God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.
-“Serenity Prayer” by Reinhold Niebuhr (via nessysweet)
I always begin my prayer in silence, for it is in the silence of the heart that God speaks. God is the friend of silence--we need to listen to God because it's not what we say but what He says to us and through us that matters. Prayer feeds the soul--and it brings you closer to God. It also gives you a clean and pure heart. A clean heart can see God, can speak to God, and can see the love of God in others. When you have a clean heart it means you are open and honest with God, you are not hiding anything from Him, and this lets Him take what He wants from you. If you are searching for God and do not know where to begin, learn to pray and take the trouble to pray every day. You can pray anytime, anywhere. You do not have to be in a chapel or a church. You can pray at work--work doesn't have to stop prayer and prayer doesn't have to stop work. You can also consult a priest or minister for guidance, or try speaking directly to God. Just speak. Tell Him everything, talk to Him. He is our Father, He is Father to us all whatever religion we are. We are all created by god, we are His children. We have to put our trust in Him and love Him, believe in Him, work for Him. And if we pray, we will get all the answers we need.
Mother Teresa taken from "A Simple Path"
The most important thing that a human being can do is pray, because we've been made for God and our hearts are restless until we rest with Him.
Sister Kateri
If you are asking me about getting by myself and spending long periods alone on my knees in prayer, then I would have to day that I am relatively a prayerless man, but if you accept praying without ceasing with God, day and night, under all circumstances--the pouring out of my heart to God in continual, unbroken fellowship--then I can say I pray without ceasing.
Max Reich (quote taken from "Faith Beyond Reason" by A.W. Tozer)
Praying hopelessly without faith. Dang man, there's no truth in that.
David Judy (one of my friends.)
No, we have confidence and boldness in God because He is God. We have learned enough about His character to know that we can lean upon Him fully.
A.W. Tozer in "Faith Beyond Reason"
Have you ever thought to yourself, "I'm praying to the exact same God Elijah prayed to"?
Francis Chan in "Forgotten God".
Read First Kings 17 - Second Kings 2 to learn about Elijah.
No one can expect to understand and receive the holiness of God who is not often and long alone with God.

Psalm 19:12
God's child can conquer everything by prayer. Is it any wonder that Satan does his utmost to snatch that weapon from the Christian, or to hinder him in the use of it? How now does Satan hinder prayer? By temptation to postpone or curtail it, by bringing in wandering thoughts and all sorts of distractions; through unbelief and hopelessness.
"The Prayer Life" by Andrew Murray
The key to prayer is simply praying.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
Colossians 4:2 (via whenyouholdmyown)
The enemy uses all his power to lead the Christian, and above all, the minister, to neglect prayer.
"The Prayer Life" by Andrew Murray
It is not that they absolutely do not pray; they pray everyday--but they have no joy in prayer, as a token of communion with God which shows that God is everything to them.
"The Prayer Life" by Andrew Murray
Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not lose heart, saying, "In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man. There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him , saying, 'Give me legal protection from my opponent.' For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, 'Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.'" And the LORD said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?"
Luke 18:1-8
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of Him.
1 John 5:14-15
