father’s anger. He would also never make it so Kyouka had to fear his voice being raised or his words becoming cruel. Nor would she ever have to worry about him putting his hands on her—at least not in a way meant to hurt her.
Kyouka loved feeling his hands on her.
Just like he loved feeling her hands on him.
And it was thanks to Kyouka—always encouraging him and reminding him he was nothing like Tomoki, always telling him what a great father and husband he was—that Toji slowly began to believe it.
Their little family was the best thing that had ever happened to him.
And they were happy.
Truly.
And then Kyouka was diagnosed with cancer when Megumi was only two years old.
Toji lost himself for a while after that.
Out of everyone in the world cancer could have chosen, it had to pick his wife.
His Kyouka.
Toji knew he could not lose himself completely. Kyouka needed him, and Megumi needed him.
With some help from Kyouka’s parents, they were able to afford chemotherapy and the other medicines she would need to fight the disease.
And for years it became a cycle—chemotherapy, remission, and the cancer always coming back stronger than before.
Toji had to watch his wife lose her hair, become severely sick from her treatments, and go through periods of depression and anger that made her feel unlike the Kyouka he loved. She felt like a failure of a mother because she was sick more often than she was able to care for her own son.
And he was there for her through it all.
He was there through every chemotherapy session, every round of radiation, every medication, and every dark day.
Toji constantly reminded her how she was an amazing mother, how Megumi loved her dearly, and how she was the strongest woman he had ever known because of how fiercely she was fighting for their boy.
Kyouka did not want Megumi to lose his mother while he was still young.
And she fought.
She kept getting sicker and weaker over time—but she fought.
Kyouka fought for herself. She fought for Toji. And most importantly, she fought for her baby boy.
She fought until her body had no more fight left.
Megumi had been six when his mother died—at home, surrounded by friends and family. That had been a year ago.
And even now, Toji sometimes found it hard to make himself get out of bed in the mornings. Sometimes it was hard to wake up at all after dreaming about Kyouka.
But he knew he had to.
Because even though Kyouka was gone, he still had Megumi. And his son did not deserve to lose both parents.
The time after Kyouka’s passing had been an adjustment for both him and Megumi—it was only natural. But father and son managed as best as they could as they learned to navigate this new way of life with a missing piece where Kyouka had once been.
Sometimes, in his sleep, Megumi dreamed about his mother.
Toji knew because he would hear him whisper a soft mama in his sleep.
It both warmed and broke Toji’s heart.
Megumi loved his mother so much. And while her death had devastated Toji, he knew it had shattered his son.
Even if Megumi hardly showed it. Toji just knew.
Another way Toji was reminded of this new part of their life was through the dreaded calls from Kaede, Kyouka’s mother. Sometimes her father, Osamu, would call as well.
Toji tried his best to remain cordial with both of them. The love his wife had for her parents—and the love Megumi had for them—was the main reason Toji never lost his patience with his former in-laws.
And the call from Kaede had started no differently.
Truthfully, it had begun peacefully enough. She had simply called to check on him and Megumi after the two of them had gotten home from work and school. Toji had even thought it might end up being a decent conversation. Sometimes the two of them could manage that—being adults and not turning everything into passive-aggressive remarks.
But Toji had thought wrong.
It took only a second for Kaede to hear him take a swig of his beer before she started complaining about how he shouldn’t be drinking around Megumi. She even went as far as to say that Kyouka would have hated him having even an ounce of alcohol in their house.
Toji had to roll his eyes at that.
Kaede and Osamu had a terrible habit of believing Kyouka had been some perfect angel who could do no wrong—the example every child should strive to be.
Little did they know their perfect and precious angel had horns.
Kyouka had always been her true self around Toji and their friends. She never had to pretend to be what her parents expected her to be.
And Toji knew if Kyouka were still alive, she would be sitting beside him at the kitchen table, nursing a drink of her own. Of course, beer would not be her drink of choice. Kyouka preferred a good, red wine. And she could knock a few glasses back faster than Toji could finish one bottle if he did not stop her.
Kyouka loved overly sweet food and greasy food. She was a fend at baseball games–always getting a hotdog or nachos. And of course, the peanuts and popcorn. But they always managed to make her happy. Plus, Toji was never one to turn down a good stadium hotdog himself.
Toji knew Kaede would have a stroke if she ever found that out about her perfect daughter. But it was one thing Toji always promised his wife he would never reveal.
Kyouka just wanted her parents to just have that image of her as their sweet angel. Even if she had to fib a bit whenever she was around them.
Toji knew it was only because Kyouka had been their only child. Kaede had been forced to have a hysterectomy after giving birth to her through an emergency C-section. Because of that, she and Osamu had always been overly protective of their daughter.
They had constantly placed pressure on her to be perfect—always claiming it was because they believed she was destined for greatness.
And they had always resented that Toji was the man Kyouka chose to spend the rest of her life with, and the man she chose to start a family with. Even if they loved their grandson just as much as they had loved their daughter.
As the conversation continued, Toji found himself fighting the urge to just hang up on her in the middle of her rant. But he knew that if he did that—and kept screening her calls—she would just get Osamu to call him over and over again. And the two of them would keep trying until he eventually answered one of them.
The urge to hang up on her was almost as strong as the urge to finally lose the patience he was struggling to hold on to.
There were small indentations beside the bridge of his nose where his nails had dug into his skin as he pinched it, trying to power through the phone call.
Another reason he was forcing himself through it was because he knew that once it was over, he could relax for a while, finish the rest of his beer, help Megumi with his homework, and then get his son ready for the Halloween festival his school was hosting tonight.
“Kaede, I’m not trying to cut our call short,” Toji said, cutting his former mother-in-law off in the middle of whatever rant she had started on her side of the line. He could hear the huff she let out because he had interrupted her. “But I still have to help Megs finish his homework and then get him ready for his school’s Halloween event tonight. So what was the main reason you decided to call?”
Kaede huffed again on the other end of the phone. Toji could practically feel the eye roll he knew she had just done. He half expected her to argue about him cutting her off—like she usually did—but he was surprised when all she did instead was sigh.
“I was calling to ask about Thanksgiving this year,” Kaede answered.
Toji slouched back in the kitchen chair he was sitting in, his head tilting back as he stared up at the ceiling.
“I just wanted to know if you and Megumi were coming here,” she continued. “Or if Osamu and I would be coming to your house?”
Toji leaned forward in his chair, resting his elbows on the kitchen table. One hand still held his phone to his ear while he rested his chin in the palm of the other.
“I’m not really sure,” he answered. “I kind of haven’t thought about it.”
Kaede scoffed. “And why not?”
Toji’s eyes narrowed slightly before he closed them for a moment and opened them again. All he had to do was make it through the rest of this conversation.
“I just haven’t,” Toji replied with a small shrug, reaching over to grab his beer bottle. He didn’t actually want to take another sip. He just needed something to hold onto.
Hopefully, if he focused on holding the bottle—and not breaking it—neither his sanity nor his patience would break either.
“It’s been pretty busy this month,” he continued. “And it slipped my mind.”
“You work at an auto body shop, Toji. I highly doubt it could be that tedious enough to make you forget something like Thanksgiving.”
Toji hummed. “Seeing as how you’ve never worked in an auto body shop, I highly doubt you would know.”
Should he have said that? Possibly not.
Was he going to backtrack and try to find a way to avoid offending the older woman?
Absolutely not.
Still, Toji knew that if he didn’t do something, this conversation would drag on forever. Kaede would either try to start an argument or launch into another rant.
And Toji had no more patience for that.
“Look, Kaede,” Toji said, once again cutting off whatever his former mother-in-law was about to say about his snide remark.
Toji couldn’t help but feel a little proud of himself. He knew it got under her skin, and he enjoyed the small bit of defiance he could squeeze out toward her.
“Give me until this Sunday,” Toji continued. He took another drink of his beer before wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “And I’ll let you know what we’re doing, okay? Right now I still have to help Gumi with his homework and get him ready for his festival. Does that sound good?”
Toji knew it didn’t sound good to her. But he was pleasantly surprised when all she did was sigh instead of trying to argue.
“Alright, Toji, that sounds fine,” Kaede said with a sigh. He could hear some shuffling on her side of the phone. She probably had him on speaker so she could move around freely.
“Just call me back and we’ll talk then. Tell Megumi that his grandma and grandpa love him, and we hope he has fun tonight and on Saturday when he goes trick-or-treating as well.”
“I’ll let him know,” Toji said. “Talk then.”
Toji ended the call and placed his phone down on the kitchen table. He let go of his now empty beer bottle and ran his hands down his face, a groan leaving his throat.
“Are you okay, Dad?”
Toji turned his head at the sound of his son’s voice.
Megumi was standing in the doorway of the kitchen, looking at him with an expression that was both curious and concerned. The way he tilted his head reminded Toji of Kyouka, and it made him smile.
“Yeah, your old man’s just fine,” Toji answered as he pushed his chair away from the table and turned toward the boy. “Just got off the phone with your grandma. She and your gramps say hey, and they love you.”
Megumi smiled. “I love them too,” he said as he walked over to his father.
Toji picked him up under his arms and set him down in his lap. Megumi leaned back against him.
“Are we going to see them soon?” he asked. The kid loved his grandparents.
“That’s what your grandma called about,” Toji told him. “She wanted to know how we were going to do Thanksgiving this year. Told her I’d call her back sometime Sunday and give her an answer.”
“Okay,” Megumi said with a smile, nodding his head.
The two of them sat in peaceful silence for a while—just a father and son sitting together.
Toji loved moments like this, when it was just him and Megumi. Especially when Megumi wanted to be held or simply sit quietly with his father.
Sure, Toji would never go a day without wishing Kyouka were still there to share the quiet moments with them. But he was grateful that Megumi still acted like he needed him most days.
Toji rested his chin on top of his son’s head, the spiky strands tickling his nose. He didn’t mind.
“So,” Toji said after a few more minutes of silence.
Megumi looked up at him from where he still sat in his lap.
“Are you going to tell me which friend you’re dressing up with tonight?”
Megumi had come home a week ago saying he and a friend from school had decided to enter the costume contest that would be held during the Halloween festival. That had taken Toji by surprise.
Megumi hated being in the spotlight. Hated when eyes were on him and he was the center of attention. He even disliked crowded places, though he still enjoyed going if there were fun activities. Sometimes he still hid behind his father’s leg when meeting new people or when he got overwhelmed.
Still, Toji was happy about it.
It meant Megumi was trying to step outside of his comfort zone and do something with a friend.
Toji just wondered which friend it was.
Part of him hoped it was that Inumaki kid Megumi always hung out with rather than the Todo one. Not that there was anything wrong with Aoi. Toji liked the kid.
Toge was a laid-back, quiet kid—much like Megumi.
But Aoi… was not.
He was a bit much. Loud, energetic, and always talking about a celebrity crush a little too often. Still, Toji could see why Megumi was friends with him.
Aoi was a good kid and always looked out for Megumi and his other friends.
“No,” Megumi muttered, looking away. But Toji could see his cheeks turning a light shade of red as he blushed. “You’ll see when we get to school tonight.”
Toji chuckled. “Can’t give me just one hint, huh?”
Megumi shook his head, a pout forming on his face as he kept his gaze averted from his father.
“Okay, I’ll stop asking,” Toji said as he lifted Megumi up from his lap and set him back down so his feet were on the floor. “Let’s finish your homework and get you a bath. Then I’ll help you get your costume on, kid. Sound like a plan?”
Megumi nodded. “Yeah.”
The boy grabbed his father’s hand, and the two of them left the kitchen. They walked through the living room and toward the stairs, heading up to Megumi’s room to get their evening started.
******
The gymnasium was alive with children running around laughing. Some were dressed in costumes while others were not, all moving from game to game. Parents stood off to the side talking, while some stayed close to their children, making sure they didn’t go overboard or cut in line at the games.
On the two sets of bleachers sat rows of pumpkins. Megumi had mentioned in passing that the art teacher had the students decorate them for the festival so people could vote for their favorites. Toji made sure to drop a piece of paper into the jar beside the one Megumi had decorated as they entered the gym.
One of his hands held Megumi’s while the other carried the red-and-white baseball cap that refused to stay on the boy’s head. Toji had told his son they would put the cap back on before it was his and his friend’s turn in the costume contest. Megumi had made him promise to put it back on because he couldn’t be Ash Ketchum without it.
Along with telling Toji a week ago that he had decided to enter the costume contest with a friend, Megumi had also explained that they planned to wear Pokémon-themed costumes. Megumi had chosen to be the main character of the show, Ash, while his friend had decided to be Pikachu—the little electric mouse who traveled with Ash throughout the series.
Toji had searched high and low for the costume and had been relieved when he finally found the last Ash Ketchum costume in Megumi’s size the previous Sunday.
If Megumi decided to do this again next year, Toji had asked that he let him know sooner. He wanted to make sure his son could go as whatever he wanted.
And another part of Toji definitely didn’t want to be part of the crowd of parents scrambling for Halloween costumes at the last minute.
From what Toji had read on the little flyer Megumi had brought home, the contest would start around nine that evening. And if they got hungry at any point, there would be food and drinks available in the cafeteria.
As Toji and Megumi walked further into the gym, he kept his eyes out for a child dressed as a yellow mouse. At first glance, he didn’t see anything.
On his next sweep of the room, he thought a kid standing near the bowling game might be the friend in question. But after a closer look, it turned out the kid was… cheese?
Toji blinked a few times at the costume choice before continuing to scan the room, hoping to find Megumi’s partner.
“Megumi!”
Both Toji and Megumi turned at the high-pitched, feminine voice calling out to the young boy.
Like a blur of yellow making her way through the crowd of parents and children, a girl with salmon-pink hair ran toward them. She was dressed entirely in yellow, and on her head sat a yellow headband with mouse ears attached, the tips of them painted black.
As she got closer, Toji could see the red circles painted on her cheeks to match the Pokémon she was dressed as. The tip of her nose had been painted black, and attached to the back of her yellow skirt was a zig-zag tail.
The girl stopped in front of them, a wide smile on her face, her crimson eyes just as bright and wide as that smile.
Toji knew those crimson eyes anywhere, along with the salmon-pink hair.
Mainly because he had to deal with a much taller and far grumpier version of the little girl standing in front of him and Megumi.
It was Aimee Itadori—Tamsy and Ryomen’s daughter.
And apparently, she was the mysterious friend Megumi had decided to enter the costume contest with.
Aimee gave a small wave to Megumi. “Hi, Megumi!” she greeted happily.
Then she looked up at Toji, her smile still bright.
She waved at him. “Hi, Mr. Megumi’s Daddy!” she said just as cheerfully.
Toji smiled and chuckled. “Hey there, little Ryo,” he greeted her.
“Hey, Aimee,” Megumi replied softly, waving back with his free hand. He smiled at his friend. “You make a great Pikachu.”
Aimee giggled. “Pika-Pika!” she said, placing one hand on her tiny hip before pointing to one of her cheeks with a finger.
Toji had to admit it was a cute gesture.
“That means thank you,” Aimee added a moment later, apparently believing it was a proper translation. “You make a really good Ash too, Gumi. Your hair’s almost like his, so it’s perfect!”
“Thanks, Aimee,” Megumi said bashfully. With his free hand, he grabbed a lock of his spiky black hair and twisted it between his fingers, a blush forming on his cheeks as he smiled.
Toji couldn’t help but smile at the children interacting with each other.
“Aimee!”
Toji turned his head at the very familiar voice calling out to the young girl. He and the two children looked past Aimee to see you making your way through the crowd of parents and kids.
You were wearing a pair of black leggings tucked into combat boots, along with a black shirt with a band logo on the front underneath a leather jacket. On top of your head sat a red beanie. And you had makeup on.
Toji was used to seeing you with a little bit of blush to liven up your cheeks and some mascara.
But it was a pleasant surprise to see you with false lashes, your eye makeup done heavier in a smoky style, and your lips painted red.
It was definitely pleasant to look at.
But it was still a surprise all the same.
“Obasan!” Aimee greeted excitedly.
She waved you over with one hand while pointing toward Toji and Megumi with the other. “Look, it’s Megumi and his daddy!”
Toji heard you chuckle.
“I can see that, sweet girl,” you said as you made your way over.
When you reached Aimee, you placed a hand on her shoulder and pulled her into your side, causing her to giggle.
You looked over at Megumi. “Hey, Megumi,” you greeted him softly.
Megumi shifted slightly behind Toji’s leg, half hiding while still standing where you could see him.
He gave you a small wave. “Hi,” he replied, his voice quiet and soft.
Then you turned your attention to Toji. “Hey, ’ji,” you greeted.
Toji nodded at you, a smile on his face. “Hey there, Pip,” he greeted you back. He nodded toward Aimee. “Are you on babysitting duty, or are Tams and Ryo here too?”
“Nope,” you answered. “Just me and Aimee for this evening, at the request of this cute little Pikachu.”
As you said that, you tickled Aimee where her neck met her shoulder. The action made the little girl giggle as she squirmed and moved slightly away from you.
Aimee looked around for a few minutes until one of the games caught her attention.
Standing near the farthest wall of the gym was a cardboard panel decorated to look like lake water, with papier-mâché fish glued onto it. A few bubbles had been drawn near and around the fish.
A teacher stood beside the display, dressed like a fisherman. She greeted the children who came to the game and handed them two fishing rods at a time.
“A fishing game!” Aimee exclaimed.
She stepped forward and took Megumi’s free hand in hers. “Let’s go play that game together, Megumi.”
Megumi stared at her and blinked a few times. His eyes dropped to their joined hands before he looked up at Toji.
Toji looked down at him with a small smile.
“Go on, bud,” Toji told him as he released his son’s hand. He nodded toward the game. “You and Aimee go have fun. I’ll be right here.”
Megumi nodded before looking at Aimee. “Okay, let’s go,” he said softly.
Aimee kept hold of Megumi’s hand as she led the two of them toward the fishing game, leaving you and Toji standing in the middle of the gym.
“I’m assuming Megumi kept his contest partner a secret, huh?” you asked, crossing your arms over your chest.
Toji slid his free hand into the pocket of his jeans. “Big time,” he answered. “So, I’m assuming Tamsy and Ryo put you up to taking your niece out tonight?”
“Honestly, half of it was Aimee wanting me to bring her tonight.”
“And the other half?”
“Tamsy and Ryo wanted me to take her so they could have some uninterrupted alone time.”
Toji let out a laugh. “Sounds about right for those two,” he said. “It seems a little dangerous to leave them alone though, don’t you think? Leave them alone long enough and you might be expecting to be an aunt again in the next month or two.”
You shrugged, your eyes still on the two children waiting patiently for their turn at the fishing game.
“As long as I don’t have to see or hear it, or know it’s happening, I don’t care what those two do while I’m not there,” you said. “If I get another niece—or a nephew this time—out of it, that’ll be great. I’m all up for it. There’s just so much one person can hear their sister getting–” You did a quick look around to make sure no parents, teachers, or children were in earshot of you “–fucked by their brother-in-law into their mattress, the floor, and against a wall before they start going crazy. I’ve almost stabbed some of Aimee’s colored pencils in my ears a few times.”
Toji hummed. He was trying so hard not to laugh.
He wasn’t sure if you would have appreciated feeling like he was laughing at you and your circumstances.
After the several conversations the two of you had shared at work, he had learned about your unfortunate circumstance of hearing your brother-in-law pounding your sister into their mattress on multiple occasions.
You apparently still hadn’t told either Tamsy or Sukuna about that.
And from the way you described it to Toji, you might never tell them.
Although, after you just gave a quick run down on just how Sukuna pounds Tamsy, he didn’t blame you. He did wonder how you knew they fucked against the wall and on the floor.
Toji suddenly wondered just how thin the walls in that house were. He just knew better than to actually ask that.
Possibly one day.
And it would definitely be a day he decided to bring it up to Sukuna and mess with him about it. But for now, he was going to put a pin in it.
You had mentioned that you were trying to find either a house or an apartment. Once you moved out, it wouldn’t matter anyway. Aimee slept like the dead and hardly ever woke up during the night like you did, so once you were gone, Tamsy and Ryo could be as loud as they wanted without realizing someone could hear them.
“How’s the house and apartment hunting going?” Toji asked, genuinely wanting to know.
He saw your smile fall into a frown as a sigh slipped past your lips and your shoulders slumped. Toji’s own smile faded a little when he saw yours disappear.
“That bad, huh?”
“You have no idea,” you answered. “A listing is either way too far away from the shop, out of my price range, or the pictures don’t match the price they want you to pay for the house or rent the apartment.”
“Yeah,” Toji replied with a sigh. “Kyouka and I ran into that same issue when we first moved in together—and that was before we got married.”
He watched along with you as it became Aimee and Megumi’s turn at the fishing game.
“I think we looked for months,” he continued. “Trying to find at least a decently priced house—or if we had to bite the bullet, at least one that didn’t cost an arm and a leg and wasn’t halfway falling apart.”
You glanced over at him. “And how did the search go for you?”
“Well, we lived in this shitty one-bedroom apartment for about a year before we got married, and I think two more years after we did.” He looked back at you. “That was before Shiu opened the auto shop though. After that—and after saving up a few paychecks, and unfortunately getting some help from Kyouka’s parents—we managed to find a house.”
“The one you live in now?”
Toji nodded. “You got it.”
“Hopefully I can find a place soon,” you said.
The two of you continued watching Aimee and Megumi at the fishing game.
The teacher dressed as the fisherman helped both children lower their rods so the hooks could slip behind the cardboard panel. If you remembered correctly, there was someone—maybe an older student, another teacher, or even a parent volunteer—standing behind the panel to attach a prize to the hook.
For the sake of theatrics, they made it seem to the children like they had actually caught a fish and had to reel it in before it got away.
You could see the big smile on Aimee’s face as she excitedly talked to Megumi while their rods jerked slightly, the “fish” supposedly taking the bait.
“Truthfully, I’m going to miss living with them though,” you admitted to Toji.
You could feel him looking at you.
“I’ve gotten so used to seeing Aimee’s little face these past few months. And honestly, getting to see both Ryomen and Tamsy every day has been nice. But I know I need to find my own place and start paying them back for everything they’ve done for me.”
From the conversations the two of you had shared, Toji knew how desperately you wanted to pay your sister and Sukuna back for everything they had done for you so far. But from what Sukuna had told him, neither he nor Tamsy wanted you to pay them back.
They were simply glad you were in a safer environment and doing well enough for yourself.
And even though the hulking mass that was Ryomen Itadori would never actually voice it, Toji knew your brother-in-law liked knowing you were safe and that he and Tamsy were there if you ever needed them.
You still weren’t aware that Sukuna had told Toji everything about what had happened with your ex-husband and your son.
And Toji also knew you weren’t aware of another thing he had done. But he had a feeling you wouldn’t have minded it as much.
But Sukuna telling him about your ex and what happened to your son?
Yeah, Toji knew you would have minded that.
So he made a silent agreement with himself to never mention that he knew anything—at least not until you decided to open up more on your own.
Whenever that might be, Toji couldn’t be sure. But he would be there, waiting with listening ears for the day you decided to share more with him.
The two of you stayed where you were, easing into simple, easy conversation—much like the way you talked during downtime at the shop. You discussed a little bit of everything while also somehow talking about nothing at all.
During those few minutes of conversation, Aimee and Megumi had moved on from the fishing game to several others scattered around the gymnasium. They had already collected a handful of little trinkets and goodie bags from them.
You glanced down at the goodie bags—four in total—that you held in your hand and let out a small laugh.
Toji turned to look at you, goodie bags hanging from his own hand as well. At some point he had placed Megumi’s baseball cap on his head.
It looked ridiculous.
Such a tiny hat sitting on a grown man’s head. But he had claimed it was an easier way to keep track of Megumi’s prizes and avoid losing the cap.
Still, you had to admit…
It might have looked completely ridiculous, but it also looked… cute.
“What’s so funny, Pip?” Toji asked, a small smile on his face as he tilted his head, curious about what you found so amusing about a bunch of goodie bags.
“It’s nothing,” you replied with a laugh.
You turned toward him and lifted the bags in your hand, giving them a light shake.
“I’m just thinking about how hyped up they’re going to be tonight. And don’t forget—Halloween is tomorrow.”
Toji laughed and glanced down at the goodie bags he was holding.
“Yeah, you’ve got a point,” he said. “Pretty sure the teachers did this on purpose. Holding this festival on a Friday evening with Halloween falling on a Saturday.”
“The kids don’t have to go back to school until Wednesday because of teacher work days next week,” you added. “They probably did plan it this way. They dealt with the kids all week, and now they load them up with sugar when it’ll be the parents dealing with the sugar rush from tonight and Halloween.”
“Yeah.” Toji nodded as he watched Megumi and Aimee head toward another game. “And by the time Wednesday rolls around, the sugar should be out of their systems.”
He gave a small huff of amusement.
“We’re the ones who have to deal with them being candy gremlins all weekend.”
You bumped your shoulder lightly against his.
Toji looked over at you again as you jerked your thumb toward the two partners in candy crimes.
“How about we try to wrangle them and see if we can get some food in them,” you said with a smile. “I don’t know if you’re hungry or not, but I figured getting some actual food in them is better than letting them scarf down candy the whole time we’re here. Plus, we’ll be closer to the auditorium. That way when we’re done eating, it should be about time for the costume contest.”
Toji nodded. “I’m never going to turn down food,” he said.
You snorted. “Yeah, I noticed.”
Toji bumped his shoulder with yours. “Hey, you can’t beat some good food. Especially when you don’t have to make it yourself.”
The two of you started walking toward Aimee and Megumi.
“But you’re right about trying to get them to eat something. Better to get real food in them and be closer to the auditorium before this contest stuff starts. Really don’t feel like fighting the crowd.”
Toji heard you snort with laughter.
“Oh, you read my mind,” you said, clearly agreeing with him. “The last thing I want is to get trampled by a whole crowd of people trying to get good seats to see their kids.”
You glanced over at him.
“I’m starting to see why my parents and Tamsy’s used to camp out early and get what they called the good seats for our events and games,” you told him. “That way they didn’t have to fight anyone for a good spot.”
Toji only chuckled.
The two of you made your way over to the two overly excited kids, both of you hoping you could pull them away from the games long enough to get them to eat something—and get them ready before the costume contest began.
I know I said I was going to have this done by the weekend, but this new job I am at is kicking my butt seven ways to Sunday, so my editing and posting got pushed back just a tad.
And I'm going to be honest, I am not too happy with this update, but I tried my best. But I wanted some more interactions between the reader and Toji.
But I hope you guys like this new chapter. And again, I am glad you guys are enjoying the series so far. It means so much!

Outside, the night is black as tar — wind spreads around the house like an omen, trying its hardest to block out the stomping hooves of a mare and the deafening crunch of rocks and soil under its monstrous feet. If you didn't sleep so close to the front of the house, you'd have been deafened to it all, but there's just something about being the last line of defense protecting your only son from the horrors of reality that wakes you with straight-backed fright. Breath caught in your lungs like fire, you assess the damning blackness of your room, barely able to make out the night through the dusty paneled window.

After over a decade, you still don’t understand how you and Sukuna are friends— best friends, at that. Half the time, he’s kind of a grump. He’ll act like he’s bored with you, like he has somewhere better to be.
And surprisingly, he did.
But you can count on Sukuna to drag you there with him– whether it be to an underground fight club for robots, built by the geeks that were controlling them, or a mixer held in some science museum, which is actually pretty fun, by the way. Both are.
This nerd had a fucking life.
It wasn’t always like this. He used to be an unsociable loser who’d scoff at the thought of going to parties. Now you’re in some beat-up, dimly lit warehouse, watching him holler along with the rest of the crowd, cheering on the robot he placed a bet on. The expensive cologne he randomly decided to switch to, managing to reach your nose, reminding you how much he’s changed.

It was supposed to be simple — a study group with four girls from your class at a cute, pastel tea shop everyone else claims is "their place".
You rehearse the basics in your head on the way there:
Smile
Nod
Don't correct anyone
Don't sound bored
Don't be yourself too much
And at first it goes okay.
You try not to dwell on how visibly you stand out.
Around you, everything is soft — pastel pinks and whites, glossy nails, perfect French tips.
You’re all black.
Their manicures gleam; yours is a vampy shade, chipped at the edges. Their makeup is blush and shine, lips glazed and gentle. Yours are dark, matching the shadow around your eyes.
People say being alt is cool now. Maybe it is — when it’s a choice. When it isn’t the thing you’ve carried since adolescence, the thing that made you the weird girl in high school.
But this isn’t high school, you remind yourself.
This is college.
You’re fine. You have to be.

An icy chill overtook your body during the night, waking you up for the nth time with goosebumps and a trembling jaw. Beside you, curled up tight around your midsection, was your friend, shivering just as you were. Though it seemed the freezing temperature hadn’t woken Yorozu up from her sleep just yet. Not even the two of you curled together was enough to keep yourselves warm, and if you didn’t figure something out soon, you’d no doubt succumb to frostbite.
It was the first frost of the season, so you couldn’t be too upset that you weren’t prepared with the proper bedding. However, you could be upset that what little bedding you had was being taken up almost entirely by the woman at your side.
Your fingers curled into the fabric and tugged on it, making Yorozu stir in her sleep until she grumbled, “Stop.”
“I’m freezing,” you whispered, giving it another pull, but alas, no extra slack was given to you.
“M’freezing, too.” She sniffled, nose stuffed up with the cold, before she let out a puff of air. “This is miserable. Imagine if we slept separately. We’d be dead already.” When her legs tangled with yours, her cold feet brushed up your calf, making you hiss and flinch away.
“We’re more apt to die from a sickness before we freeze to death, but I don’t intend on dying either of those ways.” You pushed the thin blanket off your body and grabbed Yorozu’s hand. “Come on.”
Minutes later, you both stood in front of Sukuna’s bedroom door, still shivering and nearly numb.
“It’s like standing in front of a bear cave,” she murmured, glancing down at you. “You really don’t think he’ll kill us for this?”
You gave a shrug. “Maybe, but at least he’d be quick about it. It beats freezing to death, or succumbing to malady, right?”
“I suppose.”
