Trans people don’t need to be on hormones for you to respect their gender and sexuality
Not every trans person can access hormones. Some are closeted, some can’t afford it, some are on waiting lists, some are in the early stages of their lives. And some trans people might not want to go on hormones at all.
Cis people prefer to see us in our most passing forms, and we tend to only want to be seen by cis people in our most passing terms. We’re usually only accepted by cis people in our most cis passing and gender comforming.
“Trans women are women, look at this trans woman on estrogen” might be a nice liberal sentiment, but ignores that the trans woman not hrt is just as much a woman as the trans woman on it. This goes for trans men. For non-binary people.
And we are still valid in our sexualities, who we are attracted to and date, even when not hrt. Trans straight women not hrt are still straight women. Same with the trans lesbian, the straight trans man, or the gay trans man. A bisexual trans woman not hrt dating another woman, whether that woman cis or trans, is in a same gender relationship. I say this because often times we tend to only wanna portray trans people in relationships once they’ve gone on hrt.
Hrt isn’t a requirement to gain respect. To be represented. We shouldn’t have to be at our most passing, our most gender conforming, our most conventionally attractive. It’s hard enough if you’re a trans person with dysphoria or who face misgendering, but then you have it so only the trans people who have transitioned are the ones who can earn respect, who get to be the face of trans people, and you think “I don’t look like that.” It can feel very alienating.
This is something that’s hard to talk about because cis people tend to pick and choose what trans people they choose to respect or uplift if they do at all. Cis allies tend to agree that expecting surgeries from trans people is unfair, but seem to wanna ignore the topic of trans people who can’t go on hrt. Those trans people are harder for them to support. It’s a little frustrating.
*holds a baby carrot like a cigarette* I’m just….. over it, you know?

Notice how Shan Yu doesn’t even question it or make a comment about “BUT YOU’RE A GIRL” he just instantly goes into a “I’LL TEACH YOU TO KILL MY MEN AND STEAL MY VICTORY” rage and I think about this a lot sometimes
((Well that might have to do with the fact that he’s a Hun. Women among the Huns had higher status than their Chinese counterparts and even some of their own men. Women were free to hunt and fight along side of the men, could choose their own husbands and divorce him if she choose to. There were even records of clans being led by women leaders. So for Shan Yu Mulan is just another soldier))
thank you, history side of tumblr.
He also might not have been able to see very well, due to whatever horrible disease has taken hold in his eyeballs.
Pretty serious Wilson’s Disease judging by the copper buildup in in irises, and apparent melanocytosis localized to his sclera.
Thank you medical side of tumblr

Also! The other actress is a trans woman! She’s really cool!
T'challa is a Good Male Protagonist ™ mainly because he is humble and without the ego you see from so so many other male protagonists in blockbuster films
He defers to the wisdom of his mother, his sister, his general, his love, the women around him. He was a sweet and loving son who expressed and enjoyed physical and emotional tenderness from his father.
He’s proud but doesn’t ever disrespect anybody. He values family, affection and emotion and expresses it freely, but still retains the poise of a king.
That’s kind of rare in a lot of the mostly white, mostly male Hollywood protagonist lineup.
#he’s so not aggressive and i love that about him #also it makes the rare times he explodes that much more impressive
