I blazed through ZTD
In 19 hours and cried. I’m so ready to read everything @airdeari has written that had endgame spoilers.
Maybe when I’m feeling fewer emotions though...
Mmmm
How about some meta stuff?
A peek into my thought process/self-supplied-refresher-course on how I’ve chosen to work with the Voltron Lions in writing. Like… something for those curious about the stuff that goes behind the written stuff?
Some pairs I’ve worked with more than others though, so the depth gone to each one varies quite a bit, and it’s probably obvious. But it’s 2000 words of thoughts and considerations if ya interested, with room to grow

Has gotten me hooked on Zero Escape. Me; five foot five (and a bit) of paranoid anxiety and stress-triggered medical conditions, an escape room fanatic with an obsession for puzzles and a tendency to skip anything that even vaguely whiffs of plot or instructions.
I streamed my entire blind run of 999 in under 12 hours (half his time) and screeched my way through the whole thing trying to either date Santa or avoid Akane (rip me, didn’t realise why that would be difficult). Four hours and one route into Virtues Last Reward and it’s safe to say my wimpy ass is gonna end up playing Zero Time Dilemma too.
And against the advice of literally everybody, because spoilers, I’m reading fanfiction. Or, rather, I’m reading @airdeari’s fanfiction...over, and over...and over.
Guys I didn’t even consider aoilight to be a ship but now it might be my top NPC OTP??? That’s how good their writing is, holy f. Go read it all and leave them a nice comment. <3

Warmth and Comfort
A little something I wrote based on @shir-oh-no‘s post about Lance napping on top of Shiro. And I decided to make him sick bc I’m a ho
Word Count: 564
Extra Notes: College au, set in December, just after finals end
Lance is a good napper. Everyone who knows Lance knows that. He can lay down for thirty to forty five minutes to recharge, no problem. He can just close his eyes and pass out in seconds. He can nap in complete silence just as soundly as he can nap with Hunk, Pidge and Keith playing video games and yelling at each other. Lance can nap like nobody’s business.
But only when he’s laying on top of Shiro.
Now, it wasn’t always like this.
Before he met Shiro, he didn’t need anything to help him nap, he didn’t need anything or anyone specific to help him fall asleep, he could just nap with no problem. Even when he did meet Shiro, he didn’t need to be laying on him in some way to nap (even though he did very much prefer to be).
And then Shiro got into a car accident.
Ever since then, Lance doesn’t nap if he’s not with Shiro. Because no matter how much anyone says it to him, if Lance hadn’t been taking a nap that day, Shiro wouldn’t have gotten hurt. So now, Lance doesn’t nap, let alone really sleep without Shiro.
So when Lance got back to his apartment after finishing his last final of the semester and saw Shiro laying on the couch watching TV, his head pounding and his muscles aching, Lance saw no better opportunity to take a quick nap. He kicked off his shoes, shrugged off his snow dusted backpack and coat, and made his way over to the couch. Shiro opened his arms to his boyfriend without missing a beat, and Lance all but collapsed into his warm embrace.
“How’d it go?” Shiro asked, toying with Lance’s hair, still damp from melted snow from outside.
“Mmmh.” Lance grunted, not wanting to aggravate the growing soreness in his throat. “Tired.” He stated simply.
“I can tell.” Shiro chuckled. He began combing through Lance’s hair. “Do you maybe wanna take off this sweater before you pass out?” Shiro asked. “You’re warm.”
Lance grunted again, shaking his head and burying it further into Shiro’s chest. “Cold.”
“Are you getting sick?” Shiro asked, brushing his hair away from his forehead to feel it. The heat settling underneath his skin was enough of an answer. Shiro pulled the soft fleece throw blanket on the back of the couch over Lance and himself, smiling when Lance sighed as he was wrapped in the extra warmth.
“How’s your nose?” Lance asked, his voice rougher than usual. Shiro chuckled, reaching up to brush the large scar across the bridge of his nose.
“Better, better.. It’s almost starting to feel normal again.” Lance nodded into Shiro’s chest. Lance sniffled, and Shiro giggled. “It’s doing better than yours, apparently.” Lance smiled.
“Stupid snow..” Lance mumbled, just about ready to pass out. “Making me all sick ‘n stuff..” Shiro let out a small laugh.
“We’ll get a read on that fever when you wake up, yeah?” Shiro suggested. “Get you some tea and keep you nice and warm. How’s that sound?”
“Mm..” Lance agreed. “You’re good at that… Keep'n me warm…” Shiro smiled, leaning down and kissing Lance right on top of his head.
“Just get some sleep, alright?” Lance hummed happily, his breathing falling into the steady rhythm of sleep. Shiro hugged Lance close to him, and Lance hugged back. They’d deal with his fever later. Right now? All Lance needed was Shiro’s warmth and comfort.
for @iluvthesnz who’s having a rough day and who came up with this fabulous prompt (honestly she’s the best at coming up with these)
Shiro had been sick for close to a week and a half now, with the same stupid bug that had been working its way through campus and his friend group.
It started with Pidge, who spread it to Hunk. Hunk, who was sharing a suite with Lance, Keith and Shiro, spread it to Keith, his immediate roommate. Keith spread it to Lance, and Lance, being Shiro’s immediate roommate, spread it to Shiro.
Shiro, as he does, pushed through it until he couldn’t anymore, and had spent the last two days in bed, too weak and sick to get up.
Lance felt terrible he had gotten Shiro sick, especially since he had tried so hard to keep it to himself. It was nearly impossible, though, considering they were sharing a room, and considering Shiro insisted on caring for him.
“Hey, man,” Lance said, leaning against the doorframe. “How are you feeling?”
“Sambe,” he croaked.
Guilt gnawed at the pit of his stomach. “We’re all gonna watch a movie in the living room. Want to join us?”
Shiro buried his face in his blanket, coughing harshly (he wasn’t wheezing - yet - which Shiro took as a sign that he’d be okay after another day or two in bed).
Lance grimaced.
“I’m taking that as a no.”
“Huh?” Shiro frowned, brain hazy from the fever.
“I’m taking it you don’t want to watch the movie…are you okay?”
Shiro squeezed his eyes shut. “Oh…sorry…umb…ndo, i’mb too tired.”
“Okay…do you need anything?”
He sniffled. “Nd-ndo…hh'ngXCHT! *snff*”
Shiro plucked a tissue from the tissue box, and blew his nose.
“Sorry.”
Shiro rolled his eyes. “Lance, it’s not your fault. Stop feeling guilty.”
“But I’m the one who made you sick.” He whined.
“Half the campus is sick right now, if I didn’t catch it from you, I c…heh…s-sorry…ehh…one s-second-hih’ngXCHT! Hh’ihtGXCHT! *snff* if I didn’t catch it from you, I caught it from someone else.” He sniffled, coughing lightly.
“Bless you. If you need anything, text me. We’ll try to keep it down.”
Shiro was already half asleep, and by the time Lance shut the door, Shiro was fast asleep.
“Is Shiro feeling better?” Hunk asked.
Lance shook his head. “Not in the slightest.”
“Well shit,” Hunk sighed, “you think we need to get him to a doctor?”
“I think he just needs to rest. The idiot doesn’t sleep enough,” Lance said, rolling his eyes.
“I’ll make soup,” Hunk offered, standing up.
“Probably a good idea,” Keith frowned, “when’s the last time he’s eaten?”
“S’beend a while,” came a weak, congested, raspy voice from the doorway. “Hhh…Hhh’ngXCHT! Hh’ihtGXCHT! Hih’ngXCHT! *Snff*”
They all turned their attention to where Shiro was standing.
“Dude, what are you doing up?” Hunk asked, walking over to him.
“Couldn’t sleep,” he sniffled, and then gave a little cough, “I cand’t breathe lyindg downd.”
“Then come sit with us and watch the movie,” Keith said, patting the cushion next to him.
Shiro made his way over slowly, muscles aching and protesting as he did so. He all but flopped down onto the couch. The exertion threw him into a miserable, chesty, lung-seizing coughing fit that left him wheezing slightly.
“Shit, you have asthma, don’t you?” Lance frowned.
“Only when I get sick,” Shiro rasped.
“Yeah, and you’re sick now,” Lance bit, “and it’s getting worse. Are you okay? Do you need your inhaler?”
“No-”
“-okay well I’m getting it for you anyways. Where is it?”
“Nightstand,” Shiro mumbled, punctuating his statement with a sniffle. “I don’t need-”
“-yeah you do.” Hunk cut him off. “You’re wheezing.”
“Barely.” Shiro muttered, crossing his arms.
Keith rolled his eyes. “And barely is enough to need it.”
*
Shiro woke up in the middle of the night. He shivered, which made his teeth chatter and let him know his fever had definitely spiked. His entire body was aching with an intensity that hadn’t been there before, but that wasn’t what had woken him up.
His throat was dry, it felt like sandpaper, and hurt each time he swallowed.
Water. He needed water.
Shiro glanced at the humidifier, puffs of steam being shot into the air. His chest still felt tight, but he was no longer wheezing, and he suspected it was more due to all of the chest congestion than it had to do with the asthma.
He rubbed at his forehead and glanced over at Lance, who was dead asleep on the other side of the room. He sprawled out in bed as he snored, still slightly congested from when he had been sick.
Shiro was tempted to wake him up, because he felt weak and exhausted, and ached entirely too much to move. He didn’t want to, though, because Lance was asleep, and it was so stupid to wake him up because Shiro was being a baby and didn’t want to go get a glass of water.
As soon as he gathered the energy to get up, he found himself stumbling out of the room and to the kitchen.
What he didn’t account for, however, was how much he was trembling. His shaking hands couldn’t hold the glass, and he dropped it, shattering it everywhere.
Tears filled his eyes - he couldn’t do anything right. All he wanted to do was get a fucking glass of water himself, because he had been enough of a burden on everyone (especially Lance, who was stuck being his caretaker). They had spent enough time taking care of him when they shouldn’t have to.
Then, he burst into tears. They were going to be so mad he shattered the glass. They didn’t have many to begin with, and now they had even less. All because he was an idiot who couldn’t manage to just hold onto it.
The sound of a glass shattering jerked Lance out of his sleep, and he looked around blearily. He glanced over at Shiro’s bed, and then groaned.
It was empty.
Lance got out of bed and padded into the kitchen. Shiro was sitting on the floor, surrounded by glass and water as he sobbed uncontrollably.
“Shiro? Shiro, hey, what’s the matter?” Lance asked, putting on his flip flops that were next to the door.
“I’m sorry,” he wailed, tears streaming down his cheeks. His cheeks, Lance noted, were flushed with a bright red fever flush that spread across his cheekbones.
“What are you sorry about?” Lance frowned, walking over to his very distressed roommate. Shiro just kept apologizing over and over again. He was too out of it to respond, and when Lance felt his forehead, he inhaled sharply.
“I’m sorry!” Shiro wailed.
“It’s okay, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it, you don’t need to apologize. Do you think you can you calm down, though? You’re wheezing again.” He said softly.
Shiro had calmed down slightly, but his eyes were still glistening with tears as he gulped in breaths. Lance helped him stand up, and managed to get him to step over the broken glass. Once he was in his bed, Lance helped him with the inhaler and then cranked up the humidifier all the way.
As soon as he was breathing easier, Lance excused himself to go clean up the broken glass and water.
Shiro laid in bed, still clearly upset.
“Okay, I’m back.”
“I’m sorry,” Shiro moaned, choking on another sob. “Don’t be mad, please don’t be mad, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to, I’m s-sorry.”
Lance’s heart dropped at how upset Shiro sounded. Never, in the three years they had known each other, had Lance ever heard or seen Shiro cry.
To be honest, it was kind of sending him into a panic.
“I’m not mad, why do you think I’m mad?”
“I’m sorry,” Shiro whimpered. After a few moments of silence (during which Lance put the thermometer in his ear), Shiro mumbled out something about the glass breaking, and Lance laughed lightly.
“Dude, I don’t give a shit about the glass. Is that why you were so upset?”
Shiro nodded, and attempted to get out of bed, telling Lance to go back to sleep and that he would clean it up. Lance all but pinned him down.
“Stay in bed. Your fever is over one oh three. Please just lie down, you need to rest.”
Shiro sniffled weakly, eyelids drooping as he relaxed down into the pillows
“I’m sorry for waking you up.” He mumbled. “M’sorry for the mess.”
“It’s okay, go to sleep.”
Shiro nodded, finally allowing himself to fall asleep.
So, when I was doing my thesis on whether or not fanfiction should be considered a legitimate genre of literature, my advising professor asked me for examples. I gave him the generic ones, of course - “Pride & Prejudice and Zombies” is a horror fanfic of “Pride & Prejudice”, “50 Shades of Grey” is an erotica fic of “Twilight" - and that seemed to make him understand what fanfiction is, but not how it’s useful. So I thought about it, and, after about a minute, I said, “Paradise Lost is basically a fanfiction of the Book of Genesis. And The Divine Comedy is an epic self-insertion fic for Catholic doctrine. So, basically, you were teaching us fanfiction last semester.” I had never before seen a grown man’s eyes widen with such fear, incomprehension, disgust, awe, and understanding.
#does that mean the renaissance was almost entirely fan art?
Yes. Yes it does. All ur classic favs had the Renaissance version of DeviantArt.
Fandom Etiquette
I’ve been around for a really long time in various fandoms, and no one ever writes this stuff down. I’ll start. Please add to the list. We can’t expect people to follow “rules” they don’t know exist.

Fanart
if you like something, reblog it. Help the artist get their work out there in front of more people. Share the joy that it brought you.
if you want more of it, support it. This can be via commissions, reblogs, recommending the artist to other people, shouting in the tags, or sending the artist asks/messages.
if you hate it, keep scrolling. Keep the hate in a message window with a friend, not in the artist’s notes.
if you want to use it, ask permission. Artwork is beautiful and you want to show it off. But please ask the artist before you throw it into your header or your icon.
if you use it, give credit. And not just a post where you say “Do you like my new icon? X made it!”. Put it in your blog description, that way when someone rolls around your blog three months from now, they also know where your icon/header came from.
Fanfic
if you like something, reblog it. Help the author get their work out there in front of more people. Share the joy that it brought you.
if you want more of it, support it. Kudos are fine, but if you want more of the thing you like, you should comment. Subscribe to the story or the author. Send them a message about how much you like what they wrote.
if you read it, kudos it. Or give it a thumbs up. And this is just if you managed to get all the way to the end. If you finished the story and you actually liked it? Comment and reblog.
don’t demand content. Be patient. Stories take time. You can encourage without being demanding. Show your love for what’s there without telling them to post more often.
be gentle with criticism. Some people want it and some people run away from it. If you don’t know what type of person the author is, it’s best not to go there. “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything.”
Fandom
ship and let ship. You love your ship and other people love theirs. No one needs to “win” when we’re all going to end up in tears anyway.
if you hate it, stay out of the tag. This has two meanings: 1) don’t deliberately put hateful commentary in a tag and 2) if you hate a tag, don’t go and read through that tag just to make yourself angry
if someone makes you something, appreciate it. Read and comment the fic. Like and reblog the artwork. Pimp it out and tell them how much you loved it. It’s a gift, treat it like one.
if it’s a gift, put some effort into it. You signed up for that exchange three months ago and now it’s a week before you have to send the gift and you don’t have the time or the inclination to do the thing. Well too bad. Someone out there has been working hard in your gift, so you should do the same for them.
none of us are “better” than anyone else. We’re all trash for our particular show/film/book/ship/artist/what-have-you. My fave is no better than yours and yours is no better than mine.
actors are not their characters. They are people. Treat them like people.

Character Details to Hide from Your Readers
Hiding information from your readers on purpose will help you create tension in your novel. I know this doesn’t work for every novel, but if you’re writing something with elements of suspense and mystery, hiding details and revealing them later will improve your story. This also helps add dimensions to your characters and explore their motivations on a deeper level.
Here are a few things to hide about your characters to create tension:
Whether or not your protagonist is lying
Even good characters lie, especially if they feel like it will protect other people in the long run. There are ways to hint that your character is hiding the truth without actually revealing what the truth is. If your protagonist gets nervous or changes the subject when they’re asked about a specific detail, this will help show your readers that something isn’t quite right. If your character’s deception is hidden and then revealed at the right time, you’ll be able to add exciting tension and shock value to your story.
Who the real villain is
Some of the best tension is created when we’re uncertain about who the real villain is. In mystery/crime novels, for example, there’s often evidence that points to one person who ends up not really being the one we need to worry about. If you hide this information from your readers, you keep them guessing throughout the course of your novel and this will aid in creating suspense.
The truth about their past
When you hide your character’s past from your readers, you have the ability to use it as an explanation for something important later on. For example, if you character has these mysterious powers they can’t explain, you can use their parents and back story in order to reveal later on why it’s happening. Revealing past details slowly over the course of your novel helps build the mystery.
What their secondary goals are
Sometimes characters will have goals no one else knows about but them OR they will have a false goal that their using to cover up their real goal. For example, a character might say they’re rescuing another character because they want to help, but it really might be all about finding some hidden treasure along the way. There are many reasons why a character might want to hide their goals. Explore character motivations on a deeper level and you’ll be able to realistically include this type of deception in your story.
