I hate how it's always "stop letting your teenagers drink energy drinks!!!" Incredibly violent take of mine but I actually don’t think you need to relate to a story in any way to enjoy it. You can enjoy a story even if you can’t point at a character and insert some aspect of your personality or identity into them. In fact I would argue the need for a character like that to be present in every single story you experience is a sign of stunted growth.

my to do list is what keeps me alive. who would do the next thing on my to do list if i went away forever ? like the barrel of the danaides, my to do list fills up with new things very day, and no matter how many boxes i check, how many heads i cut, in place of one two heads will grow. there is never enough time. i look this enormous hideous hydra in her many eyes of her twisted heads, this hydra, my to do list, and one of its heads comes close. “who will fight me if you’re gone” it says with a lopsided grin
