had some Big Feelings after therapy regarding existence and legacies, so i channeled it all into a little sinosauropteryx on a tiny piece of scrap paper. ink and watercolor sketch, about 2x2 inches.

SUPERNATURAL | S02E03 "Bloodlust"
I see a lot of nobles out here who think "Well I have a 10,000 square foot castle, surely that's enough space for a knight." WRONG. Knights are WORKING BREEDS, they need to go on regular quests to prove their fealty and come home horribly wounded. I have seen SO MANY adopted knights DESPONDENT because their liege keeps them cooped up in a castle and won't let them go on quests. If you want an armored warrior who will be happy in your castle you need to get a castellan. They're closely related to the knight breed but adapted to the castle environment.

GUNS TOO BIG
Come on, boys. My father wants to see you. I think we'll pass, thanks.
Day 21: A poem on nicknames
I called you by a manās name
so I could hold it nearer,
ask for your brotherās hoodie
from your shoulders
Run my nose over shed cornsilk curls
Kyle
Come a little closer in the schoolyard so I forget
we arenāt one body
Iām always bigger than what I love
and wish I could've been made easier to hold
Day 20: Use a mythical animal as a metaphor for a contemporary personās life and include one spoken phrase
HeĀ
emerges
from a wooded tomb
like a god you can touch
Places his face in her bandaged hands
āMe tangereā he says,
mane a snowy down,
new robes at her feet
The cleanest sheāll ever be
Dead tonightĀ
tomorrow
reborn
Day 19: Poem based on Florilegium by Sylvia Legris with help from Language of Flowers
He took me in a bed of weeds,
cornsilk torn upon crushed cornflowers,
and I am not sure why theyāre called bachelorās buttons
Day 18: Pieces of a longer poem w/dramatic and operatic imagery and rhyme
There she idles in the cloister
echoing silence from each passing sister
The sun, flat and wan, blanches early French winter
She recalls the jewels that once bled from stained glass
No longer pulsing with emerald light like low water
Her prayers grow faint, Godās name heavier on her tongue
In her throat, faith goes, long-gone
I envision this as a piece of a longer poem about a nun who buries herself alive and turns into a hare, choosing what she'll become. AAABC rhyme pattern? maybe AABCA or AABAC?
Notes to self: witchcraft as lesbianism, tearing off habit-play with that word. Nakedness, soft skin, she grows wild and runs in the night
Day 17: Response to another poem
<<After Florence Welchās āMonsterā>>
A chance breeze through our open window
Blowing limp petals across the kitchen
I find I donāt mind them now,
these messes
I donāt want you to know
how often Iāve echoed
Ā write that downĀ in my head
at funerals
baptisms
in grocery store lines
walking past two men in loveĀ
with themselves
Crying over a girl who was never mine,
taking a grief that doesnāt yet belong to me
and crying over that, too
Memories I donāt have
but steal all the same
prayers to a god I only name
when no other soul will listen
Iām afraid Iāve forgotten how to write before I even got any good at it
Day 16: desc. something that cannot speak and what it has taught you
Exposed Aggregate
Held together, weāre softer
than loosely trying to keep shape
on our own.
Donāt walk through this earthĀ
without stopping yourself
and allowing idle beauty
to do as it does,
not once asking the world
to love it back
These stones, held in place by mortar,
are content with their lifelong neighbors.
It shows in how their rounded edges
pour around each other
like trees too shy to touch at the canopy
Day 15: Muses on what love is but isnāt romantic
I look at pictures from your wedding and laugh like itās my own
For the last three days, Iāve walked to work
seen the cherry blossomsāthin on the pavement
Morning light through low-hung heat
Looked up, past it
And smiled
Tears thick on coffee-brown lashes
On my phone, youāre dancing to Abba for the fortieth time
I play it twice more, back-to-back
in awe of your hand with the tambourineĀ
And your husbandās on a can of cider
Iāve gained four pounds since Saturday, Iām so full of love
Remember? How we used to fit together?
Your thick, cropped blonde and my uneven brown?
Like the line where oceans meet
I cant tell you what makes us similar, just that weāre perfectly matched
Day 14: a poem that similarly bridges (whether smoothly or not) the seeming divide between poetry and technological advances.
I used to think soulsĀ
could only be sucked out of you in movies
I was wrong
Iām in bed with the bastard every night.
What was I like
when I knew how to be bored?
I canāt write
byĀ
scrolling
Day 13: describe a landscape from your childhood
There was this Z-shaped loft in my fatherās home office
across from it, a lofted closet
with a mattress-sized hollow on top
He slept there when he was a boy, opposite two of his brothers
The bedroom where my aunt slept became mine
We share a name and bed frame between us
One room over, where the youngest aunt sleptĀ
And the basement where the eldest brother slept
I wish I could recall
The few moments
When we were children together
So new to the worldĀ
weād created for each other
