This is a blog for my scale models and miniatures. I mainly do Warhammer 40k, and Dark Angels are my main faction. I’ve been slowly putting together a Forge World Death Korps of Krieg army since the summer of 2020. I also recently took the Warhammer: The Old World bait and started putting together an Empire army and a Dogs of War army. Occasionally I’ll do Bolt Action minis, scale aircraft, or ships. I also build Gunpla.

I post pictures of WIPs and completed kits, as well as some hobby musings.

all right, went ahead and ordered the platoon, an extra squad, and a plasma gunner to round out the command squad. That'll give me a Vostroyan platoon consisting of:

1x 5 man command squad

3x 10 man infantry squads

1x heavy weapon squad with lascannons

Someday perhaps I'll hunt down more heavy weapons on the secondary market. If I feel really insane I could add a Solar Auxilia tank painted in Vostroyan colors.

I wonder if I ought to have made the helmets of the 173rd the same blue as the uniform rather than black?

In terms of overall aesthetic I think 40k peaked at 7th ed, though 10th had some strong offerings.

I think for the Dark Angels specfically the peak was probably 7th, then 10th, then 6th, then 4th, then 2nd, then 3rd

For Imperial Guard the peak was probably 5th, then 2nd, then maybe 10th or 3rd, then everything else

For Grey Knights and the Inquisition the peak was 3rd and it's been downhill since

Obviously this is all just my personal (strong) opinion

Meanwhile the first Heavy Bolter team is slowly taking shape

On spring break now and that means a little more down time in which to paint. I’ve come to realize over this last year I’ve been far too precious and cautious with the Death Korps army because they were so expensive and resin is so temperamental. But if I want to finish the army in this decade I need to move faster.

I decided to start painting a platoon command squad during the downtime for the heavy bolter teams. Hopefully in the somewhat near future I can call this heavy weapons platoon finished.

of all the things we might say about the old Forge World minis, perhaps their most salient feature is that they just do not fit together almost at all
