Dr. Al Hashimi being the only person in the entire ED to pronounce Victoria and Samira’s names correctly and consistently introducing herself without whitening her name and making it easier to pronounce is such a small detail that’s actually so fantastic and true to her character because actually think this is something all brown (using this to refer to south asian and middle eastern women atm) women would like to do but are always slightly at fear of being like too much or too ethnic but eventually there is a specific archetype of brown women who develop a level of confidence and self assurance (plus a no-bullshit, get it done attitude) who decide to purposefully establish their name with the correct pronunciation and do the same for others AND MAYBE IM READING TOO MUCH INTO IT but the choice to portray Dr. Al Hashimi as one of these women makes so much sense to me as someone who has been a part of these communities
Watching the scene where Al-Hashimi cradles Brenda's face and smooths her hair makes me wonder if anyone did that for her. If there was a moment during her time overseas—when she frantically tried to put everyone back together, to save more children and mothers than was possible—where she felt like giving up. Did another doctor with kind, sure hands pull her out of a road, call her name, tell her it will be alright, that she'd get through the other side of the grief threatening to choke her? Did they bring her inside and let her cry, give her a moment of kindness and respite in the middle of a mass grave?
Al-Hashimi sees doctors and patients alike on their worst days, in their loneliest, coldest, most human moments, and meets them with nothing but unflinching compassion, with an understanding that might be frightening to people who are unused to being seen so openly. Who did that for her? Who does it for her now?
I think the fandom as a whole is overreacting just a bit to Al-Hashimi’s ai suggestion. In this case, it’s literally just speech-to-text with some formatting and Al-Hashimi specifically warns the that’s it’s not perfect and to check their work. It’s not like they’re using it to make diagnoses for them or anything. I hate unregulated gen ai as much as the next person but this is actually a great example of it being used as a tool, rather than as a cheap replacement for something else

when you spent all morning trying to talk to your coworker (who has the same job title as you) about how to make sure that your workplace has a smooth transition from his control to yours, but he kept blowing you off and didn't want to hear about any of the idea that you had and wanted to run by him, and every time you tried to have a serious conversation with you he would say he was just trying to get through the day so he could leave on his three month sabbatical, and now, after ignoring every single attempt you made to make sure that you could run your workplace smoothly without him, he's telling you he doesn't think that the workplace will survive without him (he just berrated one of his female employees for being stressed) even though you just saved a child with a procedure he had never even heard of, much less knew how to perform
