HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE
As a "seasoned" gay (not really, I'm only 20), I am spending my first Pride out of my seriously homophobic house. And as someone who has actually escaped and made it to my wonderful (but tiny) apartment with my soon-to-be fiancé, I have a couple of messages.
It's closer than you think. The perfect gay fairytale you have dreamt up is just on the horizon, even when it doesn't feel like it. I have felt like giving up so many times, but if I had, I wouldn't have lived through the best time of my life (literally 6 months after). Do not give up, the beginning of your redemption ark is soon!!!
It's definitely worth it. All this hard work you're doing right now will lead to the life you want or need. Getting through the now is preparing you for the wonderful things ahead of you. If that's adopting a bunch of cats or finding a way to have kids, or even just work, work, work. It is worth it, because you have started working for it, and you will appreciate it so much. I promise.
You are not alone. I grew up (and still live) in the bible belt. I genuinely didn't think anyone felt the way I felt about my gender or sexuality, and it was awful. When I found people on the internet, I realized I wasn't alone. And then, when I finally began talking to people my age, I realized a lot more people are understanding. And some even felt and feel what I feel. Wherever you are, whether it's the bible belt or the big cities throughout the world. You are not alone.
SOOOOO happy pride, everyone. Keep fighting. Keep winning. And keep being gay.
Thank you for this post. I need to be reminded this.
