Took a couple hours between commissions today to draw a (very very) quick and messy sketch based on one of my very lovely stocking fills, in which Curufin spirals over a splinter being the only injury he gets at the First Kinslaying. I feel like I haven’t accomplished much this year, but I do have to remember that 90% of my belongings, including most of my craft supplies and yarn/fibre stash, was in a storage unit for half the year. So really this is like 6 months of crafting.

Update on my hobbit hole embroidery! Finally moved on to the bottom third, I can’t believe how far I’ve come! Now I’m just trying to figure out what flowers and plants to put where:)

My first venture into embroidery. This sat for like three years as a wip with just the sky and the door and parts of the timber frame done, but I’ve been obsessing over it in recent weeks and now I’ve got a tree and grass!! I’m honestly super proud of the grass!

I worked some more on the shading and textures of the smial! It doesn’t seem like much change, but many hours went into this and I’m still obsessed, so fingers crossed. Next up is figuring out the reflections on the widows.

Ok it took embarrassingly long to post Maedhros. Like a year or something. I had him sitting all finished in my drawing book all this time, but I was worried I’d made him too much of a drama queen. Then I realized that with Maedhros, there can never be too much drama. So here we are!

I’ve already posted each of them individually, but they belong together so I couldn’t help myself.

Amrod canonically has hair a few shades darker than Amras. This is them in the Fourth Age of Valinor after reembodiment, with Amras having lived through most of the First Age, while Amrod, who died with the burning of the ships, was left both relatively unburdened by the effects of the oath and unmoored by his horrible death—however inadvertently—at the hands of his father and brothers.

I’m currently working on Maedhros, though that’ll take a couple of days at least. The other brothers have already been posted.

Part of my ongoing series of portraits on the sons of Fëanor after reembodyment in fourth age Valinor.

Here are the others so far:

Maglor, the only son of Fëanor to survive the first age and return to Valinor by ship (Elrond dragged him along)

Celegorm, who I imagine was closest to the twins because of their shared love for the outdoors

Caranthir, who is glaring at everyone with extreme prejudice

Curufin, who has not yet understood that their time of evildoing is well and truly over

Amrod, who burned with the ships as a result of his father’s insanity and never got to set foot on Beleriand

I worked some more on Celegorm (here’s the earlier version), and since I’ve made significant changes I decided to make this a new post. This new version features actual values (light and shadow) on his face as well as his leather jerkin that I’m quite proud of (as opposed to the amorphous brown shading from the early version). It’s still the same painting. This is part of my ongoing series of portraits on the sons of Fëanor, here are the others:

Maedhros, too tired to deal with Celegorm‘s shit and yet dealing with it anyway

Maglor, him and Celegorm couldn’t be more different, but they grew close during the long years of Maedhros’ captivity

I’m going with the version where Amrod died on one of the ships when Fëanor had them burnt. Now, reembodied in Fourth Age Valinor, he grapples with the fact that he never got to see Beleriand, that he died because of his father’s madness, and that only one of his brothers opposed the burning of the ships. He’s young in the way none of the others are; even his twin, Amras, died hundreds of years after him. He sees that his brothers are heavily scarred by their experiences and their choices, and feels like an outsider looking in. They look at him and see the little brother they failed, and yet they can’t help but feel relief that he didn’t live to be consumed by the oath.

This is the fourth portrait in my series on the sons of Fëanor. Here are the others so far:

Maglor, the only one to come back to Valinor the long way, dragged there by Elrond

Celegorm who was very close to the twins and hated himself for taking part in the ship burning

Caranthir, who is thinking about fireproof fabric

Curufin, who does feel guilt but will likely never admit it

Imagine~ Sauron trying to be a good person. And having a very hard time of it because he has these things... I've heard they're called 'feelings'... Anyway. He's finding it a bit hard to deal with, but long story short, think Sauron getting a second chance and go from there.

Then you probably know exactly which moments I'm referencing here, but just in case,

No. 1 is Finrod, just before Annatar is about to have his first full on emotional breakdown, and the No.2 is Maedhros saying thank you. Which is fairly obvious. But still.

I love this fic so much!!!

(this is definitely not the last fanart I'm gonna do from this. Chapter 39 has some amazing moments that I am so gonna draw when I next have time~)
