Fire Frights [Blaine + Sabrina]
espmistress:
Hearing the doors to her gym open from the center room, Sabrinaâs head turned towards the entrance. However, she was not expecting what followed. What followed was the voice of a very familiar gentleman. She knew the voice belonged to her fellow gym leader, Blaine, and quickly smiled to herself.
âStill trying to be hip, I see?â She asked him telepathically. She would have greeted him in person, but she currently had her hands full. Sabrina was currently writing a letter informing anyone who wished to challenge her that she was going to be in Ecruteak City for the next few days helping Morty with his Haunter House. âGive me a fewââ She began before finishing the letter and teleported to the main entrance of the gym.
âSeconds. Hello Blaine. Itâs a pleasure to see you.â She smiled. âWhat brings you to Saffron City?â
Charcoalâs fur puffed briefly as she became startled by Sabrinaâs sudden appearance. However, Blaine simply laughed and smiled at Sabrina. âTrying? What does that mean? Iâve been hip since I could last remember!â And believe him, he had a pretty good memory. âItâs quite a pleasure to see you as well! Itâs been far too long, I hope you havenât locked yourself up here for too long, thatâs bad for your health, you know. Thatâs a part of the reason I came out here!â
Whether it was for himself or for her, that was left unsaid. Instead, he simply smiled some more, and he took off his hat to tip his head to her. âI also came to see how you were, since I realized that I really havenât been keeping up very well with my visits to most everyone.â Blaine rubbed his moustache for a few moments, smoothing it out before speaking again.
âHave you been getting into the Halloween spirit? I know I have decorated the Gym already, even if it isnât sneaking up right around the corner yet.â
Lost and Found [Blaine +Â Jeanne]
(( @littleladythief ))
To say that Blaine disliked the large cities would be far too dramatic. He did certainly dislike how confusing Lumiose City in particular was. He wanted to surprise Ary after not being in contact with him for a short while, but his good intentions and stubborn attitude prevented him from calling the man himself and asking him exactly where his apartment complex was.
Charcoal walked besides her Trainer, huffing as she looked around. Charcoal probably thought he was crazy too, and Blaine seemed to know this. He rested a hand on her shoulder, walking slowly. "There there girl, I'm sure we must be close."
He had no damn idea where he was, but he wouldn't say that!
Suddenly, a line that sounded like it could be from his grandson himself came into his head, and he edited it to fit his needs. "Hmm. Ary, Ary, wherefore art thou Aurelien?" He sang to himself, walking down the streets as if he owned the place. Then again, most anyone with a large fire breathing Pokemon walking by their side sort of did own the streets.
Fire Frights [Blaine + Sabrina]
(( @espmistress ))
How long had it been since he had been in Saffron City? Far too long, he told himself as he approached the doors of the Gym. He wasn't quite sure why he hadn't been here in so long, since Sabrina was one of the calmer and more relaxed members of the Gym system in Kanto.
It would do him some good to get back to that. He had been so caught up in the excitement of everything that sometimes, to sit back and unwind and simply talk sounded great. Also, there was Halloween coming up, and with that, he figured he could go around and perhaps get her in the spirit.
Now, with his Arcanine by his side, and an urge for witty banter in his head, he approached the doors of the Gym. He walked in, along with Charcoal, and he took a few glances around.Â
âIâm here! Trick or treat!â
Thatâs how the cool kids announced themselves, right? Right.
Fire Flower [Blaine + Erika]
Running a Gym meant always expecting visitors to wander in and out at all times. When she had first gotten control of the Gym, these visitors always made Erika both excited and nervous. But after a while of getting used to the patterns of the Gym, it became less interesting, a casual thing that happened every day. Some visitors, however, would always surprise her.
Getting visits from other Gym Leaders was somewhat of a rarity if something had not already been planned between them. It was always nice, though, to receive these random visits. The one who seemed to drop by randomly the most was Blaine, the Cinnabar Island Gym Leader. He liked to drop in on all his fellow Gym Leaders from time to time to maintain a relationship with them all. The visits were always appreciated. The time they spent together was always⊠interesting, to say the least.
It was late morning when Erika heard the doors to her Gym open. Instead of a challenger, she instead heard the familiar voice of Blaine call out to her. Well, that was certainly a pleasant surprise. She stepped away from her typical position in the Gym, heading down through the Gym to where the other Gym Leader was standing. She found him waiting patiently at the front of the Gym, with a small flower pot in hand. The âpeace offeringâ, perhaps?
âGood afternoon, Blaine,â Erika said to the older man, smiling. âIâm sure I can find some time to chat. Today has been⊠a little slow anyways.â She pointed at the plant in his hand. âFor me?â
Blaine grinned, gently handing the plant to her. âBut of course!â He took a glance around the gym, letting out a low whistle. âImpressive, have you gotten any new plants since I last came here? Donât tell me that these ones catch on fire easier, hah!â He liked to tease her about the plants in her Gym, but in reality, he respected her prowess with such things.
Heavens know what would happen if he dared to try and grow things.
He leaned against his cane, then, looking at all the beautiful flowers. âI hope I wasnât interrupting anything else important, you know. I was just bored, and thought to come to the one place that I havenât visited in a while. Have the Trainers been giving you a good enough workout? I know Iâve certainly had my hands full as of late.â
It was surprising, to say the least. He hadnât had a good batch of challengers come though in a while, so it was a nice refresher. He took in a deep breath, taking in the rather pleasant smell of the various flora that called the Gym their home. Blaine simply smiled at Erica, though, wearing a cheesy grin on his face.

Arcanine were so fierce and beautiful as they ran, as was the world as it passed his vision. It seemed to glitter as it moved so quickly like an old unvarnished painting of the forest as the sun set, golden stars dripping through the leaves all scratched on as painted strokes, coarse and unfinished, the way the world looks to someone who cannot see well without assistance.
As theyâd passed Blaine, Ary had made a point of smirking at him, one eyebrow raised, and when they arrived at the town, Charcoal sitting, he leaped off the beast and came right around in front of her, greeted with face licks and love.
âQuelle brillante, vous etes!â he exclaimed, ruffling her fur with his most loving pets and scritches. Truly she was a remarkable creature. The thrill of racing so quickly had filled him with vim, with vigor, with a thirst for more. Adrenaline was a powerful thing, non?
âWell we both wanted to beat you back here. I can do anything if it means winning,â he said, triumphant and proud. âBut home would be good. Is she always this fast?âÂ
âYou two were quite amazing,â Blaine laughed, flashing the Kalosian a bright smile. âYou did a much better job this time, even keeping yourself from falling on the ground.â The cold, hard ground. Oh, Ary was slowly learning, and that made Blaine very excited. He wondered if he would see Ary running in on a large Arcanine one of these days.
He started the trek rather slowly, taking his time to get most anywhere. âThatâs one of her fastest times, actually. Normally, she takes things a bit slower, but when she wants to win, she will.â He ruffled her fur as they walked, looking back at Ary. âGrowlithe do love to run a lot, though, so be prepared to have that little rascal racing circles around your house.â
The thought of that made him laugh once more. âI dunno if, in fancy baguette land, they make treadmills for Growlithe, but it might be something to look into.â Blaine smoothed out his mustache as they walked together. The walk to the house wasnât that far, and Blaine unlocked the door to let the group in. He headed to the kitchen, while Charcoal took a seat in front of the fireplace, igniting it with a small Flamethrower.

Ary nodded, of course heâd be staying the night. Heâd stay as long as he could. And then Blaine was gone, so fast. Ary didnât like the idea of riding on a pokemon, but now he knew what to expect. Charcoal was ready, Ary calling Rex and Blaine into their pokeballs as he stepped up beside her, bag firmly attached to himself.
âWeâre not going to let him beat us,â he said proudly, mounting the beast somewhat majestically compared to his first try. âNo Rapidash can outrun us.â
He was ready for it this time, resembling less of a frightened child and more of Princess Mononoke riding the Wolf God herself, prepared to be the wind, to set fire to the earth with their speed, and to show Blaine he was a fool to think his grandson wouldnât take after him. Maybe they werenât related, but when Blaine lights a fire, hoo boy, does it burn.Â
The Arcanine roared when Ary mounted her, a fierce and loud roar that rang clear though the air. Her paws were violently hitting the ground, and the duo were propelled forward much faster then the last ride. Yes, this ride had purpose, Charcoal had a goal this time, and damn her if she was going to lose. The fields whipped past the duo, quickly becoming nothing more then an afterthought.
Blaine had glanced back briefly, only to be met with the sight of his Arcanine rushing forwards. âDasher! Go, go!â He cheered on his Rapidash, but he already knew Charcoal would best them. And she did just that, though, rushing past her own Trainer and letting out a roar of âsee you later.â Arcanine were one of the fastest Pokemon in the world, but this proved to be good practice for the two Pokemon.
Charcoal came to a stop outside of the town, letting out another mighty roar. She reigned victorious once more, and she sat down on the ground, panting heavily. The mighty Pokemon made a point of licking Aryâs face when he got off, though. Blaine and Dasher soon arrived, and the old man couldnât help but smile.
âMy, you looked absolutely majestic on Charcoal! A true natural, just as I thought!â He got off of the Rapidash, but not before giving it lots of well deserved pets and love. âI knew you could do it!â He was proud that Ary managed to pull it off. âNow then, home it is.â
Fire Flower [Blaine + Erika]
(( @ericaceae ))
Visiting the Celadon City Gym Leader was often a test of his willpower. The fact of the matter was that, as a Fire-Type Gym Leader himself, he felt almost frightened of going into the woman's gym, scared of somehow setting the place ablaze.
How beautiful it would have been, had he actually hated the woman.
Erika was always a kind and patient woman, that much he could remember. Blaine made it a point to visit his fellow Kanto Gym Leaders every once in a while at the least, to enhance friendships and strengthen ties with people. It was something he found himself doing when he was bored, a way to entertain himself, as well as the people he would visit.
He walked into the Gym after a few moments, glancing around for the woman. "Erika?" He called out, waiting around the reception area while leaning on his cane. "I brought a peace offering, I thought maybe we could chat for a little bit." The item in question was a small potted flower, a bright orange one.

It was a gift. Blaine was full of them, these sparkling moments that gave Aryâs life meaning. His parents had given him love, had given him everything, made him more than he could have hoped to become, but it had all collapsed. Something inside of him had snapped and he watched it all set with the sun,his parents didnât know, he couldnât tell them, was afraid to say theyâd raised a failure with everything they had, bled themselves dry to give him a chance and he blew it.
But he hadnât. Blaine was there, saw something in him and stuck around in the most positive of ways. Heâd have to meet them eventually. They knew, of course, even if Ary didnât want them to, that heâd been fired, homeless, but they knew of his pride. Blaine knew the designer as more than a friend, less than family, and yet so much the both.
As Charcoal returned to the group, Ary pet her again.
âShould we go home?â he asked. His stomach growled, and he laughed. âI think I may actually be getting hungry,â he giggled. He would spend at least the night, though he had more than just a day or two off from work for the trip. Heâd find something to do, maybe theyâd go to the mainland together.Â
âOf course.â Blaine nodded at the idea, straightening out with a smile to the fluffier Blaine. âHome it is. You will be staying the night, right? I donât think Charcoal will forgive you if you do not.â He glanced at the Fire-Type Pokemon, who simply yipped in response.
"You will have to tell me about how you have been doing by the way." Blaine readjusted the hat on his head with a smile. "When we get home, though. Which will be quick." He released Dasher the Rapidash again, climbing on and grinning. "You better hurry up!" Blaine grinned and yelled as the Pokemon sped off.
The Arcanine's tail was in the air and wagging, and she was low to the ground, ready for the Kalosian to hop right on. She was going to out speed Blaine and Dasher, or else her name wasn't Charcoal. Her tail wagged back and forth rather aggressively, and she started panting with excitement. She couldn't wait to beat the two at their own game.

Blaine was sweet, a cute old man with a heart of absolute gold beyond any value anyone could even hope to measure. It was inspirational, truly. Aurelien hoped he might be half so wonderful when he was half Blaineâs age.
The Growlithe yipped at the old man, his quiet but excited barking just begging for attention as he put a paw on his hand and then rolled over to expose his fluffly belly.
âAh, salut, mon chiot,â Ary said sweetly as he provided Charcoal with some scritches under her chin and then up behind her ears. âAre you excited? Now when Blaine and I visit each other you will have a little friend to play with. Be gentle, you hear me?âÂ
The Arcanine let out a quiet bark, her tail wagging energetically behind her. She sat down next to him, leaning against his hands as he scratched her. Her foot even began to bounce a little, and she started to pant.Â
Blaine ruffled the fur on the Growlitheâs tummy, cooing to the small Pokemon. It was so adorable, so cute, and a great distraction from crying. Wonderful, even. The puppy would be wonderful to see once it was full grown, he mused. How well him and Charcoal would get along.
The sun was starting to set, and the fields were starting to calm down. An Arcanine barked at the group, and Charcoal bounded over, nuzzling the Pokemon for a few moments. The Arcanine turned away, and Charcoal slowly made her way to the group, sitting once more and smiling as she panted.
Today was a good day.

âI am too. Thank you,â he said.
Was Blaine crying? No, no, Blaine didnât cry, he was too strong, too hip for such frivolous emotional expression. Blaine was far too fiery to have anything to do with liquids, after all.
Ary stood himself up and threw his arms around around this adoptive grandfather of his. He had no hair for ruffling in return so this would have to do.
âThank you,â he whispered again, âso much for bringing me here, and for everything. I love you,â he said, so quietly and sincerely.
Few people had come into Aryâs life with a positive impact and he loved Blaine for believing in him, for loving him, maybe. It seemed a good and equal relationship full of bad puns, silly jabs, and the warmest of affections. It was like having another father. An old one with a propensity for terrible jokes who couldnât speak Kalosian, but another father. A good one. A grand on, even.
The smaller, fluffier Blaine was still playing with Rex, who was all too happy to be a mother figure to another pup. How strange it would be, her two children, a frigid polar bear cub and a fire puppy.Â
He had turned back around, watching the Pokemon with a smile. Charcoal let out a light bark, nuzzling into Blaineâs shoulder gently. He let out a laugh, completely at ease and bliss. The stinging went away, at least.
Blaine felt arms around him, and he returned the gesture, squeezing Ary tight. The words that Ary spoke only caused him to tear up more, and he took a deep breath. He was ecstatic that Ary was as happy as he was, and he was truly humbled and pleased. It fulfilled something in him.
He peaked over at the small Growlithe, that same grin growing on his face as he took in everything once more. He continued hugging Ary, his grandson, and still fought off those damn tears. Damn right he was too hip to cry, damnit.
âI love you too, Aurelien.â He decided to ruffle his hair once more, letting out a laugh. âEven if you ban me from telling people hello in Kalosian, damnit.â If he wanted a baguette, he would ask for one, damnit. He let go of the artist, instead bending down to the Growlithe. âCâmere, you, lemme pet you.â
As Blaine distracted himself with the little Blaine, Charcoal came over to Ary, snuggling into his shoulder too. She was obviously very happy as well

ă- Can your muse speak any other language other than their main one?Â
Well, I mean, Ary would say no, but Iâm pretty sure Blaine knows two words of Kalosian! Thatâs it though.
âș- Something your muse finds prettyÂ
The Arcanine fields by Cinnabar Island. Especially since he took Ary there with him, and helped him get a Pokemon there. Also, the thought of his grandson bonding with a Growlithe, much like Blaine did with his own Pokemon.
â- What your museâs phone gallery is filled with?
Probably pictures of funny things, or like⊠Pictures from Ary of his sketches/designs? Or of the new Pokemon he got.
â«- What is your museâs taste in music?
Blaine probably really likes old music, like⊠Stuff that would play when he was a kid. Otherwise, maybe he likes the traditional music of Johto.

âDonât be silly,â the Kalosian quipped. âOf course Iâm naming him Blaine, what other name could he have? He just looks like a Blaine, you know? Full of fire and fight, with a desire to play and a curiosity for all things. Powerful, endearing, passionate and loving. Je ne peux que penser a lâune, une singuliere appellation pour lui, hein?â
That was the plan and he wasnât going to change it. Blaine was likely the most important person in his life, the one whoâd helped remind him of his worth. Sure, it was his fashion mentor who nursed him back to reality, but without Blaine he might not have ever wanted it, might never have gotten where he was, might not have had the fire to seek out a future worth living. What had he said? Something about Ary being able to make it, that he believed in him.
He believed in him.
âA perfect name for a perfect pup, non?âÂ
âFull of fire and fight, yes indeed, that is a Blaine if Iâve ever seen one. And believe me, I have.â The Gym Leader laughed, reaching down to ruffle Aryâs perfect hair. âYouâve made a good choice, I believe.â Yes, indeed, such a good choice that behind the sunglasses, Blaine was nearly tearing up. It was a feeling he couldnât actually believe, that his grandson would name a Pokemon after him. A real honor.
Powerful, endearing, passionate and loving.
It just made him want to sob, damnit, and he turned away ruffling Charcoalâs fur with a small sniffle. Damn Ary, making him tear up like this. It was too much for him. He was proficient at hiding it, though, and he cleared his throat. âI am glad that I was able to bring you here, though. Even happier that you actually got a Pokemon, too!â
He nodded again, laughing a little. âIndeed, a perfect name for a perfect Pokemon.â It still made his eyes sting, damn him, but it was adorable and humbling also.
Strolling Around (Open)
She giggled again at the response she got from the Vulpix and happily held her. Sheâd have to see if she could find one of her own to catch, âPapa says I have that kind of effect on Pokemon!â She gave a happy grin.
Hearing him get confused, she blinked a bit. He hadnât heard of Gear Station before? âOh my name is Rosilynn.â She spoke up, hearing him call her âlittle oneâ, âAnd the Battle Subway is where my Papa and Uncle work! All kinds of trainers can challenge it if they want, but they have to get 20 wins in a row if they wanna get to my Papa or Uncle!â
She skipped along a bit happily, being careful so she wouldnât drop or startle the Pokemon in her arms, âPapa does single battles and Uncle does the Double battles. Thereâs even a train line for Multi battles to challenge them both!â
âThat's sweet.â Blaine responded, walking along slowly. Cinder was comfortable, now, and Blaine couldnât help but smile. It was nice to see his Pokemon get along so well with others. A good sign.
He listened to her closely, noting her name down in his head before thinking of something to say. âOh? Thatâs quite impressive, itâs a battle facility, then.â How cool would that be if he went there? Maybe Unova should be a place he visits, now that he knows about the existence of such places.
âMy goodness, and these battles happen on a train?â Blaine sounds genuinely surprised, and he tilts his head at the young girl. He was sure she wasnât lying, but how did bigger Pokemon fit in such places? Or maybe Pokemon like his Arcanine wouldnât be able to battle. Boo.
âQuite the impressive place it must be, though. I might have to go visit it sometime.â Yes, it was certainly on his list now. That seemed too good to be true. Then again, Kanto was a rather old-fashioned place in comparison to everywhere else. Besides Johto, of course.
meditations on flame | maxie & blaine
His patience was running out and the impatient fellow began to tap his foot. Surely he could remain cool in the heat; but it was something that he couldnât hold back - his patience was being tested to the limit. Usually, he wouldnât have bothered waiting like this but the prospect of awakening Groudon was too much for him to bear. He could feel the scowl creeping up his face as a silent hiss escaped him.
Surely they would come soon?
His eyes flickered upward at the quick motion of something large leaping to the top of the pass. An older man and an Arcanine, built with strength and finesse, it reminded Maxie of his own Camerupt. She was a creature of might and beauty and her Mega form even more so. He touched the Key Stone embedded in his glasses ever so briefly before turning towards the older man, whose words Maxie had just barely caught.
Who is he? How did he get here?
âGood day. What might you be doing up around here?â Uncertainty clouded his thoughts; the peak was blocked off by his grunts and yet this man came up all the way here. What was his purpose? Surely he was not from Aqua? The thought was banished almost immediately. Fool, he has a Fire-type, no self-respecting (hah) Aqua would ever had one.Â
This meant that he was an outsider. But didnât he know better than to disturb the work of the great Maxie? No matter, he would entertain the fellow a little to discern his motives. âI am Maxie; you are?â
Blaine smiled wide at the fellow, taking a moment to note this manâs name, as well as forming an answer for him. Maxie, was it? Hmm, that name sounded like something he should have known. But didnât.
âOh, me? Iâm not doinâ much. You running the show down there? Those youngsters donât seem to get the message. An old man doesnât wanna walk upâa mountain, you know?â Blaine chuckled, taking a moment to smooth out his moustashe. Orange eyes hid behind a pair of sunglasses, and studied the man in front of him a little better. The outfit he wore did resemble the gruntâs show down there...
âMy name is Blaine, by the way. Iâm visiting from Kanto, I heard there was a volcano here, and as a self-respecting Fire-Type Gym Leader, I just had to come here.â The bald man took off his hat, tilting his head forwards in a small bow before placing it back on his head. âI figured if those kids werenât gonna let me take the trolley up here, then I would just take Charcoal here up the side of the mountain!â
The Arcanine next to him barked in response, nuzzling into Blaineâs side. âBut, Maxie, was it? What exactly is going on down there? I know theyâre stopping me from coming up through the trolley, and while I should have battled them, I really didnât feel like doing so.â He was curious, now, having watched the man this entire time. He felt like something was up.

Aurelien nodded his head, clicking an empty ultra ball heâd bought just in case, watching the Growlithe disappear inside of it. The ball wobbled in his hand as Blaine spoke.
âI donât know,â he whispered, staring at the wobbling ball as it came to rest. âMe with something as big as Charcoal. Maybe I just wonât evolve him..â he mumbled. âHe wouldnât fit in my apartment. Iâd have to get another bigger one again.â
He laughed, standing up and clicking the button again to bring the pup outside. It wagged its tail ferociously and immediately jumped on Rex, the two tumbling around like siblings.
âI thought I might call him Blaine, so Iâll always have a little piece of you close at hand,â he said. It was grotesquely sentimental. âMaybe Blaise, canât give you too big a head after all,â he quipped.Â
Blaine watched the two Fire-Type Pokemon play, and it made his heart warm. He was glad that he could bring Ary here, and have him catch a Growlithe-
Name it Blaine?
A look of genuine shock came over his face, and for once he glanced at Ary, completely caught off guard. He wasnât serious, right?- Oh, of course. He was just messing with him. He grinned and let out a hearty laugh.Â
âToo big of a head? Oh, please, Ary, you wound me.â He put a hand on his chest, frowning in an exaggerated manner. âIt would be a wonderful name, though, heâs got enough energy to be me! Hahah!â How cute that would have been, though. Call the small Pokemon Blaine, to always have him around... That was really cute.
âDo whatever you want, Ary... Although I think Blaine is an absolutely handsome and perfect name.â Another laugh, and he smoothed out his mustache.
Apply Directly to the Burn | Aurelien & Blaine
He almost didnât want to catch the wild spirit, but as he laid back and let the Growlithe paw at his chest he knew he couldnât leave without taking him home. Blaine was so affectionate today, despite his rudeness and Charcoal nearly killing the poor Kalosian artist.
After a minute or two he sat himself up quickly, throwing the Growlithe backwards, catching him in both his arms and his lap, belly exposed.
âI just canât leave without you,â he said, nuzzling the floof, who yipped excitedly. âBlaine, do you think if I just use a ball heâll come with me?â
Ary took a few different pokeballs out of his bag, holding them. It felt wrong but necessary to capture anything so beautiful and wild. Rex looked at him anxiously, just waiting to officially have a brother, or son, she was too excited to pick but she would protect and raise the Growlithe like a tiger mother regardless.
Blaine let out a hearty laugh, watching his grandson and the Growlithe. âCâmon, just put it in a ball. Look, itâs almost begging you to!â It was true, with those puppy eyes it had.
Charcoal finally pulled herself away from her brother, joining the group and staring at the puppy on Aryâs chest. She wagged her tail, panting and sticking her tongue out. Blaine rested a hand on her fur, grinning as they watched. âSoon youâll have somethinâ as big as Charcoal here, Ary. You think you can handle it?â
He laughed at the thought of angry calls asking how to calm down an overexcited Arcanine. It would certainly make his day if he ever got that kind of a call. âDo you have a name for it? Or are you just going with Growlithe?â
