Reyna still didn’t know how she’d managed to end up in this park with the dog this size. She’d personally never been an animal person - she loved them, but preferred it when they belonged to other people so she could love them from afar - and big dogs had always been her preference, however, she never imagined in a million years that she’d be standing her with a Saint Bernard, walking it - or more so being walked herself - in a park like this. It had been a quiet morning in the restaurant that day, and while she’d only partially been listening to the conversation one of her regular customers Betty had been having on the phone, before she’d really had the chance to protest, Reyna had been asked to dog sit while Betty went out of town for the weekend. The responsibility was a lot - Betty loved this dog as much as she loved probably anything else in the world - but the money had been good so Reyna couldn’t refuse. However, she didn’t expect to be so sore from walking a dog. She took a moment to pause, trying to keep the dog at her side as she lifted the water bottle, taking a sip, just as the same time that Colby - the saint Bernard - had decided to take off in the direction of another dog, tail wagging quickly. Chasing after him, Reyna slowed only once she approached him, sighing as she exhaled. “Sorry.” her voice was quiet as she tried to catch her breath. “As far as I know he doesn’t bite, he just loves other dogs.” she nodded, pointing towards the dog the other was walking. “I was just taking a break from a walk and ended up running. Ironic, huh?”

Bowie was a large boy, and anyone who came in contact with him could see that from a mile away, he was one hundred and fifteen pounds of love (and so much hair), but he was also Imani’s best friend, they went everywhere together, he was practically her shadow.  Her family owned a lot of land in Rolling Hills, enough so that taking the dog to the park was technically unnecessary, but a nice little break from the norm when she had to run into town to run errands.  Today she was out to get some more yarn for her current crochet project, as well as to pick up some medicines and other things they couldn’t make or grow at home, and so she leashed Bowie up and decided to give them both a little day on the town. For Imani, that was sort of rare, spending her time in town was the last thing she ever really wanted to do, over stimulation laid at every corner,  with the troubadour busking somewhere, hoards of teens laughing at the ice cream shop after school whose eyes she could feel on her when she passed, the noises from stores, the cold wind hitting her face, sometimes it could be too much.  But today, she was taking things one step at a time. The fabric store was first, walking out with a tote bag stuffed with her favorite yarns, a stop at the general store and the pharmacy and finally lunch in the park before resuming their walking back, headphones over her ears but no music playing, she mostly used them to block out most of the noise around her. She’s staring at her feet, crunching a dead leaf underneath her boot when suddenly, instead of Bowie’s four legs in front of her, there’s an extra, excited, set. Curious, but nervous, she tugs on her dogs leash, just in case, only to come face to face with a saint bernard, as well as the person walking it. “As far as you know?” she asks, eyebrow-raising, confused, she shrugs “Bowie loves other dogs, and also loves pulling me along the trail on a good weather day," she tries to make small talk, smiling hopefully not as awkwardly as she feels.

Imani wasn’t one for group activities, truthfully. She preffered her solitude, her select few friends, or perhaps even just her animals and her books, but after much coaxing from her mother, and the tempation of her comfort foods making an appearance, she was convinvced to attend the festival.  She was eating a sugar plum tart from Soliel, something she could usually only get during the holiday season, walking along, singing softly along to the orchestras rendition of I’ll Be Home For Christmas. It was rare she was ever this social. Maybe the holidays brought out the best in her.   She wasn’t one to share food, but after another bite she let out a soft, satisfied groan “You know, I’m much more of a summer girl generally, but I swear I wait all year for these tarts. You have to try it! Here,” she holds it out to the other “Just one bite.”
