This low-angle satellite image from this afternoon shows the Franklin Fire that is still burning in the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu, California. The fire has aggressively burned over 2,800 acres since it started yesterday evening and has been driven by fierce Santa Ana winds. Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for an area impacting 6,000 people and threatening more than 2,000 structures (including Pepperdine University).

An incredible new view of Jupiter, captured by NASA’s Juno Spacecraft on October 27. Orbiting the gas giant since 2016, Juno seeks to answer questions about the origin and evolution of Jupiter, its moons, our solar system and beyond. From 1.7 billion miles away, it has discovered vast storms around Jupiter’s poles, active volcanos and lakes of lava on the moon Io, and more. It is scheduled to continue surveying the planet until September 2025.

Grammichele is located on the island of Sicily in southern Italy. The town was constructed in 1693 with a distinctive hexagonal street plan after an earthquake destroyed the nearby old town of Occhialà. Grammichele is home to about 13,000 people.
