Welcome to Erestober!
What is Erestober? Erestober is an event running from October 1st - 31st 2025, to encourage any and all fanworks featuring Erestor, chief counsellor of Imladris!
Why is Erestober? Because I saw an event called "Erostober," misread the name, and then got disappointed when I realised it wasn't about Erestor, so, here we are.
How do I participate in Erestober? You simply create fanwork - fic, art, meta, anything you can think of - featuring Erestor and post it during the month! For further information regarding permissible content, see the rules & guidelines below. No sign-up of any kind required.
How do I post my creations? If you want your submission to be shared on this blog, simply post it on tumblr and tag @erestober. There is an Ao3 collection as well where you can post submissions, and if you do not want to post on tumblr or would prefer to remain anonymous, you can post it on a platform of your choice and send an ask with the link to this blog and I will share it!
Do I have to create something every day? No! Create as much or as little as you like.
Will there be prompts? Yes! Here they are.
Do I have to follow the prompts? Not at all! The prompts are meant as inspiration only, and if they don’t inspire you, feel free to do something else. And you do not have to follow the prompts in order, either - swapping or combining prompts is perfectly fine, as is ignoring them altogether.
Can I combine creations for Erestober with other events, such as Inktober? Sure!
Can I post something I've created in the past? Go for it! The more Erestor the merrier.
Can I post unfinished creations? Absolutely! Tolkien had Unfinished Tales, and so can we.
Can I post creations for Erestober after the event is over? Sure! Just keep in mind that I likely won't be checking the blog daily after the month is over, so it might be a while until your submission gets shared - if it hasn't been reblogged after a few weeks, feel free to send a DM or ask to @maglor-my-beloved.
What about dark or NSFW creations? Dark and NSFW content is welcome, as long as it is appropriately tagged. If you do not want to see such content, it is up to you to take the necessary steps to curate your experience - harassment of creators will not be tolerated.
Why have you not reblogged my post? Tumblr's notifications can be unreliable, so if you used the tag #erestober and tagged this blog (@erestober) and your post has not been reblogged after 24h, please send an ask or DM with the link and I will share it!
Rules & Guidelines
Please be kind and respectful! Hate and bigotry will not be tolerated.
Be respectful of other people's ideas/headcanons/interpretations - it is up to you to curate your own experience, don't like, don't read.
NSFW and dark content is welcome, but please use the appropriate warnings & tags and put graphic content under a cut.
Any form of fanwork is welcome - fics, art, meta, playlists, moodboards, and whatever else you come up with, as long as it features Erestor. AI generated work is not permitted!
Use the tag #erestober on your event submissions and/or tag this blog (@erestober) directly - I will try to reblog everything, but tumblr is notoriously difficult, so if your post has not been reblogged after 24h, feel free to send an ask or DM with the link!
Feel free to send any further questions, comments or suggestions as an ask to this blog! Prompt suggestions very welcome

Hi!
I loved the event last year. Are you planing on running the Imladris Week again this year?
Hello!
I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed Imladris Week and would like it to return! I've been meaning to run a poll to see how many people are interested - thanks for the reminder to do that!
FAREWELL!
As of today, Imladris Week 2024 is over. Many, many thanks to everyone who participated and created all the incredible art and fic - make sure to check out everyone's creations under the #imladrisweek tag or in the Ao3 collection! I had a lovely time, and I hope you all did as well!
(And remember, you can still post your contributions to this event! The Ao3 collection stays open, and I will check the notifications of this blog occasionally - if your submission hasn't been reblogged after a week or so, please send an Ask or DM to @maglor-my-beloved)

Summary: For years, people had said that Imladris, or Rivendell in the common tongue, was a wonderful place. It was peaceful, it was beautiful, it was welcoming—a perfectly lovely place to be. What many of them neglected to mention was that despite the hospitality of its residents and the beauty of the valley, Imladris was rather…unnatural. (A Castle Glower AU)
------
When I was looking through the prompts for Imladris Week a couple of months ago, I read “Imladris as a place” (for Day 4) and then “the magic of Vilya” (for Day 7) and I instantly came up with the idea for an Imladris Castle Glower AU.
For any Tolkien fans who know the Castle Glower/Tuesdays at the Castle series, you’ll immediately pick up on what I’m thinking: Imladris functioning like the Castle.
For any Tolkien fans who don’t know the Castle Glower series, or who vaguely remembers Tuesdays at the Castle as a book they read in their childhood and then forgot about, here’s all you need to know for this AU: Castle Glower is a magical castle that moves its rooms around every Tuesday.
And if you’re a Tuesdays at the Castle fan but haven’t read The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings—what are you doing? Go read that pronto :P (But also, this fic is definitely readable without the prior knowledge of Tolkien’s works, so I wouldn’t let that stop you. It’s just more fun if you have read any Tolkien books, or even watched any of the Middle-Earth movies.)
I had SO much fun coming up with the idea for this story and working out the details! I might end up writing more or sharing some of the snippets and ideas I wrote down for things that would happen in this AU version of Imladris, because I did have some thoughts.

Elrond in the flower garden at Imladris, for @imladrisweek.
Some notes:
The garden has its own odd ecosystem: plants bloom at odd times, summer flowers linger long after the world without has turned to autumn, and certain plants thrive there that would not ordinarily survive the cold winters of northern Eriador. Hence hollyhocks, globe thistle, lavender, clematis, and (most peculiarly) wisteria are all in bloom in early autumn.
As the house and gardens are built into the sides of the valley, terraced gardens suited the landscape best. The terraces are accessed by sloping walkways rather than steps, ensuring they are accessible to Imladris' disabled inhabitants and those who come to Elrond for healing.
The oak-tree fountain is (irl) inspired by the work of sculptor Mehrdad Tafreshi. In-universe, similar fountains existed in Menegroth and Nargothrond, the work of a Sindarin coppersmith who was later well-known in Eregion for crafting complex, increasingly fantastical representations of plants and animals (both real and imagined). He called them 'imperishable forests'. Much of his work decorated the squares and buildings of Ost-in-Edhil. He was killed in the sacking of that city; the tree in Elrond's garden was made by one of his pupils.
If you zoom in on the top terrace, you will find statues of Luthien dancing and Elwing with a seabird.
Elrond's outfit was inspired by a 1910 House of Worth tea gown.
It took Elrond several centuries to admit that he needed reading-glasses (quirks of being a Peredhel). The arms of his glasses don't hook over the ear, so they're tied in place with cord.
This is possibly the most time-consuming piece of art I've ever done, clocking in at seventy-two and a half hours; I just barely finished it in time! Please please enlarge to look at all the tiny details :)
Come back to the Valley

Also, Happy Hobbit Day. There are no Hobbits here, but both Elrond and Aragorn enjoyed (suffered) plenty of time with them, especially Bilbo.

Imladris, with its millennia of history and plenty of interesting inhabitants, contains so much more than one week of prompts could ever encompass. What do you love most about Elrond’s hidden Valley? What thoughts, headcanons and wild ideas do you harbour of the Last Homely House?

Elrond’s Family Dinner
by Eowyn7023
Summary:
It’s Morgoth into the Void Day, which everyone in Middle Earth — even Sauron — celebrates. Elrond invites his Maia and Noldor family for dinner, to celebrate Morgoth into the Void Day. The place: Imladris. The time: the Second Age, sometime after the destruction of Eregion and Númenor but before the battle of the Last Alliance.

It is the sixth day of Imladris Week! Today's prompt is The People of Imladris - Elrond and his Family | Background Characters: Erestor, Glorfindel, Lindir and Others | Original Characters
Of course a house is nothing without the people that live there. We know and love Elrond, Lord and founder of Imladris, his family and all those background characters that fandom has lifted from the shadows, but certainly the Last Homely House has space for more. On this day all inhabitants of Imladris have a chance to shine; from high Lord over fan-favourite counsellor to your own darling OCs.
As always, the prompts are there for inspiration, and you can use them however you wish - or not at all!

Written for @imladrisweek’s Day 4 prompt: Imladris as a Place!
Bliss and Beauty Undiminished
Day 5 - Culture
When Bilbo first visited Imladris, accompanied by thirteen dwarves and a wizard, he had thought it a beautiful place, but no more than that, and returning home he had been too preoccupied with grief to have any mind for beauty.
It is not until he returns, many years older and weary, to find a peaceful home among the Elves, seeking ancient tales and warm hospitality, that he sees Imladris for what she truly is, sees her smiling in the sunlight, her head in Elrond’s lap as they braid her hair, sees them dancing together in the glade beneath the stars.
