this is often because when you’ve submitted something (like fanfiction to ao3) it will be in a different font, size and framing than in your word processor. The text will look different in the new environment so your brain stops skipping what looks familiar (like a typo that has been there since the beginning).

So, tip: revise your work in a different font and size. I guarantee you’ll catch more typos and mistakes than otherwise.

little art tip: the position of the ears on a human does a lot to communicate the angle of the head—whether it’s tilted forward or back.

tilted back with the chin forward, the ears are going to look lower down, closer to the mouth; tilted forward with the chin tucked, the ears look higher up & more in line with the eyes.

Every post I see about this election reads like a reaction to a terrorist attack. That’s what this feels like, except the attack is dealt out in stages, step by step, and we don’t know if the next attacker is our neighbor or our friend or the ones we’ve known have hated us all along. 

These attacks come not only in the form of unspoken hateful thoughts, voiced words, or votes…they are real physical attacks happening to people and spaces all over this country that were endorsed by the rhetoric of the president white america elected. Swastikas in Philly. ‘Trump’ scrawled on the door of a muslim prayer space here at NYU. Hijabs being pulled off of muslim women, black children being told to sit at the back of the bus, young people of color being told to come back from they came from when this is the only home they’ve ever known. 

We cry because we’re traumatized. We protest because we refuse to let this world persist unchecked. We sew our frayed souls back up and use our bodies and our voices as weapons against hate because we believe love is stronger. 

The attacks keep coming…and they’ve always been there…but this time they aren’t something we can dismiss as being the product of extremists, or lone wolves. Millions of people endorsed these attacks with their votes. A political party fueled these attacks with their pursuit of the highest office for their candidate. The President-Elect himself encouraged violence over and over and over again. I don’t trust him or his voters to stop now. 

I do not believe it is our responsibility to bring the country together. We can come together when the other side stops the attacks, when they recognize our pain, when they acknowledge our humanity and our marginalization and our suffering. There is pain on their side too. I want to help heal that. But first, I gotta take care of my own. 

Because the attacks aren’t stopping, and I won’t negotiate the civil and human rights of myself and those I love with terrorists.
