this is a little fic i dont even remember writing 2 years ago based on the song A Thousand Years. i thought i may as well post it for you all (i havent even reread it properly so dont be too mean pls) <3
Crowley's heart beat so hard in his chest he thought it might claw it's way out and leave for good. He watched Aziraphale's face as the angel's eyes darted wildly about, not fixing on a particular point, as though he was trying to find something, anything else to focus on.
After minutes of this, and Aziraphale showing no signs of speaking, Crowley's panic grew, and waiting wasn't an option anymore.
"Well? Are you going to say something? I just told you that I've spent the last 6000 years wanting to be with you and wishing we could just be us, don't you have anything to say?!"
Aziraphale's eyes fixed back on him, but he still didn't speak.
"Actually, you know what? Don't even worry about it. Forget I said anything, clearly you don't feel the same way. My mistake."
Crowley turned away from Aziraphale before the angel could see the unlikely tears forming in his eyes. He marched towards the door, sadness already twisting into bitterness. He just poured his entire soul out in the middle of a fucking bookshop and all Aziraphale could do was stand there? He'd been expecting... something. Something more. A joyous embrace had been farfetched, but just some kind of reciprocation, surely that wasn't too much?
As he pulled the door open and the harsh wind infiltrated the shop, a voice stopped him.
"How-" Aziraphale began, trailing off as he struggled to find the words.
He turned halfway back, not prepared to look at what he was losing.
"How can... how can I love you, when I am so afraid to fall?"
"Love?" Crowley asked, turning more.
"Yes, of course, love, but... but it would never work! It can't work! You're a demon, and I'm an angel, we naturally oppose each other, for all intents and purposes we are predestined, hereditary enemies." Aziraphale's eyes were bright and still wild, he looked desperate for Crowley to understand just what he was saying, and even more desperate for Crowley to prove him wrong.
"I have died every day waiting for you," the fallen angel said simply. And he turned and left the bookshop.
