i keep seeing “europeans stop shitting on america” posts, and it’s super obvious that the americans saying this have absolutely no idea how strong the cultural imperialism is, from what position they are sitting in, regardless of their own power within their country.

the rest of the world is absolutely drowned in american culture and news and politics. american media dominates so thoroughly that many countries struggle to keep their own film/arts/music industries alive, and more people know about american history than their own. between the political blackmail, ‘allyship’ and pure domino effect, we are often directly impacted by usa domestic politics, over which we have no control. on the internet we are subject to american domestic laws by websites, and held accountable to american cultural values by the hoards of loud americans that use “but americans are the majority here” as a defence, as if that were even true, and as if minorities don’t matter if they’re ‘foreign’. every issue we discuss on the internet of race or class or politics has to be filtered through your cultural values, or you start yelling at us and calling us bigots. we are forced to partake in your culture, and you are blind and ignorant to ours; just as everyone is expected to see themselves as the straight white male protagonist of every (american) story; we are expected to see ourselves as subject to american culture and values.

there are two types of countries in the world: those that america considers a threat to their national secuirty, and those occupied by american military bases, either through force or as “allies” to the “free world”.

of fucking course we’re going to criticize you. you, the average american on the internet expecting us to apply everything through your cultural lense, can’t even conceptualize nonamericans as anything other than “europeans” who are just smugly taking potshots at you for no legitimate reason. you can’t even take your head out of your ass for long enough to realize there’s a goddamn reason we hate america, and you need to realize that you might be part of it.

it saves the state department a lot of propaganda money when you’re all ready to do half their job for them.
