ESPN: “The Body Issue” Amanda Bingson, Paige Selenski, Natalie Coughlin, Leticia Bufoni, Ali Krieger, Aly Raisman,
Can we just recognized that they all have different body types but are all extremely athletic.
And none of these photos are hyper sexualized 👏🏻
Oh my GOD
Thank god people can actually take pics of women without sexualizing them! Wow
OMG!!! Brilliant!
@fictionalred this! Have you seen this?
“But Islam is a violent religion!“
A consortium of one hundred and twenty Islamic Scholars have just published an Open Letter to Daesh (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdad,i denouncing the organization’s violent and extremist actions in the Middle East; here’s a summary of their points. The next time some bozo tells you that Islam is inherently violent, tell them what Muslim doctrine actually holds:
It is forbidden in Islam to issue fatwas without all the necessary learning requirements. Even then fatwas must follow Islamic legal theory as defined in the Classical texts. It is also forbidden to cite a portion of a verse from the Qur’an—or part of a verse—to derive a ruling without looking at everything that the Qur’an and Hadith teach related to that matter. In other words, there are strict subjective and objective prerequisites for fatwas, and one cannot ‘cherry-pick’ Qur’anic verses for legal arguments without considering the entire Qur’an and Hadith.
It is forbidden in Islam to issue legal rulings about anything without mastery of the Arabic language.
It is forbidden in Islam to oversimplify Shari’ah matters and ignore established Islamic sciences.
It is permissible in Islam [for scholars] to differ on any matter, except those fundamentals of religion that all Muslims must know.
It is forbidden in Islam to ignore the reality of contemporary times when deriving legal rulings.
It is forbidden in Islam to kill the innocent.
It is forbidden in Islam to kill emissaries, ambassadors, and diplomats; hence it is forbidden to kill journalists and aid workers.
Jihad in Islam is defensive war. It is not permissible without the right cause, the right purpose and without the right rules of conduct.
It is forbidden in Islam to declare people non-Muslim unless he (or she) openly declares disbelief.
It is forbidden in Islam to harm or mistreat—in any way—Christians or any ‘People of the Scripture’.
It is obligatory to consider Yazidis as People of the Scripture.
The re-introduction of slavery is forbidden in Islam. It was abolished by universal consensus.
It is forbidden in Islam to force people to convert.
It is forbidden in Islam to deny women their rights.
It is forbidden in Islam to deny children their rights.
It is forbidden in Islam to enact legal punishments (hudud ) without following the correct procedures that ensure justice and mercy.
It is forbidden in Islam to torture people.
It is forbidden in Islam to disfigure the dead.
It is forbidden in Islam to attribute evil acts to God.
It is forbidden in Islam to destroy the graves and shrines of Prophets and Companions.
Armed insurrection is forbidden in Islam for any reason other than clear disbelief by the ruler and not allowing people to pray.
It is forbidden in Islam to declare a caliphate without consensus from all Muslims.
Loyalty to one’s nation is permissible in Islam.
After the death of the Prophet, Islam does not require anyone to emigrate anywhere.
Nice list. @allthecanadianpolitics ?
Btw, #22 is the most basic reason why Da'esh is illegitimate and why Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has committed a grave crime against Islam.
Da'esh and al-Baghdadi did not receive the approbation of all muslims, there was no shura that was set up for debate and consultation. Nobody asked muslims worldwide whether or not they recognized Da'esh as a caliphate. Those guys just stole themselves some territory and decided to call their illegal “government” a caliphate.
They are illegitimate and their “state” flies in the face of every rule in the books.
THIS IS IMPORTANT. REBLOG, LIKE, SPREAD THIS LIKE WILDFIRE ACROSS THE BLACKWATER.
Fantastic Breasts and Where to Find Them
That second to last panel is chilling.
reblogging again for linzeestyle’s tags, because, OMG, *TRUTH*
#fandom#harry potter#this is the real reason fandom is mocked derided and insulted by creators#because it *can’t* be packaged and resold#because our culture doesn’t know how to sell sex to women outside of the male gaze#and because women have created a community where they don’t need to buy anything to get what they want#and to people whose entire livelihoods#depend on creating and marketing unattainable ‘perfection’ to young women#telling them what sex and sex appeal is#how they should feel about it#and how they should desire it#and what they need to buy to be worth it#our entire economy is based on women being cut into parts and those parts being sexualized#and turned back around and sold to men and women alike#and fandom doesn’t participate#it creates its own economy and there’s no space for that model#that’s terrifying#and the people who used to hold all the cards mock it#because they lost the ‘C&D and shut-down’ alternative
#and because women have created a community where they don’t need to buy anything to get what they want
I think about this ALL THE TIME. I fucking love it.
Fandom is the most brilliant, beautiful, collaborative, critical, deeply subversive stuff there is and I ADORE IT TO PIECES.
And no, it’s not all women—certainly not, absolutely not. But I’d say it’s vast majority women. (…Ridiculous crazy vast majority anybody-except-cis-men.) I know I often think of fandom as a feminine and/or queer-centered space.
I’m reblogging for the added commentary and to add a link to a meta I recently came across. The whole thing is worth a read, but the first paragraph really resonates:
The types of fandom that are most often considered traditional and acceptable, and which are often either male-dominated or coded as masculine, tend to be acquisitive, whether in terms of knowledge (obscure trivia) or merchandise (collectibles). Whereas, by contrast, the types of fandom most often considered insincere, non-serious or “unreal”, and which are often either female-dominated or coded as feminine, tend to be creative, such as making costumes, writing fanfic and drawing fanart. (via fozmeadows)
I love this! Ofc young women/nb people/queer ids in hostile internet spaces are really into making things and presenting them instead of themselves.
as a queer man, fandom was the first place i saw people like me get to be in love and not die for it.
Fandom is so, so very important.

Thesis Problem #5
“Quickly scanning a scientific text to grasp its meaning and work it into my literary review” doesn’t work. Everything takes longer than anticipated when reading scientific texts.
Thesis Problem #4
Your topic is so specific you can’t find any literature for your literary review that covers what you are writing about. On the one hand - less to read! On the other hand - nothing to base your theories on. Which could be a good thing. Right?
Thesis Problem #3
When collecting your research material you base you study on in various word documents which you will later have to attach to your thesis, chose a common format for it before putting it into those files. Otherwise you're stuck having to format a huge amount of data, lose precious time, and feel pretty stupid because you should have known better.
More study tips #2
Thesis Problem #2
Time.
There’s only a handful of weeks left, you have yet to research and write your literary overview, finish writing the chapter on the methodology you used for your data analysis (and understand how to use it) as well as conduct said analysis. You’re kind of scared of telling your advisor how behind you are because you already know you won’t get an extension, can tell he’s not satisfied with the quality of your work as well as unhelpful in making it better. Not to forget, there needs to be some time left for revision as well, meaning you don’t even have that handful of those weeks to write that beast of a thesis.
Panic mode, here I come.
i know it’s monday but shh
Study til you drop.
Thesis Problem #1
You base the approach to your research on a short summary of a method you read before doing said research. Because not reading the 200-page text book saves time and energy. Months later, when you have to write it all down and had to read the text book, you have no idea which of your quadrillion of source texts you based your approach on. The approach you used and the text book’s slightly differ, of course.
