Hey! I have a Galah I rescued a couple years ago, and I was wondering if I could ask you some questions? Our first year together was affected by a really harmful roommate (we're past that now), but before that, he didn't have a lot of... attention from people (he barely knew how to step up despite being two and a half???), so he's not very good at being a bird. I'm doing my best by him, but I just don't know how "normal" some things are!

I'm so sorry for the late reply. Anyone is always welcome to ask me anything regarding raising galahs. Just keep in mind I'm new at this too! My experience is just the three beautiful years I've had with my handsome pink man.

Another day, another fat! Had his wings clipped today. The new house is just too stressful for him to be fully-flighted. I avoided it as long as I could, but his panic-flights were causing his blood pressure to skyrocket and he would literally spaz around in the air until he couldn't fly anymore and drop like a rock. In the interest of his safety, he'll be grounded for a bit. :( I hate to have a disclaimer, but I know how tumblr can get: Before anyone gets super upset or self-righteous, I discussed this with his vet and have made a choice that we BOTH deem to be necessary for the safety and happiness of Indiana. This is temporary and his wings, like hair, will grow back. This gives him time to adjust.

An Open Letter to Whoever Approves These Content Violations

@staff I've dealt with five or six content policy violation emails in the last two days. This blog is literally pictures and videos of my pet parrot. The other blog I have had videos removed from consists of pictures and video of my dog. I understand to the untrained eye Indiana may look like a big pink feathered vagina, but I assure you he is, in fact, a parrot. Despite what you might have heard, beaks are not a feature of the vagina nor are vaginas prone to squawking and repeating words. If you have mistaken him for a penis, I can assuage your fears. He ACTS like a dick, but is actually a native parrot species of Australia called a galah cockatoo. I know, I know. 'Cock' is actually part of his species name. If he comprehended the English language, I am certain he'd take issue with his entire species being one giant dick joke waiting to happen. I promise, though, if you Google Eolophus roseicapilla, you'll see he is, indeed, not a species of penis but of large parrot. In closing, fuck off with your policy violation shit. I don't give two shits if someone is reporting my posts and you're just 'following policy'. My posts will literally never be sexually explicit. Go hunt down the 'report button' abuser. There are videos of people fucking on tumblr. Go bother those peeps instead. Leave me and my dickvagina bird alone.

How did you come to acquire your galah?

I bought when he was just a weeeeeee egg from an aviary owned by a wonderful gentleman and his partner in the Austin, TX area who raised (weaned) Indiana for the first 4ish months. After 20 years of raising birdies, they’ve retired. I still send them pics every year.
