For the last time Neil is not oblivious he's just so busy playing 5d chess with everyone he meets that the concept of regular chess baffles and bores him. Matt what do you mean I should hook up with a cheerleader can't you see I'm busy waging psychological warfare on a Frenchman.

Second year Wymack goes Neil why is Sheena screaming that you stole her phone and Neil goes well probably because I stole her phone. And Wymack is like why did you steal her phone which is when Neil pulls out the evidence that Sheena is dating a gambling addict who's pressuring her to throw matches. And now Wymack technically has to say thank you for telling me but also why not just say that in the first place instead of doing all this. At which point Neil admits that he wanted to see if he can frame one of the freshmen dealer for it. And now Wymack has to ask what he has against that poor kid. And Neil goes nothing but if I have a pretense to kick him off practice for a week I can make the freshie backline panic enough that they actually put in some effort.

And then Wymack says if I knew you'd be this big a pain I never would've made you vc. And Neil says what do you mean if?

The thing about Andrew and Kevin is Andrew believes that Kevin can't really be this spineless, and Kevin believes Andrew can't really be this apathetic, and they both resolve to poke each other with a pointy stick until they're proven correct. And then Neil shows up and instead of going hey maybe poking each other with sticks isn't getting anywhere he says oh look it's stick time and starts poking them both even harder. And then it works.

The thing about Kevin and Neil is that they're both perfectly aware that they're bad at being normal people, and that their genuine attempts at masking it tend to fall short, but each of them doesn't care about that as much as they do about the fact that the other one is doing it wrong.

The thing about Neil and Andrew is their feelings of dissociation from their lives and skewed sense of consequences should have led them to some form of domestic terrorism, except then they got too invested in enabling Kevin to remember that they can just do pipe bombs about the whole Riko situation.

I gotta be honest I do think it would be very funny if after the Binghamton game Lola tried to call Neil to taunt him but it didn’t go through because he never charges his phone so it’s dead and just going straight to voicemail

Like the plan would still work, they didn’t need Neil to know ahead of time, they could still get him away unnoticed with a whole riot happening

But I do think it would have taken a bit of the wind out of their sails. Just a bunch of grown adults huddled around a ringing phone in this car trying to call a teenager to bully him but he won’t pick up. And they’re like ‘no it’s fine it’s whatever’ but clearly they’re a little upset about it

I said this in another post, but it bears repeating:

Neil is to crime what Andrew is to Exy. Supernaturally talented and unstoppable if he wanted, but due to his general lack of interest nerfs himself.

Everyone should be grateful Neil finds crime boring and uninteresting compared to Exy cause he would have been the Kevin Day of crime, surpassing his father and mother. Nora confirmed in the EC that if the Moriyamas had messed with Andrew, Neil would have carefully and competently dismantled their empire and watched all of them burn. He was practically lab created and stress tested his whole life to fight, outlive, and outsmart criminal masterminds.

My headcannon is Ichirou is secretly relieved that Nathaniel just wants to play stick ball.
