Bart explaining to Ryley what each toxic plant does:
"that one knocked me out for a day and a half, that one made me smell colors and taste shapes, and that one made me think I was meeting God. Which says something because I don't believe in a capital-G god."
"...Why? Do you know this? Again?"
"Well we needed Marguerit alive and Father was hesitant to eat glowing plants."
This user wants to go into Subnautica 2 blind. Please do not say anything Subnautica 2 related on this post, even if the post contradicts new lore
Fun fact! Every version of "you are immune to The Game" propaganda posts are just elaborate posts to ease your loss to the game and make you like it actually! You still lost, it's just now you think you like it!
Happy losing The Game!
One of the things I deeply love about the collector leviathan (my current favourite creature in Subnatica 2) is how your first encounter with one pans out. You’re usually panicking a bit because of the foreboding music and just how fucking huge it is, but once you get past that and get brave enough to explore, you can reach the other side. But a MASSIVE part of my enjoyment of it was getting in the mindset of ‘If I was a prey animal to this creature, what would I do to evade it?” because Subnautica 2 already has you in that mindset, observing the creatures behaviour and how you can survive them with just your wits. There’s no special gear to slow them down or kill them.
There’s these large, flat, platform-like rocks littered around the crevasse where the leviathan is, and abandoned shells of creatures left in the open. The game seemed to be communicating something clear, if you’re in the open, you’re in danger. So I hid myself underneath the platforms and was delighted to find out it just couldn’t reach me. I could hop between the platforms and get safely to the other side. It was genuinely so fun feeling like I’d outsmarted it.
Another fun thing is that I think it’s more likely to aggro onto you if you’re in the tadpole, and doubly so if you flash your lights at it. When I’ve been swimming freely around it I find it takes a lot longer for it to notice me, but much faster if I’m in the tadpole and flash my lights, which is what I used to lure it over to the rocks and scan it.
From the databank entry I think I can reliably say it recognises the tadpole more as a source of food because it looks like something with a hard shelled carapace, the entry mentions that it primarily predates things like large crustaceans.
I also believe it registers flashing lights as a threat display. You can see that when the collector leviathan gets aggressive, its back emits a purple glow. Obviously very inspired by cuttlefish and their ways of communicating via patterns in their skin.
I’ve seen a few people critiquing its design. Could we have a creature that’s a bit more original than a ginormous cephalopod? Maybe, but I honestly couldn’t care less. As a giant cephalopod enjoyer, I am genuinely such a fan of this creature. I think the music playing as it advances towards you is chilling, and I have wanted nothing more than to keep testing how close I can get to it without being grabbed because of how beautiful it is. I’m so excited for more Subnautica 2 updates in the future, I hope this creature gets a lot more attention from the devs :]
I've been in a bit of an art funk lately, so I decided to do a little redraw of this piece from 2021.
did you predict the bloody mary ship
Sorry but if you mod Subnautica 2 just so you can kill everything in sight for fun I do actually think you're massively lame. The whole point of the game is to co-exist and adapt to the ecosystem not become the apex predator, if you want to go kill animals for fun with guns go and play ark survival evolved or whatever
Chat gpt you will never be her
she is so sweet and darling and beautiful
Always bear in mind that there is absolutely no legitimate evidence that Luigi was actually the one who killed the insurance company guy.
Of course he wasn't. He was at a party with me that day.
No but like literally, actually. All bits aside.
He didn't do it.
The cops very clearly planted evidence on him because they had to make an arrest because all eyes were on them and whoever actually did the deed was making them look stupid.
Why would the real killer hero have kept the weapon on his person and traveled two states over while carrying it and a manifesto in his bag, conveniently turning the crime into a federal matter? The same guy whose bag they found in a park, filled with monopoly money? Why did the police turn off their bodycams, take Luigi's stuff, drive a block away, turn their bodycams back on, go back into the restaurant, and then arrest him?
From the moment of his arrest, even left-of-center media has been presuming his guilt without examining anything (e.g. calling him "the killer" instead of "alleged" or "accused") and then when I say he didn't do it, the nearest person chimes in with some quip that tells me they think he did do it but should go free anyway. Don't get me wrong, I would have the same attitude if he had done it. But he didn't. It makes me feel like the only sane person in the world, even among my staunchly leftist friends.
“bits to use in everyday conversations”
Hey. Things are going to get better.
You cannot prevent it.
Yes I am threatening you with a good time.
Have A Good Day, Bitch
ENJOY YOUR TRIP, PIONEERS!!!
Hey I heard you’re giving out anxiety, can I have 1 anxiety please?
yes, here is a baby oarfish
that’s a BABY?
boy howdy are you in for a treat! introducing, the Oarfish!
MA! THERE’S A WEIRD FUCKING FISH!
Not much is known about Oarfish. Their maximum length is debatable, though there are reports of specimen up to 56 ft long. They live at great depths, and are rarely observed alive. Here’s a relatively small one:
Slightly larger one:
aaaaand, little bigger:
Yeah. these children get long. hold on a mo’, i might have a better photo
yeah. there we go. a few hundred lbs of Oarfish. like i said, length-variable. that one’s only about 28 feet though. so like, imagine that but double.
look how excited everyone is. well, everyone but the fish. oh, fun fact! they can self-amputate up to 3/4th of their body. lizard style.
Historically, Oarfish have been described as sea serpents, and are probably responsible for a fair portion of myths. In Japanese folklore, their appearance portends earthquakes. Though rarely seen, Oarfish live in every ocean. All around the world. Everywhere. No matter what coastline you’re on, they’re always there. Just a few thousand feet below water. Waiting.
Watching.
JESUS THAT WAS MORE THAN 1 ANXIETY
I AM A WHOLESALE PROVIDER
…when they self-amputate their lower bodies, do you think it just keeps wiggling around down there like a 42-foot-long dismembered lizard tail?
God I love the horrors of the ocean.
*-10 anxiety*
i know it's really not that serious but it annoys me when i see people completely miss the whole coexisting and becoming a part of an ecosystem part of subnautica, and then get mad when unknown worlds doubles down on not being able to kill things (with the exception of food and removing diseases or parasites, of course)
like. how did you get the impression that you're supposed to kill anything that gets in your way. did we play the same game
i'm so so glad they're just completely removing the player's ability to damage and kill creatures in subnautica 2 in favor of more interesting nonviolent methods (outside of the previously mentioned things) but i fear people who completely miss the point and view the game as something it most definitely is not will be very annoying about it
to quote bart torgal: “and what’s the point in surviving here if we have to kill everything that makes it so wonderful?”
The best part of this post is exactly how the different pioneers decide to live on the planet after some time.
So: spoilers, obviously you have been warned
Sophie wants to insulate herself and her people from the ecosystem to protect them from the heavy metals in the water, the proteavirus, Masefield etc. she’s so anti-the ecosystem that she wants to destroy the world tree despite the evidence that maybe the tree isn’t the problem and the Bloom is. (Have my theories that the Masefield is the tree calling for help as it’s become blighted by the Bloom strain of Proteavirus, especially since the angel combs seem to ask for help? And the Axum observatory says the trees angels are begging.)
Anita and the Jubilee want to become part of the ecosystem, rejecting NoA and the habitats, adapting via angel combs that Anita seems to sacrifice herself to in order to get the necessary mutations they need to survive (and then those Angel combs use her voice to talk to you, or in the case of the heat Angel comb, they use Wander’s voice since she died at that one because of a bloom infected marrowbreach) as well as sleeping in air pockets, eating the native wildlife etc.
Then there’s Nahema who fully rejects the fact humanity should survive on this planet, thinks you should see the sights and find a good place to die so the planet can use your nutrients, as well as blowing everyone else up because humanity should just die out in her view.
Out of everyone portrayed, the Jubilee have probably had the least damning portrayal? Since they just want to live amongst the planet peacefully and adapt, meanwhile both Sophie and Nahema are bent on destroying some aspect of life there; either the world tree or humanity.

‘Multiple leviathan classlifeforms detected’ is an incredible line, and I’m astounded that they one upped it in Subnautica 2 with four words
‘You are being hunted’
