Why is no one talking about what happened in São Paulo yesterday?

The sky turned completely black around three in the afternoon partly because of smoke coming from the Amazon rainforest, WHICH IS 2300 KILOMETERS AWAY FROM THE CITY, where the government has greatly increased the amount of land being burned for profit. People are getting sick, animals are dying, native territory is being lost to the flames.

This is what the sky looked like in my city yesterday, in the early afternoon.

It got so dark so fast the city had to turn on the lamp posts and night lighting.

I haven’t been active at all recently so I don’t know if there have been posts about this already but. I was reading the news about the Dayton shooting, and according to an article which linked to his blog, one of the victims was part of this community and I’m very sad and don’t know what to do. I don’t know if this was mentioned before and i just missed it because I wasn’t online, and it doesn’t feel right for me to properly make a post about it because I didn’t know him so im just kind of. Here. And I’m sad and angry and tired. And idk what to do

Almost 700 workers (most with families) were just detained by ICE in MS. The raid was a direct result of their women speaking out against sexual abuse. Their children will be trafficked and traumatized. Their sick will go untreated in America’s brutal concentration camps.

Anyone else love swimming as a kid but then kind of lose their enthusiasm for it when puberty came along?

I’m still not sure about the wording of this post, because I still very much enjoy swimming as an activity. I love being in the water, swimming around, pretending to be a mermaid, etc. It’s just other stuff surrounding it that became somewhat uncomfortable once I reached my teens.

I bet I won’t be alone in this. Around that sort of age, new stuff happens, and you start to become aware of stuff that you didn’t really have to think about as a kid. 

Most AFAB people start getting periods, so you’ve either got to schedule any swimming around that or get used to tampons 

A lot of teenage girls have body image issues because of societal bullshit

Said teenage girls are also at risk of creepy men trying to sexualise them

If you’re read as female you have to choose between removing your body hair or dealing with the possibility of someone judging you and/or making rude comments about it

Many trans people have dysphoria that would be worsened by wearing a swimsuit in public

Swimsuits at that age are way too oversexualized as well and show off way too much, as if they were really meant for adults but sized for kids. I hated swimsuit shopping because of it. Also, because my chest was bigger even when I was younger, the swimsuits meant for girls were so revealing in the front and it never stayed in place so it was always slipping off. And the bigger sizes wouldnt fit me either because they’d be too big. I ended up settling on a shirt and swim shorts and I swear by that combo to this day. Otherwise it would be extremely uncomfortable for me going swimming or shopping for swimwear. Why can’t girls just have age-appropriate fucking clothes for goddamn once??

But yeah, periods suck too and were also the worst in terms of swimming.

The last time I went swimming like, by myself for fun, I was maybe 12? And I was going underwater because that’s fun. And the pool had like, this sort of twisty little bit that was fun to swim through and had lots of turns. And I go around one and am face to face with some assholes junk. As in a grown man pushed his trunks down to his knees bc he’d seen a kid swimming underwater and wanted to, well, idek. But I came up for air bc what the fuck, and he asked me if I liked what I saw.

I was twelve. Young girls are sexualised too early and apparently if they have the audacity to remain children for too long some dickwad feels the need to take that away from them.
