(LluoBiinghe) Confusion builds in the young boy as obsidian hues take in the appearance of the man that had approached him, puffy and stained red from only just recently shed tears. Luo Binghe doesn’t recall ever seeing a face like this during his trips to town, prior numerous visits having helped him with remembering others. It doesn’t matter too much, however, as a small hand reaches over from its earlier place on the deceased woman’s body to his robes. “Mister.. Can mister please help me..?”
@lluobiinghe
Ever since the trap that had been set for him and his beloved the demon king had been loathe to expose himself to humans. It was for that reason alone he had not approached the half-blooded child despite his desire to get close, hoping the little one would have better odds raised among their kind.
It had taken him a long time to find the child after escaping the attempt to seal him away. The grief of stumbling upon Su Xiyan’s body had left him with the assumption their child had died as well -- it was only later, in a moment of clarity, that he’d thought to look.
Setting his disgust aside he immediately crossed the distance between himself and the child before kneeling down.
“That is what this mister is here for. I took too long to come, but I am here to protect you now.”
forlorninquiry:
Though Lan Wangji is internally amused at the rather self-aware way that Jingyi compares himself to her, he does not smile. He is patiently listening to him recount the night hunt and when he hears how he would describe her determination, his eyebrows twitch but out of surprise.
Jingyi must certainly be paying close attention to this female disciple if he has noticed these certain qualities about her. Additionally, she must have been quite worthy of catching his attention. He wouldn’t ask it out loud, but he was a little curious to know which of the female Lan sect disciples she was - but it wasn’t critical and so he didn’t ask.
“Do not be anyone to her but yourself.”
He’d been told by many people that he did not give good advice - but they were seeking validation and affirmation… and why they might have sought it from him of all people he never knew. Wei Wuxian told him more than once that he appreciated and needed his honesty. He was not sure Jingyi was one who would feel comforted by such simple, straightforward words.
“If she were to believe that Lan Jingyi was someone who he truly was not, then she will not know you as you truly are. Always be yourself.”
After a moment, Lan Wangji critically raises one black eyebrow. Even if the words he just said would be something his young cousin had already heard, an idea occurred to him: perhaps there was something he could do for him. His voice lowers fractionally. “If you wish to be closer to her skill level, there is something I can do to assist you if you desire it.”
The teen crosses his arms with a slight pout. Of course he understood one couldn’t get someone’s attention and keep it via deceitful methods, but it seemed like an impossible task to get anyone’s attention the way he was either. He frowns as he thinks this over, especially the offer for help, then finally nods his head with resolve.
“I should just study harder then, right? I can already recite the sect rules backwards and write them blindfolded if I have to, but maybe if I get in less trouble...”
Wasn’t that going against his nature though? It would definitely come across as fake. He reaches up to ruffle his hair in frustration, though he’s careful to not disturb his headband too greatly in the act.
“Aggggh! I can’t do that because it wouldn’t be honest! Hmph...! Maybe if I get better with the sword and just show her up. She’ll have to pay attention if I beat her at something, right?” That’s it! He could definitely pursue the ‘rivals to lovers’ style of story if he put his mind to it!
“Can you teach me!? I’ll practice every day if it means improving! I-I mean I do, I don’t slack off, but I can do better!”
forlorninquiry:
He is patiently waiting for Jingyi to compose his words together, even though he stumbles through it. His start-and-stop habit was nothing new, but Lan Wangji wonders for a moment what it was that he carried that he protected like this.
The moment he asked for Wei Wuxian to be left out of the matter, and when he said that there was a girl… He understood. At that, something in his expression flickered and softened. When had his cousin grown enough to have his attention pulled by another? Just a few years ago he was all limbs like a colt and fumbling through his daily activities.
A part of him thinks on his uncle, and wonders what he must have thought when he notices these things in the younger generations.
“Senior Wei will not hear of this,” he promises, his eyebrows lifting just slightly in a mixture of surprise at his confession and at how heartfelt his sincerity for his own feelings were. At the least, he seemed to be taking his own feelings seriously, even if he was uncertain in how to navigate them.
When did he know he liked Wei Wuxian, or even more mysteriously, how did he know? It was certainly so long ago that the memories were at risk of altering due to the simple age of time. Was it in the cave of the Xuanwu of Slaughter, when he pulled him from the water and cared for him in the aftermath? Or was it well before then? … Could it even have been when he was still the bane of Lan Qiren’s patience as a student?
The junior cannot see it because his face is turned towards the floor, but the smallest of smiles curl at Lan Wangji’s lips as he recalls all the times he and Wei Wuxian intersected, for better or for worse, when he was a little younger than Jingyi was now.
“One cannot be certain at first, before you truly understand them,” he begins, faint smile fading from his expression. “Come to understand her, and if she is inclined… Unsure of what to say next - after all, no one had given him advice in such matters, nor had he ever asked for it - he asks the younger cousin a question. Sometimes clarity came when wording out loud situations.
“What do you like about her?”
Jingyi finds himself leaning forward as he listens, nodding in gratitude as Lan Wangji promises he will not tell his husband. It was not as though Jingyi disliked Wei Wuxian -- no, he quite respected the man! -- but he was not ready for any sort of interference and the former Yiling Patriarch had quite the habit of interfering in the business of others even when he did not mean to.
When asked what exactly he likes, Lan Jingyi brings his hand to his chin and stares off in a brief moment of thought.
“Well... She’s graceful but she’s also willful. She never gets in trouble the same way I do, but you can see beneath her eyes there’s a flame ready to engulf any obstacle in her path. Once, we met when our groups intersected on a night hunt.”
His gaze distant as he recounts that time when he, Shizui and Jin Ling had crossed path with one of the girls’ groups. There had been some level of bickering between the two sets of teens and in the end they’d decided the target would simply go to whoever caught it first.
“...we chased after the monster the best we could but in the end she was the one to pin it with her sword.” Above all of them gathered there she had made the biggest impression, one that had stuck with him the entire time. The cool and level-headed figure of a young woman whose light attracted him like a moth to a flame.
“But.. uhm, aside from that I don’t think she actually acknowledges I exist. I mean, we spoke! Yet I don’t think I’m ... erm, ugh. I hate to admit it, but I’m definitely not on her level! I’m always getting in trouble and Jin Ling’s right when he says I’m boorish. I have no idea how to talk to someone like that!”
xueyaang:
He counts the seconds that pass by as the customer stares at the final rack leading up to the check-out counter. Xue Yang watches him closely, and realizes that the fucker wasn’t even looking, he was just staring off into space.
He really is fucking testing me, he thinks to himself while drumming the pads of his fingers on the counter to a rhythm in his head.
“Perhaps another time, yeah!” he agrees with a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes and the false cheer in his voice more evident than it was before. Tapping at the tablet screen at the checkout counter, he totals the purchase and then flips the tablet around so that the other man can see the total, pay, and choose the method of receipt himself.
“Your total is shown below.”
“Why thank you!” Huaisang’s tone is ever chipper as he pulls his own stylus from his handbag rather than touching the screen directly. His brother had told him it’s rather obnoxious and after some thought he would have to agree -- but putting on the air of an obnoxious rich boy was fun when he knew it would get under someone’s skin.
With a couple taps he confirms the total and payment, then hovers his smart watch near the nfc reader to pay. It’s rather painless compared to how long he took getting to the counter and messing with the store clerk but he didn’t want to push too far. Everyone had a limit and the last thing he wanted was to have to explain to his brother why he got assaulted at a candy store.
“Thank you so much! I’m sure he’ll love them. Oh, do you happen to have a gift bag?”
@forlorninquiry from [x]
“Well...”
The youngster starts, now that he’s confirmed they’re somewhere quieter and alone. Hanguang-jun was definitely the best person to ask about this, he figured. After all, how else would he figure things out? He couldn’t ask Jin Ling or Shizui; even though he doubted Shizui would tease him it just didn’t feel right.
“The thing is.. I might...” He takes a deep breath and fingers grasp at his robes. “This is harder than I thought! Look, you can’t tell senior Wei either, okay? But I think there’s... well, there’s this girl and. Well, how did you know you liked senior Wei? Were there any signs? I can’t tell if I like her or... well, like her.”
By the end of his question the teen’s cheeks are bright red and his gaze has lowered down to Lan Wangji’s feet.
Yeah, totally nailed it.
xueyaang:
He’d pointed to a cherry mash when the customer interjected with the comment about cherry-flavored candy. Internally, he had to agree - real fruit was always superior to imitated flavor. He tapped his index finger to his chin as he thought out loud.
“Hm, looks like we’ve been picked clean on the dark chocolate covered cherries. Someone who came in before we closed who knew what they wanted got the last half dozen pretty quick.” A charming smile spreads across his face. “We have chocolate covered strawberries, the ever popular sea salt caramels… even some chocolate covered espresso beans. How do you think he’d like chocolate covered nuts?”
“Oh that’s right, you’re already closed. I’m so sorry for the imposition!” No, no he’s not. Not with that sass. He smiles cheerfully in return as they look over the various boxes on display. “You know, he really isn’t fond of nuts at all. Something about them ruining the taste - I’m not sure what that means, I am quite fond of them. Hazelnuts especially. Oh, oops.. I’m rambling on again, sorry!”
He cups his cheek with one hand in mock contemplation before pointing. “Yes, I think the chocolate covered espresso beans would be perfect for him. Then I will get right out of your hair so you can finish closing up. You’ve been so kind, accommodating little ol’ me.”
As they head up towards the til he stops, staring off at the impulse buy racks for a good minute just for good measure, making a show of spacing out before hurrying over. “Ah, my bad~! That’s right, I should look around more at a better time!”
xueyaang:
He shifts weight on his feet behind the counter and presses his fingertips into the counter while watching the other man shop around even slowly and looking completely jovial about it.
Too bad there was a camera in the shop - kicking out a customer wasn’t worth potentially losing his job. It wasn’t like he was going home, anyway - he still had to go in the back and help prepare tonight’s batch of candy for the next day.
This fucker is testing me.
“Nope! Just me,” he replies cheerily, leaning forward slightly so he can watch what the customer was looking at. “Candy for yourself, or a gift?”
“Oh, i-it’s for my big brother. He’s just been promoted at his job , so I thought I’d get him a gift. He’s really quite fussy though, he prefers dark chocolates, so it normally takes me quite a long time to pick something out..”
He trails off and gives the salesman a warm smile. It was the truth but now that the brat (he assumed a college kid or maybe even a highschooler) had been rude to him, he was going to make his next few minutes absolute hell.
“I don’t know what would be the best to get him... Oh, but not that kind, he doesn’t like cherry if it’s artificial, has to be real cherry or he complains it tastes like cough medicine.”
“….. Listen, if you’re going to buy something then hurry the hell up. We closed to customers five minutes ago.”
“Is that how everyone here talks to customers?” The man frowns, then decides to take a little more time picking out the chocolates he was going to buy for his brother’s birthday. He smiles innocently and hums to himself, wondering if it would be too mean to pull the ‘I want to speak to your manager’ card.
He decides he will wait and see how this goes. He is in no rush.
Bio :: Lan Jingyi
Age: ?? (no official age, probably around 17) Gender: Male Height: 168cm Sexuality: Straight (possibly bi-curious, but so far has only been attracted to girls)
For the purposes of this blog I’ve decided he’s a second cousin to the Twin Jades. Being one of the few Lan sect kids around the same age as Lan Sizhui, he quickly became close friends with the more well-mannered boy. Knowing Sizhui was adopted and came to them with a bad fever, the young Jingyi took it upon him to protect the other boy and developed a brotherly bond with him.
He has come to admire Lan Wangji quite a bit and generally trusts his judgement when it comes to other people.
Jingyi is also very strong-headed and although he acts strict and defends sect rules, he’s pretty good at breaking them himself due to his temper and rash behaviour. He’s quick to speak his mind where other members of the sect might remain quiet and is prone to getting in trouble for raising his voice or stampeding through the halls.
He is very well accustomed with the sect rules because of this.
Above all he follows his heart and his own sense of justice before the sect’s rules and his upbringing, partly because of the example others such as Lan Wangji have set and partly because he hates injustice of any kind. He wishes he could be a more proper disciple and set a perfect example, but his heart’s perfect example is a person who doesn’t compromise when they see something wrong.
Even so, due to his age he is still unrefined and prone to the same childish outbursts he criticizes others for.
“Remember! If you have a crush on someone you should act upon it! And it’s in bad taste to confess in public if you’re going to make everyone feel akward!”
He has to keep the younger disciples educated on this matter. There will be no tip-toeing around as long as Jingyi is a senior!

Tianlang-Jun
___________
₪ — “ I see… ”
It wasn’t that Tianlang-Jun willingly refused to find him, but that he had been physically incapable of it. The thought of it causes Luo Binghe to bring a hand to his face, trying to force back the urge to shed a tear. It’s difficult, but the young demon somehow manages to resist and keep face after remembering how he may be mocked for showing that weaker, more childish side of him. Yet it also couldn’t be helped, knowing he was not nearly as unwanted as most made him believe to be.
“ Do not look so gloomy, it does not suit you.. Unless you want your face to freeze over like that. ” The words come off coldly, despite every intention to lighten the atmosphere a little. Seeing his father in such a damaged state didn’t make him feel any better about how the two had been around one another, but unless one really took the time to observe the brief flicker in his eyes, anyone who was around him would never know his true feelings unless they were admitted openly. All he can do is stare for a moment, before allowing a hand to rest on the shoulder that does not look ready to fall off. “ … You should eat. The food I prepared will grow cold, and I refuse to allow you to starve. ”
“ … It won’t be an easy process for either of us, I’m already aware of such. So much has happened between us that it is difficult to ignore. ” Binghe almost has to force his words out, as much as he genuinely means them deep down. He still doesn’t easily trust anyone, not after the experiences he’s had, but a small grudge like this is not an excuse to at least try to rebuild what could have been. “ But holding grudges does no one any good. ”
Shizun..
As if it were some automatic response, the mention of his husband easily brings a smile to his face. The fact that Tianlang-Jun had even found himself taking some form of liking to the peak lord felt reassuring, even when knowing what occurred so long ago. “ I do not know where I would be, if husband had not been by my side. A life without him is not a life I would like to live. ” It’s strange, admitting this sort of vulnerability to a man who had been all but absent from his life until recently. Perhaps the gap between them had already mended enough for him to feel comfortable to do so? “ To say he is kind would be an understatement. He’s been beside me, even while knowing I’ve done so much wrong. I doubt I could ever properly express how much he means to me, or how thankful I am that he’s been so patient with me. ”
“How strange it is to hear you speaking so rationally.”
Tianlang-Jun allows himself to muse out loud as he takes up the utensils to eat the food that Binghe had brought him. It isn’t bad at all; in fact it’s quite delicious and unexpectedly so. When had Binghe learned to cook like this?
He figured he could ask later.
“Either way... so long as you are willing to meet me halfway we should be able to make it work.”
A soft shrug and he sets down his chopsticks. It’s enough that Binghe was willing to sit and listen for now, so he’ll savor this food and eat the rest later, even if it would grow cold by then. With his nephew presently incapacitated and stuck in the form of a simple snake, there was no one who cooked him such well-made meals. That was perhaps another thing to ask about later: cooking lessons.
“Still... that you also fell in love with a human. Hah, you truly are my son.”
lluobiinghe:
“I was locked away beneath the mountain. It was not until quite recently Zhuzhi-Lang was able to help me create this body.” This body that was rotting away still, yet it was growing better with the day. So long as he worked on his cultivation it would be only a matter of time before he recovered enough to leave.
His ever regal appearance was somber as Luo Binghe slinks over to sit beside him. It’s a difficult sight, this person so desperate for approval that the few words of affection Tianlang-Jun had uttered had been enough to make his legs weak.
“I had no body or means to leave my confinement. Only my hatred.” A heavy sigh , one uncharacteristic of the former demon lord.
“Now, if you believe we can lay grudges to rest...” A soft chuckle. Ah, demons letting go of anger... it was such a tenuous, uncertain thing. “It would seem we are both exemplary demons when it comes to such matters. A shame, for I didn’t wish to grow to hate humans. Even now, I am quite fond of them.
You have found a good person in master Shen. That man truly treasures you.”

_________________
₪ — It is still too baffling to him that he had set foot here like this, especially so when he easily recalls all the past incidents with his ‘father’. Tianlang-Jun’s realm was an unsettling domain, one that always brought the younger demon on edge and ready to strike should the need have risen. Yet, as much as he hated this location, and the past actions of the one who owned it, Luo Binghe found it difficult to truly hate the man that he had forced himself to face.
Tianlang-Jun was a man he oft tried not to affiliate with, even the thought of being related to such a man made his head spin. But.. He knew that denying their relation didn’t change his lineage in any means. Yet, a father was not a father, if he refused to see his ‘son’ at all for so many years.
“ … Wait for what? To be stabbed in the back? ” His words come more from caution than actual accusations, and does nothing to help him relax. His fist clenches, brows furrowed, but his feet still keep him in his place by the doorway. Binghe doesn’t know why he’s obeying the demon lord’s request to stay, he has every right to leave if he wanted to, yet for whatever reason, he’s decided against it. “ Say it quickly, Shizun is waiting for his disciple to return to him. ”
He says that, yet his body tenses up when he hears what the elder has to say. Apologize? It almost felt as unreal as the fact he’d come to visit, but he says nothing of what goes through his mind. “ … I won’t accept it if you are not genuine about it, Tianlang-Jun. ” There’s a pause, as he finds himself hesitantly turning to face the one that called out to him, unmoved by the smile that he was given once he had. Luo Binghe would never admit how every glance at his ‘father’ only reminded him of his mother, nor the feelings that followed the memories and what few explanations he’d gotten of her.
“ Misunderstandings…? I believe I understood enough to know what you feel towards me. There is little need for explanation. ”
Luo Binghe’s defensive countenance was entirely expected, leaving Tianlang-Jun in an awkward position of having to be the first to extend an olive branch. There were many things he wanted to say, to ask about, to know about Su Xiyan’s son, yet knowing where to start was troublesome.
“Young master Shen won’t mind waiting just a little while longer. Although I should make the time to properly thank him later.”
With a soft grunt, the demon lord sits leaning forward to judge Binghe’s expression and draws a deep breath.
“There are many misunderstandings, enough I do not know quite where to start... you may not recall this, as the Xin Mo sword was corrupting your mind back then, but it was your shizun who told me the truth”
His mistrust towards humanity had still been at its peak at that moment yet even back then he felt he could trust that Shen Qingqiu spoke the truth. There was simply no motive for the man to lie about these things.
“I had thought your mother had betrayed me, that she had never loved me, that she killed our child.” Hands clench the loose robes he wears, eyebrows furrowing as if just mentioning that day drove his heart into turmoil once more.
“The day they ambushed me I had no idea that you had survived. I thought your mother hated us... hated you. What could I do but grow to hate humans? By the time Zhuzhi-Lang caught sight of you and I learned of your existence I could only wonder if you were truly mine.”
A heavy sigh and he pushes his shoulders back, sits upright to look the half-demon in the eyes once more. As difficult as it was to admit how wrong he had been things would only be worse if he did not honestly speak with Binghe. The world of miscommunication for them had to be closed, even if only a little, and he had to take advantage of Binghe’s momentary silence so he could spit it all out.
“Back then, I was afraid to face you! I still am... A-yan gave her life to make sure you had a chance in this world and yet I could do nothing.
I know you despise me Luo Binghe, but you were a child we both wanted very much. Even if I could not be the one to raise you it fills my heart with joy to know you survived.”
Wen Ning had never been an angry person.
Sure, he had his moments - anyone did - but for the most part they were small moments of self-loathing. Not being good enough, not confident enough, too timid to show his talent in front of others. And of course there were the others, how they’d mock him for his weakness and timid nature, things not suited to the Wen sect. He never did like them very much.
Even so, he never knew hatred. It wasn’t until he stood among the flames of Lotus Pier that he learned such a visceral emotion, one interwoven so deeply with disgust. To see death all around him, cruel and senseless, and to be unable to speak out against it...
When alerted to the two young men peering over the wall behind him his heart swells with relief that Wei Wuxian survived -- until it sinks a moment later when he quickly imagines the man’s body twisted and bloody, tossed into a heap among his peers, never to receive a proper burial.
How disgusting...
