I do understand what you're saying but Chimney did once say that the funerals are for the living, not the dead, and I think a lack of Bobby-focus makes the hole more obvious. I'm not saying I agree with it necessarily but I dunno, maybe that's what they're going for

Funerals are so that the living can come to term about losing their loved one but this episode didn't felt like they were trying to make us come to term about bobby dying (althoughto be fair to them, that was probably the idea), that would have been accomplished much more successfully and without as much backlash by doing a proper send-off (like Sloan's in greys anatomy if you've ever watched) but instead it feels like they just saying you think he's alive? He's not

I think that they tried to go for was comparing a mother's grief with fans' grief in a compassionate way (Athena never treating her like her feelings weren't valid or that she was delusional) but it ended up falling flat because, maybe inadvertently, there were "clues", like the script (which was probably an April fools joke that got out of hand), that gave fans hope he wasn't really dead.

I could even go further and say that even if the idea that he could potentially be alive hadn't occurred to you at the time of watching the episode, it was definitely planted by the plot line of a character believing so wholeheartedly that their deceased loved one was alive at the same time we're having a funeral episode but that's just me.

I think Bobby is dead and buried, genuinely the only way he could be alive now is if the government has him in secret and they never released his body and I think that's a tad too crazy even for 911 ngl but here's what's bothering me about the episode:

It wasn't about Bobby.

When you kill off a main character, specially after 8 seasons, you want to make sure that the episode after you take such a step is dedicated to that character, make it special, the characters in universe get to have a send-off, a memorial service and a burial, the viewers get this to honor the character and the actor.

This could have been a great opportunity to see the firefam as a family as they help each other through their sorrow, see flashbacks of Bobby being a father, mentor and husband to them and see them go through the stages of grief until we land in acceptance that Bobby is gone.

This was not that, this was about making YOU believe he could potentially be alive so that they could pull the rug from right out of your feet and get another gotcha moment.

If we had gotten an episode like the one I described, I would have been okay with Bobby dying but the shitshow we got? Not even the genius of Angela Bassett and Kenneth Choi could save. They're ruining the show on real time

I think one of the biggest problems with the Eddie Diaz has Anger Issues discourse is that a lot of people seems to be misunderstanding what anger issues are and understanding it as Eddie Diaz is Violent (specifically to others), it's not a diagnosis to be had, it's a symptom of several disorders (like depression and PTSD which Eddie definitely has had) and it's defined as not being able to control your anger or not being able to deal with it in a healthy way (I'm looking at you fight club and s5 breakdown). Also, while self-harm can have several origins, anger at yourself (perceiving yourself as an insufficient parent), situations you can't change (Shannon dying/the loml suing your department, maybe) can be one of them.

Eddie Diaz definitely had anger issues, based on recent seasons I would say once he learned how to manage his depression and PTSD in season 5 he learned to deal with his emotions in a healthy way (which we can see in s8 and how he dealt with his parents) and therefore, no longer has anger issues.

But even when he was at rock bottom and was neck deep in anger with the fight club and later when he destroyed his room in s5, he's never been violent, abusive, or dangerous to others and definitely not in the degree some people paint him to be or how some understand it when they hear "anger issues" and there's definitely a conversation to be had in how quickly they paint the mexican man as violent and not Buck or Bobby who you can argue, also had had anger issues before.

So anyway, yes, Eddie Diaz had anger issues, but he doesn't anymore because he worked on himself, and it never made him violent or abusive or dangerous. He's a soft, sensitive man who feels too much, and for the longest time, he was forced to either hide it or deal with it in the form of "manly emotions," like anger.

I wanted to write this in an effort to change that narrative a little bit of how people understand anger as something explosive and violent and specially, its own problem, while it can be that, it can also be mean comments or passive aggressiveness or being irritated all the time or hurting yourself and it usually it's a symptom of something more.

Let me tell you the vision I just had. It is season 8, Eddie shaved the mustache. Why? He had the revelation. He's gay. He's had the breakdown, and he's good. He's dealing with a lifetime of comphet, but he's fine. He's trying his hand at dating men, nothing serious - he's just had the revelation of a lifetime after all - but then he meets this guy, let's call him Johnny. He's kinda like a Tommy to him, someone who has experience, who knows what he's doing but still very much casual. Now he's talking to Bobby about relationships, and Bobby's telling him everything that made him fall for Athena and that when you know, you know or something akin and Eddie stops, just full body stops and he goes I think I know with this bewildered look in his eyes. In that moment, he receives a call from Johnny, and "Bad Omens" by 5SOS starts to play, we don't hear the conversation but Eddie still looks astonished and after, Eddie says goodbye abruptly to Bobby and now he just looks determined and goes into his car and starts driving and just when the song gets to "somebody else" he arrives to the loft and knocks on the door and we see Buck as he opens the door.

Picture this: Early days batman, is just Alfred, Robin, and him. The Justice League is newly formed, and he doesn't trust it with his identity yet (much less Robin's), but uh oh the whole league gets captured! some smart villain who is obsessed with finding out their weaknesses and what do they have? truth serum! and they try it on batman first because he's the unknown, no one knows anything about him, so they ask him things, they ask him, "What do you love the most in the world? What is your biggest weakness?" And he fights it, but eventually he just says dick 😔
