hyunjin masterlist | Meddling SKZOOs
Hyunjin adores his little ferret friend. Really, he does, but that doesn’t mean he’s immune to wanting to bang his head against a wall when the little guy gets mischievous. He’d known when he first adopted Jiniret, the tendencies he’d probably have. He is a ferret, after all, so he does like the stash things away. That was expected.
Hyunjin couldn’t even begin to count the number of times he’d lost a paintbrush, just to find it hidden under the bed with about a thousand other little things. He couldn’t even keep pocket change anymore because Jiniret always takes it.
That part, he never really minded. He expected the stashing of things and the burrowing between the couch cushions. What he wasn’t prepared for was the way the little ferret would sometimes say exactly what he felt or thought. It doesn’t even really happen all that often. It’s more like it’s some kind of impulse that the little critter just can’t ignore.
The first time it happened, all Hyunjin could do was stare at the little guy in shock. His close friend Changbin had been over, along with his SKZOO, Dwaekki. Hyunjin had always loved the effect the pig-rabbit has on his best friend. It’s sweet, the way they match each other so perfectly, and anyone can see how Changbin started feeling more secure in himself after he adopted Dwaekki. Still, that just made Hyunjin all the more embarrassed when Jiniret spoke his mind that day.
Now, Dwaekki loved to eat; that was no secret. It wasn’t really an issue, either. Changbin always made sure Dwaekki ate healthily, even if he did snack around a bit. Apparently, Jiniret had also noticed Dwaekki’s affinity for snacking, and before thinking about how his words might sound, he opened his mouth and spoke.
“You eat a lot, don’t you?” The ferret’s tone was almost dry as he looked at the pink pig-rabbit with a straight face. Hyunjin’s jaw had dropped, and his face turned as pink as Dwaekki’s coat.
Luckily, neither Dwaekki nor Changbin took it to heart, at least, if Changbin’s cackling from the other side of the couch was anything to go by. Needless to say, Jiniret and Hyunjin had a long talk that day about how his words can affect others, even if he’s just making an observation and doesn’t mean any harm.
The little guy felt horrible when he realized that his words could’ve hurt his best friend, and from then on, he’d been more intentional with what he said. Jiniret was never one to repeat mistakes, and that was something Hyunjin has always been very proud of.
Today, though? Today might just have been his last straw. He’d taken Jiniret out to eat, as one does. The restaurant wasn’t too crowded, but it wasn’t empty either, with a few tables being occupied throughout the room. He’d gotten a kid’s menu for Jiniret, knowing the little ferret likes to doodle and scribble.
After they’d ordered, Hyunjin had noticed you, sitting a few tables away. He tried to be normal, tried to keep his eyes averted, but they just kept straying back to you. You were just so pretty. You were pulling him in, and he couldn’t even entirely place why. He just couldn’t stop glancing toward where you were sitting across from a brunette.
Unbeknownst to him, his SKZOO had taken notice of his staring and decided to take matters into his own hands. If Hyunjin was scared to make friends, he should help, right? At least, that’s what his little brain assumes. So, he works hard, using all three crayons that came with his kids’ menu to draw the prettiest flower he could manage. Then, he got up and wandered toward your table before Hyunjin could even notice.
Hyunjin, however, caught Jiniret just a second too late. He glanced toward you again, only to see his ferret friend holding up his menu to you and babbling about something. You’re smiling down at him, thankfully, so it must not be too bad. Still, Hyunjin stands and rushes toward your table, and he approaches in just enough time for his animal companion to embarrass him.
“Yeah!” The little ferret nods enthusiastically. “Hyune thinks you’re hot!”
Of course, that’s when you notice Hyunjin nearing, and his pained expression and red cheeks are enough for you to deduce that this must be “Hyune.” You smile sheepishly at him, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.
“I’m so sorry about him…” Hyunjin starts, stepping close enough to rest a hand on top of Jiniret’s furry head. “He just kind of…speaks sometimes.”
A laugh bursts from your lips, brief but bright, before you rein it in to answer the man in front of you. “He’s alright. I thought it was sweet.”
His blush worsens, if that’s even possible at this point, and he shakes his head a bit. “Still. Jiniret, apologize for interrupting their date-”
“Oh! It’s not a date. Just two friends catching up,” you interject, smiling at him softly, almost like you’re hoping he’ll catch onto something.
He blinks slowly before nodding, just once. “Right… Well, um, we’ll leave you to your dinner. Sorry, again.” He turns to leave, dragging Jiniret with him, and he quickens his pace when he thinks he hears you chuckling behind him. Great.
“Wait,” you speak up, standing from your seat. “How about you join my friend and I? We’d love to listen to Jiniret a bit longer.” Your head tilts to the side a bit, and you’re still standing rather far away when he turns to face you again, like you’re trying not to spook him.
When he’s quiet for a moment longer, you try again. “Or…I could just give you my number, and we could work out a time to meet up again?”
That’s when it clicks for him. You’re attracted to him, too. He shakes himself out of his stupor, stumbling a bit as he pulls his phone out of his pants pocket. “T-That would be amazing! I mean, yeah, sure…”
Your smile widens slightly as he hands you his phone, and it doesn’t go away, even after he and Jiniret return to their table. He’s not much better, either. In fact, poor little Jiniret has to nudge him to get him to realize that their food had been delivered to their table.

To say Changbin is panicking would be an understatement. Everyone had told him that getting a hybrid SKZOO would make things marginally more difficult for him, but he thought he could handle it. He’d been immediately taken with the little pig-rabbit hybrid, and there was no way he wasn’t bringing him home.
He supposes he saw himself in the odd little creature in some way, something that most people would look at as strange, someone who doesn’t fit into the standards society has placed on them. Changbin is no stranger to being judged for the way he looks, so he relates to the little guy in a way. He’d promised himself that he’d show that little pig-rabbit what unconditional love could feel like, and that’s exactly what he’s done.
Except now the little critter that he’s shown nothing but love and care to has run away from him on a busy street. Changbin is looking around frantically, searching in every possible direction for a glimpse of pink fur or ears in the crowd. His heart is racing; his hands are trembling. He knew that some people buy backpack leashes for their SKZOOs, but Dwaekki had never even attempted to run off before.
He raises a shaky hand to run through his hair, keeping it there for a moment. He forces himself to take a breath. Dwaekki has to be around here somewhere; he knows the little guy wouldn’t go far, or at least, he hopes. Once his heart rate has gone down a bit, he thinks, really thinks. What would interest his companion enough to pull him away? He sighs. Food.
He looks around for any kind of food, a restaurant, a food truck, a street vendor. Anything. Faintly, he smells something sweet and sugary, and his instincts tell him to follow that. So, he does, heading in the direction of the scent that’s something similar to vanilla, but that he can’t quite place.
He pushes through the crowd as hastily yet as gently as possible, murmuring apologies as he goes, and the smell leads him to a bakery, where, thankfully, he finds his tiny friends happily standing outside, conversing with someone who Changbin doesn’t care to pay attention to right now.
“Dwaekki!” The word comes out as something between a shout and a sigh of relief as he rushes toward his little companion, wrapping the pink pig-rabbit in a warm hug. “I thought I’d lost you, buddy! You can’t run off like that, okay?”
“Sorry, Binnie!” The little critter giggles, eagerly returning Changbin’s hold. He pulls back after just a moment, though, pointing up at the small table just outside the door of the bakery, which displays free samples. “But look! I found goodies!”
When Changbin sees what his tiny companion has run off for, he can’t hold back a tired sigh. “Dwaekki…we still can’t just run off without saying anything. You should’ve told me that you wanted something sweet. I would’ve brought you over here, bud…”
The pig-rabbit pouts, his tall, pink ears falling in guilt. “I’m sorry…” He trails off with a pout so adorable that Changbin immediately forgets all of his worry. He really is too cute for his own good.
“It’s alright. Let’s just not do that again, alright?” Changbin ruffles the tuft of pink fur in front of Dwaekki’s ears, grinning as the smile returns to his little buddy’s face.
“I promise, Binnie! Can we get treats now! The nice person told me I could have as I want!” Dwaekki smiles widely up at Changbin, cheesing like he’s just won the lottery, and to him, that’s probably close to what he’s feeling like.
Changbin’s brow furrows, however, at the mention of this mystery person, who has offered his SKZOO free treats. He turns his head toward the sample table again, and that’s when he finally notices you, frilly apron tied around your waist as you adjust the goodies on the table. He blinks, surprised at the fact that you’ve probably been there the whole time, but then, he gets protective.
He knows how people look at Dwaekki sometimes, like he’s strange, like he’s some sort of novelty. He doesn’t want anyone offering his companion things just because they think he’s funny to look at. Changbin loves that little guy with everything in him, and he’ll do everything in his power to ensure that Dwaekki never has to feel judged as Changbin has.
“Oh, really?” His tone is guarded. You don’t miss that, and it doesn’t really offend you. It’s clear how much he cares for the small creature, and you actually find it sweet how protective he is of the little pig-rabbit.
“He’s not lying, I promise,” you smile softly, trying to be sure your genuine kindness comes across. “He can have whatever he’d like.”
“You don’t have to do that. One is enough,” Changbin replies, shaking his head as he stands to his full height, hand holding Dwaekki’s.
“Really, I don’t mind. He’s a sweetheart, and I love meeting SKZOOs anyway. Here, little guy.” You slide a little brownie over to the small critter, grinning widely as he eagerly takes the treat and munches away at it.
“Thank you,” Changbin sighs, rubbing Dwaekki’s head with his free hand. The pig-rabbit leans into the touch, obviously more than content with the affection from his human companion.
Something draws you to him. Maybe it’s his sweet little companion, or maybe it’s the care he so easily exhibits toward the little guy. Either way, you find yourself starting up a conversation. “You must be the one he was telling me about…” You tilt your head to the left a bit, unable to hide the slight smirk at the man in front of you.
He flushes at the thought of what the SKZOO could’ve said, knowing Dwaekki has a bit of an oversharing problem. “Uh, yeah…probably. I’m Changbin.”
Your smirk turns to a smile again as you give him your name in return. You open your mouth to speak again, but the little critter cuts you off. “Yeah! This is Binnie! He’s the lonely guy who takes care of me, and always complains about wanting to find someone, but never-”
He’s cut off when a hand abruptly clasps over his little pig snout and mouth, leaving enough room for him to breathe through his nostrils. Your eyes dart to Changbin as you hold in a laugh, immediately taking notice of the bright red color on the tips of his pierced ears. “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about…” The man chuckles awkwardly.
“Right. Well, you two are more than welcome to as many treats as you’d like.” You try to change the topic as he removes his hand from the pig-rabbit’s mouth, hoping to alleviate some of his embarrassment.
“I’ll take a lot!” Dwaekki pipes up eagerly, taking another brownie bite from the table. Clearly, he’s not one to keep his thoughts to himself. “But Binnie probably doesn’t want any. He spends too much time at the gym,” he speaks around the mouthful of brownie.
Changbin shoots him a glare before turning back to you. “I’ll take a brownie, too. Sorry about him.”
You laugh it off, giving him a brownie bite with a smile. “It’s alright. I think he’s sweet. What’s his name again?”
“Dwaekki. It’s, uh, a mashup of the Korean words for pig and rabbit.” His ears turn red again as he explains the SKZOO’s name, and your heart warms at how endearing this man is.
“That’s really clever. Dwaekki. I like it…”
“Thanks.” He’s not looking at you anymore, instead focusing on his smaller friend, looking down at the hybrid SKZOO with nothing but warm affection in his eyes.
“You’re welcome. You guys are welcome to come back any time, by the way. I’d love to keep supplying Dwaekki with sugar highs,” you chuckle. You really hope they come back.
“We might just have to take you up on that.” Changbin gives you one last smile before leading Dwaekki away from your small bakery, this time keeping a firm hold on his companion’s furry little hand.

Minho would never want to change his little rabbit companion. He understood what it was like to feel the pressure of trying to be something you aren’t, and that’s exactly why he’d always given Leebit room to be his truest self. Sure, Minho would get a little embarrassed sometimes when Leebit would glare at people who were just trying to be nice to him, but if his little guy didn’t enjoy meeting new people, Minho wasn’t going to force him. That’s why Minho was shocked to his core when a new neighbor moved in across the hall, and Leebit acted like a perfect angel with them.
It should’ve been like any other morning. Minho often takes Leebit to work with him, as he’s a dance instructor for a kids’ class, and the little ones enjoy getting to see his grumpy bunny. So, they had just exited their own apartment, Leebit’s hand begrudgingly clasped in Minho’s, when they turned to find the door of the apartment across the hall wide open.
Minho frowns to himself, knowing that the apartment has been empty for months now. He holds the rabbit’s hand a bit tighter as he cranes his neck to peer inside the apartment. He’s scoping it out when he hears a voice behind him.
“Ope, don’t worry! It’s just me!” He turns around to find the most attractive person he’s probably ever seen, holding a rather large cardboard box. “You’re not the first one who’s been so confused about the apartment being in use now. Although I suppose I probably should’ve made sure the door was closed, huh?” You chuckle a bit awkwardly.
That’s when he breaks out of his stupor. “Oh, uh, here. Let me help with that…” He drops Leebit’s hand in favor of taking the box from you. Leebit would usually scowl up at Minho for doing such a thing, even if he acts like he hates the contact, but instead, he can’t take his eyes off you.
“Oh! Thank you so much.” You lead him into the open apartment. “You can just set it wherever.” The place is still bare, he notices. There are no pictures, no decorations, no life, yet somehow, he knows once you’ve had time to let your personality seep in, it’ll feel more alive.
“It’s no problem. Do you need help with anything else before I go?” he asks kindly, with Leebit still gazing up at you curiously.
“No, I can handle the rest. Thanks again. I’m Y/N, by the way.” You reach a hand out for him to shake, and the smile on your face could convince him to carry up anything else you have, no matter how badly he needs to get to work.
“Minho…” He gives a small, albeit a bit awkward, smile in return. A strange warmth spreads through him when he shakes your hand, and he finds that he doesn’t really want to let go. His bunny friend tugging on his pants leg brings him back to reality, though. “Oh, uh, this is Leebit. Don’t be offended if he doesn’t talk, though, he’s kind of-”
He cuts himself off when the white rabbit approaches you with a timid smile. Minho’s honestly a bit freaked out for a second. He didn’t somehow mix up his SKZOO with someone else’s, right? This can not be the little bunny that hissed at the doorman last week, the same doorman who’s been working at this building since well before Minho even adopted the little guy.
“Shy…” Minho finishes, still staring at his rabbit in amazement as the little SKZOO reaches out for your hands, happily letting you dote on him.
“Oh, what a sweetheart,” you coo at the bunny. “Leebit. What a cute name… Aren’t you just the cutest little bunny?” You continue to shower the little fellow in praises, and he’s wearing the most smug grin as he stares back at his human companion.
Honestly, Minho’s a bit jealous. Why can’t he dote on Leebit like that? He has plenty of love to give. What makes you so special? They don’t even know you; there’s no way you’re that appealing. You probably have some kind of dark secret, he thinks. You probably don’t get your laundry out of the dryer until you absolutely need it. You probably pour your milk before your cereal. You probably-
His envy-induced thoughts are cut off by Leebit tugging at his pants leg again, bringing him out of the glare his face had settled into. He looks down at the critter. “It’s time to go,” the bunny states plainly, staring up at him like he didn’t just completely switch up his personality for some stranger.
“Right. We’ve gotta get to work…” Minho trails off, still looking down at his animal companion with a questioning scowl as he grabs his furry little hand.
“No worries! I’ll see you two later.” Your smile is still kind as you wave goodbye to them, although it’s mostly directed at the rabbit holding the man’s hand. That fact makes Minho’s scowl deepen.
“Yeah…later.” With that, he heads off to work, deciding he’ll have to have a little discussion with his SKZOO when they get home about his little personality change.

Everything was going wrong for Chan today. He’d planned on taking his little wolf companion to the park early this morning, but of course, he’d overslept, which led to a not-so-fun wake-up call from his little guy. Being brought to consciousness by a small, bipedal, talking wolf is not the magical experience it might sound like, especially when said wolf is jumping on your bed, scolding you while he holds back tears—dramatic little thing, that one.
Really, though, Chan was the only person the little wolf let himself get that way around. He was a happy little guy, by all means, but he didn’t like showing his emotions too much. It had taken Chan months to get him to open up and stop bottling things up, especially since he feels such big emotions for such a tiny being. Chan loves being the one his little wolf feels so comfortable with, but he does not enjoy it when the result is an unfortunate wake-up call.
Still, Chan got out of bed and got dressed to take his SKZOO to the park, but his bad morning couldn’t end there. He’d decided to stop at his usual coffee shop for a little pick-me-up before he chases his furry companion around the park for a few hours. However, his favorite barista wasn’t working today, so, of course, his order was made wrong. She always made it perfectly, and the one day she’s off, the one day he needs a decent coffee, his order couldn’t be further from correct.
He grimaces after taking the first sip, eyes clenched and nose scrunched in disbelief at the taste. He flinches back to look at it in disdain, holding it out in front of him with the hand that isn’t clasping his little wolf’s hand. Finally, he sighs with a shake of his head, deciding to drink it despite the less-than-pleasant taste as he exits the small coffee shop, not wanting to waste the money he’d spent on it.
Chan assumes that’s it. He doesn’t have anything else going on for the rest of the day, so surely it can’t go any further downhill. Except, he seems to have jinxed himself. Right as he and his companion approach the park entrance, he steps on a stick, which then rolls on the concrete sidewalk, causing his ankle to move in a way it definitely shouldn’t.
He’s not able to catch himself on his way down, despite his best efforts, so he ends up on his butt on a sidewalk right in front of the park, unable to move his foot due to pain. Meanwhile, his still gross coffee had slipped from his hand as he tried to catch himself, resulting in it covering the small, furry wolf beside him, who was currently staring at his owner in shock.
“I’m so sorry, Wolfie! Let me get- Ah!” Chan cuts himself off with a hiss of pain. He’d tried to stand up to comfort and clean the wolf, but the sharp, stabbing pain that shoots up his leg when he moves brings him to a halt. Before he can say anything else, the wolf jumps into action.
“Don’t worry, Channie! I’ll get help!” He’s scampered off to who knows where before Chan can even attempt to stop him. Great. Now, he’s probably lost his SKZOO because he can’t get up to chase him. He lets out a frustrated sigh, combing a hand through his hair as he runs through about seventy different ways he can fix this, but none of them seem like a good option. It’d be amazing if he could ask someone for help, but of course, there’s not a soul in sight. Seriously? A warm, sunny Saturday at the park, and no one is around? What does the universe have against him today?
Eventually, though, he hears the pitter-patter of paws that could only belong to his Wolfie. His head shoots up, and he almost passes out when he sees who the little critter is dragging behind him. His favorite barista. The barista he’d been harboring a crush on for at least two months now. The barista who is the entire reason he even goes to that coffee shop at all. Yeah…the universe hates him.
“Channie! I got help, and I think she’s a princess! Look at her pretty dress!” The small animal whispers the last part when he gets close enough to his owner, but his whispers are about as quiet as fighter jet engines. So, the girl had clearly heard, judging by the blush on her face. Chan is sporting a similar flush, embarrassed by his furry companion.
“I’m sorry about him…” He mumbles, not quite meeting her eye.
“No, don’t even worry about it. He’s sweet…” She smiles, and Chan thinks his heart is gonna beat out of his chest. That’s exactly what he needs, a heart attack on top of his probably broken ankle. “How can I help?”
“Ah, I’m not too sure… I tripped, and now I can’t really put pressure on my ankle.” He winces, even more humiliated by the fact that he’s being forced to explain his needless injury to the woman he’s been crushing on.
The woman grimaces slightly. “That sounds kinda bad… Can I maybe help you stand up? My car isn’t too far from here. I can totally drive you to the hospital.”
“You really don’t have to-” This time, he’s cut off by his wolf.
“Uh, Channie,” he starts sassily, crossing his arms and cocking his head to one side, hip jutted out, “you always tell me not to hide what I’m feeling. If you’re hurt, you need to see a doctor.” Jeez, why does Chan love this little guy so much again? He’s struggling to remember right now.
The woman snorts out a laugh at the wolf’s insistence and decides that she’s not gonna let up, either. “C’mon, let’s get you to a hospital.” She doesn’t give Chan a choice, grabbing one of his arms and wrapping it around her shoulders as she helps him stand. Chan winces with a hiss at the movement, but keeps his complaints to himself. Logically, he knows they’re right; he should see a doctor about his ankle.
As they walk toward her car, she realizes that no introductions have been made. “I’m Y/N, by the way.”
Chan fights the urge to say that he knows. He’s seen it on her nametag at the coffee shop countless times by now, but he doesn’t want to come across as a creep. “Chan,” he replies simply.
She smiles at him, repeating the name to see how it feels leaving her lips. “What about the little guy?” She turns her smile to the little wolf walking closely to Chan’s leg.
“Ah…” he trails off, the tips of his ears turning red once more. “WolfChan, actually.”
She lets out a small giggle, and all Chan can think is how much he’d give to hear that sound every day for the rest of his life. “Chan and WolfChan, huh? Easy to remember, then.”
Chan laughs in return, as best he can with the pain still shooting up his leg. “Yeah…it came from my sister. When I first adopted him, she kept saying he acted like a mini-me, so she started calling him WolfChan as a joke. But it kind of just…stuck. I usually call him Wolfie, though. I think he likes it a bit better.”
“Wolfie is cute. It fits him.” Her smile widens when the little wolf turns bashful, but it doesn’t last long.
His chin juts out confidently, and he starts walking with a bit more pep in his step. “Yeah, well, I’m gonna call you princess, ‘cause you look like a princess,” he decides with a huff, his furry little tail swinging proudly behind him.
The woman laughs. Sure, the sundress she was wearing was cute, but she didn’t think it was exactly princess-worthy. Still, she wasn’t about to argue with the adorable little wolf. “I think I can live with that title.”
Soon enough, they make it to her car, and she helps Chan into the passenger seat as Wolfie crawls into the back. She rounds the car quickly once they’re both settled before climbing into the driver’s seat and starting the car. “Alright, next stop, hospital.”

With eight grown men running around in various stages of costume disasters, fake blood smudged across expensive hoodies, and someone—definitely Han—screaming because Hyunjin had hidden plastic spiders in his shoes again, silence was impossible.
But Minho had expected chaos.
What he hadn’t expected was for his entire emotional stability to collapse the second his front door opened.
Because standing there, clutching your hand with tiny fingers, was his son.
Dressed as Leebit.
For a moment, Minho genuinely forgot how to breathe.
The little white bunny hoodie swallowed your son whole, oversized ears flopping sideways as he stared up at his father with wide, sparkling eyes. Tiny whiskers were drawn onto his cheeks in slightly crooked lines, and the fluffy tail attached to the back bounced when he shifted his weight excitedly.
And then—
“Appa!”
Minho made a sound that no one in the history of humanity had ever heard before.
Somewhere between a gasp, a wheeze, and his soul physically leaving his body.
Behind him, Changbin blinked. “Oh my god.”
“I think he died,” Felix whispered.
“No, seriously, look at his face,” Jeongin said, already laughing.
Minho couldn’t hear any of them.
Because his son was wearing his character. Tiny. Round-cheeked. Looking unbearably proud of himself.
“Surprise,” you said carefully, already grinning because you knew exactly what kind of reaction this would get.
Minho just stared.
Then he slowly crouched down in front of your son like he was approaching a wild animal.
“…Who are you?” he asked softly.
Your son giggled immediately, bouncing on his feet. “Leebit!”
“Leebit?” Minho echoed weakly.
A nod so aggressive the bunny ears flopped into his eyes.
Minho put a hand over his mouth.
“Oh, he’s gone,” Chan muttered from the kitchen.
“Someone catch him.”
Your son grabbed the edge of Minho’s sleeve. “Appa, look!” He turned around in a circle to show off the costume properly, tail bobbing. “Eomma made it!”
Minho looked at you with genuine betrayal.
“You did this to me on purpose.”
You laughed. “Maybe.”
He looked back at your son.
The tiny hoodie sleeves covered half his hands. His little sneakers squeaked against the floor when he moved. The face paint on his nose had smudged slightly from him rubbing at it in the car.
Minho felt his heart physically cave in on itself.
He reached out carefully, almost reverently, and tugged one floppy bunny ear between his fingers.
“…You’re so precious,” he whispered like it personally offended him.
Your son beamed.
That was apparently the final blow.
Minho grabbed him instantly, hauling him into his arms with a dramatic groan and burying his face into the tiny bunny hood.
“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god—”
Your son squealed loudly, kicking his feet. “Appa!”
“You can’t do this to me,” Minho mumbled into his shoulder. “You can’t just show up looking like this.”
“Hyung is literally shaking,” Jisung announced from the couch.
And he was.
Minho was actually trembling a little as he held him.
Because it wasn’t just the costume.
It was the way your son had clearly been excited all day. The way he kept patting the bunny ears proudly. The way he looked at Minho like he’d hung the moon itself.
Like dressing up as Leebit was the coolest thing imaginable because it belonged to his dad.
Minho was weak to a lot of things.
Cats.
You.
Late-night fried chicken.
But nothing—absolutely nothing—destroyed him faster than his son loving him openly.
“Take a picture of us,” Minho demanded suddenly.
Felix already had his phone out. “Way ahead of you.”
“No, wait.” Minho adjusted the bunny hood carefully around your son’s face. “Okay. Now.”
Another squeal escaped your son when Minho started nuzzling his cheeks aggressively.
“Too cute,” Minho muttered. “Actually criminal.”
“Appa, breathing is important,” Seungmin said dryly.
Minho ignored him completely.
Your son suddenly grabbed Minho’s cheeks with both hands.
“Appa where your ears?”
The room burst into laughter.
Minho blinked. “My ears?”
“You need bunny ears too.”
“Oh, he’s right,” Hyunjin said immediately. “Hold on.”
Within thirty seconds, someone had shoved a pair of white bunny ears onto Minho’s head. Your son looked absolutely delighted by this development.
“Same!” he shouted excitedly, pointing between them.
Minho looked like he might cry.
Actually cry.
Chan saw it first and started cackling. “He’s emotional!”
“I am not emotional.”
“You absolutely are.”
Minho tightened his hold on your son defensively. “He said we match.”
“That’s your breaking point?” Changbin laughed.
“Yes.”

Your son leaned against Minho’s chest comfortably, playing with the bunny ears on his father’s head while Minho looked at him like he’d personally invented happiness.
And maybe it was ridiculous.
Maybe it was just a costume.
But Minho couldn’t stop thinking about how small he still was.
How one day those tiny hands wouldn’t reach for him automatically anymore.
How eventually Halloween costumes would become “embarrassing” and he’d stop asking his parents to match him.
The thought alone made Minho hold him tighter.

Outside, Seoul buzzed with Halloween energy. Kids in costumes ran around excitedly while decorated storefronts glowed orange and purple in the evening dark.
Your son, however, only cared about one thing.
“Pudding.”
“Ah,” Minho nodded seriously. “A man of culture.”
Tiny fingers wrapped around Minho’s hand as they walked down the street together, bunny ears bouncing with every step.
And Minho kept glancing down.
Just checking and making sure this was real. Because there was something so absurdly soft about your child waddling around dressed as a mini version of his dad’s character.
At one point, a STAY walking past recognized them.
Her eyes widened immediately.
“Oh my god—is he dressed as Leebit?”

“Please calm down,” Jeongin said.

And then a candy bag.

“Minho,” you warned.
“He’s celebrating.”
“He’s three.”

At some point, he leaned down and whispered loudly:

The rest of the guys had flown out two days ago for a string of ambassador appearances, some luxury brand deal that had them bouncing between Seoul, Tokyo, and Shanghai. No staff, no managers on-site, just you and Jeongin. He’d begged you to stay over while they were gone, promising it would be “just us, no chaos for once.” You’d laughed and said yes, because saying no to Yang Jeongin was basically impossible.
Now you were tangled up on his bed, the one shoved against the far wall of the room he shared with Chan. The lights were off, only the faint glow of the city skyline leaking through the half-closed blinds. Jeongin’s mouth was warm and slow against yours, one of his hands sliding under the hem of your hoodie like he had all the time in the world. His other hand cupped the back of your neck, thumb brushing your jaw in that gentle way that always made your stomach flip.
He murmured against your lips, smiling. “I swear every time you kiss me back like that I forget how to breathe.”
You laughed softly, tugging him closer by his shirt. “Good.”
His grin widened and he rolled you under him, kissing you deeper, until the sound cut through the air like a blade.

Your heart slammed to a stop. The front door was locked. Triple-locked. You’d both checked it twice before coming back here. No one had a key except the members, and they were literally on another continent.
Jeongin froze on top of you, eyes wide. The smile vanished. Another knock. Louder.
You both stayed perfectly still, barely breathing. His hand was still under your hoodie, but neither of you moved an inch.

It sounded exactly like Chan, same gentle tone, same little laugh at the end of the sentence. But Chan was in Japan. You’d seen the group chat photos of him eating convenience store ramen at 2 a.m. Tokyo time less than an hour ago.
Jeongin’s eyes met yours. For a second he looked like he might actually answer.
You grabbed his wrist hard, yanking him back down beside you. “That’s not Chan,” you whispered, voice shaking. “Jeongin, that’s not him.”
He stared at you, pupils blown with sudden fear. The knock came again, sharper.
“Innie-yah, come on. I left my charger in there. Just open up.”
Jeongin swallowed. He slid off the bed silently, bare feet padding across the floor. You watched in horror as he reached for the lock, then you lunged, grabbing the back of his shirt and hauling him backward with every bit of strength you had.
“No,” you hissed. “Do not open that door.”
The voice outside changed. Still Chan’s, but edged now. Impatient.
“Innie? Why aren’t you answering? I can hear you in there.”
Jeongin’s hand hovered over the lock, trembling. You shook your head frantically.
The knocking grew harder. Thud. Thud. Thud.
“Yang Jeongin. Open the door right now. That’s an order.”
The tone was wrong. Too sharp. Too demanding. Chan never spoke like that.
Jeongin backed away from the door like it had burned him. He scrambled back onto the bed and pulled you against his chest, arms locking around you so tightly it hurt. You could feel his heart hammering against your cheek.
The voice outside started to crack.
“Why are you ignoring me? I’m your leader. I said open the door.”
It laughed, but the laugh warped halfway through, dropping into something low and wet and wrong.
“Come on, Innie… I just want to see your pretty girlfriend up close.”
Your blood turned to ice. Jeongin’s arms spasmed around you. The voice kept going, getting louder, pressing right up against the crack under the door like it was breathing through the wood.
“She smells scared. Let me in and I’ll be gentle. I promise.”
It wasn’t Chan anymore. The accent was slipping. The warmth was gone. The words stretched and twisted, vowels elongating into something guttural and hungry.
You fumbled your phone out of your pocket with shaking hands, thumbed open the camera, and hit record. Jeongin buried his face in your hair, breathing fast and shallow.
The thing outside slammed its fist against the door so hard the frame rattled.
“OPEN THE DOOR, JEONGIN. OPEN IT OR I’LL COME THROUGH THE WALL.”
The voice splintered, layers on top of layers, Chan’s tone mixed with something demonic and ancient and starving. It screamed your name in a pitch that made your ears ring, then laughed again, the sound bubbling like it was underwater.
Then… silence.
No more knocking. No footsteps. Just the low hum of the dorm fridge in the kitchen and the frantic beat of Jeongin’s heart against yours.
You kept recording for another full minute before your thumb finally slipped off the button.
Jeongin’s voice was barely a whisper. “Is it gone?”
You didn’t answer. You couldn’t. You just clutched the phone like a lifeline.
Ten minutes later you were both still on the bed, fully dressed now, backs against the headboard, legs tangled together for comfort. You video-called the group chat with the sound off, hands shaking so badly you almost dropped the phone twice.
Chan picked up on the second ring, face filling the screen. He was in a hotel room, hair messy, eyes wide with worry the second he saw your expressions.
“What’s wrong? Why do you both look like you’ve seen a ghost..”
You didn’t speak. You just hit send on the video you’d recorded.
The call went dead silent as the eight of them watched it on their end. You heard someone curse, Minho, probably. Someone else made a choked sound.
Then Han’s voice came through, small and shaky.
“…That’s a mimic.”
Jeongin’s head snapped up. “A what?”
“A mimic,” Han repeated, voice cracking. “Like… the things that copy voices to lure people out. Old Korean folklore stuff. They don’t usually come inside buildings but, shit, the dorm’s been empty except for you two. They get bold when it’s quiet.”
Chan cut in, all leader-mode now, even though his face was pale. “Do not open that door. Do not leave the room. We’re calling the managers right now. They’re twenty minutes away, max. Stay on the line with us. Both of you. We’re not hanging up until they get there.”
Seungmin’s voice floated in from the background, tight with fear. “Innie, you okay?”
Jeongin swallowed hard and pulled you closer, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. His voice was hoarse but steady when he answered.
“Yeah. We’re… we’re okay. Just, hurry.”
You kept the phone propped on your knee, the group chat a chaotic mix of worried voices and rapid Korean. But you didn’t look at the screen anymore. Your eyes stayed fixed on the bedroom door, on the thin strip of darkness beneath it.
Outside, the hallway was quiet again.
Too quiet.
You didn’t let go of Jeongin’s hand once. Not even when the managers finally started pounding on the front door twenty-three minutes later, shouting your names in normal, human voices.
