For those wondering about the fox. Grace has a subtle motif with this animal throughout the movie, but especially this shot where they pack this toy fox with his belongings on the Hail Mary. still not over phm movie and dynamic change for stratt/grace. book stratt/grace is betrayal with teeth, and i do love that. it’s the pragmatic choice made brutal. grace still sits with all that anger, all that raw pain, because yes, she had to, but she still did it to him.

but movie stratt/grace. god.

movie eva isn’t cold. she’s guarded. painfully, deliberately guarded. until the mask slips and, for one dangerous moment, she thinks she might get to keep him.

she cares about him. she knows she cannot afford to care about him. and she does it anyway.

she sends him because she has to. and it hurts because it’s right. and it hurts because it’s him.

and his goodbye message being so gentle??? no rage. no cruelty. not even the satisfaction of blame. just this awful, beautiful understanding. he knows she was right. he knows what she chose. and he doesn’t make her carry his anger too.

Imagine doing a voice acting gig for a bank voice on a computer or whatever that you eventually completely forget about, only for it to one day come back to you when the FIRST intellectual alien lifeform that a human being has ever met decides to use it as their chosen voice. The mild horror. The exhilaration. The emotional punch. This is it. This is your magnum opus. You have given a human voice to a sentient rock and it will NEVER get better than this.
