Hugh sits on the cold bathroom floor next to the drunk crying Paul. He puts the holoframe he took from the bedside table next to him. “Come here, you.” He draws the crying man into his lap, rubbing his back soothingly. “It’s going to be okay.”

Paul hiccups and wipes his snotty nose with his sleeve, “How can you say that? You are getting married.”

“Yes, I am. I love my fiancé very much.” Hugh places a kiss into Paul’s hair, hoping to get him to calm down.

Those words only make Paul cry harder, “How can you say that to me? What’s your fiancé going to think if he walks in and sees us like this.”

He’s not walking anywhere tonight.

Hugh reaches for the holoframe and hands it to Paul. “This is a picture from my engagement party. It will show you the very sexy man I’m marrying.”

“Are you trying to tear my heart out,” Paul sniffles as he wipes his eyes.

“Look at the picture, Paul.”

“Hey, that’s me.”

“Yes.”

“And that’s you.”

“At OUR engagement party.”

“Oh.”

“This is why you don’t drink anything stronger than wine. You forget important parts of your life.”

“I didn’t forget I love you.”

BRAZILLIAN NETFLIX CENSORED STAR TREK!

This week new episode apresents Adira as a nonbinary person who uses they/them pronouns. An huge and important scene for all trans and nonbinary fans around the world. Yet, brazillian broadcaster Netflix Brasil somehow decided this was something not importante enough and erased Adira's pronouns in both subtitles and dubbing.

I'm gonna copy here the text I wrote trying to explain the situation and get the attention of cast members and producers of the series in twitter:

Portuguese, unfortunately, is a gendered language (our verbs and adjectives change in accordance to the gender). But, besides that, as in English we have she/her pronouns (ela/dela, that in plural become elas/delas), he/him pronouns (ele/dele, that in plural become eles/deles) and neutral pronuns (elu/delu, that in plural becomes elus/delus — for them, as for 'ela' and 'ele' pronouns we have a whole grammatical way of verbal/adjectives concordance), that are used mostly by nonbinary people and aren't as new as the media tries to pretend.

Instead of translating them/them as elu/delu, which is the brazillian portuguese equivalent to the singular/neutral form of they/them, they translated into the he/him plural (eles) which isn't neutral or used by our nonbinary community. Erasing not only the meaning of the sentence and a 'coming out' scene that was so important and representative, but effectively erasing the nonbinary representativeness that many brazilians were finally expecting to have!

Not only that, so does the dubbing! Shamely, they put Adira saying that they prefers "eles no plural" (they in plural), completely erasing the use of neutral pronouns and giving the idea that Adira only prefers they/them because they are a symbiote hoster so "more than one person" (Netflix practically said: "Adiras pronouns are because of their body qnd something physical that happened to them, not because they way they identify as").

This was not a beginner's mistake or because they did not know about the existence of neutral brazilian language elu/delu! Other series like One Day At a Time, Greys Anatomy and even the documentary Disclosure have the use of the pronouns they/them. And while on ODAAT and Greys @NetflixBrasil erased their representativity by translating and dubbing these characters with she/her pronouns (on Greys they even use "elx" which is a transphobic and unpronounceable way of treating a nonbinary person). In Disclosure the subtitles are perfect and using elu/delu. And, even in general broadcasters, HBO Brasil has a brazillian series called TodxsNós (the name with x is purposeful as criticism to the "elx" thing) where the main character uses elu/delu pronouns. So, Netflix can't say this is a "new thing" or "not knowledged by the media". So why this? Why would they erase and censure Adira's pronouns and nonbinary identity?

Please help Brazilian fans to correct this! We want Adira not to be erased! Their importance to not be erased! Nonbinary characters to not be erased anymore! We want a subtitle and dubbing that respects the existence of trans, nonbinary and general people who uses the pronouns they/them (elu/delu)! We deserve it!
