Hi!! If you're still taking drabble prompts I'd love one of Danny welcoming Ich home after a long trip
I love your work (I reread ganz besonders at least twice a month lol) so I'm super happy that you're getting back into writing!
ahhh thank you that warms my heart <3 i'm so happy to be getting back into it too! (and hopefully updating ganz unerwartet soon).
this is post book-canon where Maxim is still alive, though Danny and Ich have feelings for each other.
She still does not think of her as the lady of the house, not really. But every time she says "Welcome home, Madam," it feels a little less false passing from her lips. Images of Rebecca don't flash in her mind nearly as often.
In company, in front of the staff, she calls her "Mrs. de Winter," and that, at least, feels right. She is more Mrs. de Winter than Rebecca ever was; her devotion to Maxim strengthened even more now in the months since the trial. It rivals, at times, Danny's devotion to her.
(It certainly rivals Rebecca's devotion to Danny, though Danny does try her damndest not to think this.)
Strongest, though, is Mrs. de Winter's devotion to her. The soft way she calls her "Danny," the way she first kisses her after she returns from her trips, soft and secretive. Danny does not worry about Mrs. de Winter's trips to London the way she did Rebecca's; finds herself anticipating Mrs. de Winter's return far more eagerly.
To the staff, there is nothing amiss, of course. Mrs. Danvers welcomes Mrs. de Winter home with all the decorum her profession requires; takes her coat and gloves the way she always has. They do not see the private smile that crosses Mrs. de Winter's face as Danny takes the gloves from her hands; they do not catch the way their fingers brush, just once, the way they did the day Mrs. de Winter entered Manderley for the first time.
Of course, no one sees the way Danny scarcely has time to put the coat down in Mrs. de Winter's room before the lady of the house is on her, kissing her breathlessly, the rest of their clothing discarded just as quickly. They do not see the depth of Danny's devotion and duty to her mistress, the way she lavishes attention over her body for hours.
It is the only places Danny has ever truly felt at home.
