He's not a bad father. He's doing what he can. It's most definitely a struggle to have interdimensional bounty hunters sent on you. Solar constantly has to be on the watch for the next individual who wants to kill him, and he still has his family's safety on his mind. He's not just trying to keep himself safe. He mentioned this in the argument with Cosmos. Solar is worried about how his family, his son, will react if he dies again.
I feel like a lot of people only see the conflict in tsams as black and white when it is very much is not. The characters can be right and wrong at the same time. In this show, the problems have never occurred in such a way that only one person is fully right. Solar had his reason to leave for a couple of days. Now that he sees leaving doesn't actually solve anything, he is coming home.
Angst isn't the only topic.
Imagine how boring tsams would get after a while if all we got was super important angsty lore. Fluffy and filler episodes are important. Now im not saying you can't enjoy the angst, cuz dont get me wrong, I love angst. It's just I dont need it all the time. I understand that there is a need for chill episodes in order for the plot and characters to gain depth. Solar is a character with trauma, yes, but that's not entirely who he is. He's a loving guy with passions, hobbies, and emotional depth.
Solar is not a bad father!!!! I see so many people say he is, and I understand where they're coming from, but they do not have the full picture. Solar has gone through a lot and is understandably scared. Jack, who has also had his fair share of trauma, is also scared. Solar does care about Jack, which is very clear. He tries to be there when his son needs him the most, but of course, that can't happen all the time. In fact, one of the main reasons he is returning home is because Jack got hurt. Solar realized that being away from his family doesn't help and, in some aspects, may even make things worse. He's not a deadbeat dad at all! That is one of the biggest Solar mischaracterizations I've ever seen. In order to be a deadbeat, Solar would need to be disrespectful and have a lack of responsibility for Jack, which is just not the case. Like I've stated, Solar does care. For someone who wasn't ready to be a dad, hes doing a pretty good job at it, especially with all the external and internal conflict he has.
Not saying hes the best dad ever.
Yes, it's true. Solar is not the best dad in the world. Im not saying he is, nor am I glorifying the bad choices he's made. Just like any other character in the show, hes made mistakes and needs to learn from them. I like the characters we are given because of their flaws, personality, and story.
