i am not a psychiatrist but i do find it really weird how autism checklists are so often focused on "outward" signs of autism rather than what is going on internally. i don't know how to explain it but "do you make eye contact with other people" feels like a much less relevant question than "how does it feel when you have to make eye contact with other people?"
I'm so fascinated by people who seem to believe that analyzing media is somehow taking the joy out of it. Like. Do you not enjoy thinking? Does taking stuff apart and figuring out how it works not give you a hit of dopamine? And you get mad when you see people having fun in this way? What a sad, miserable way to engage with the world.

hivemind full aware that dyketron 3000 is trying to get their ass while said lesbian is also aware they are manipulating her in the ways they can. all parties still choosing to play with danger not only for their self-interest but for whatever glimpse of human connection the other can offer. the desperation of it all, how much bleeds through and how far one would bend for it, beautiful to me.

sorry but I actually do love that pluribus is “slow” I love that it lingers a bit too long and makes you watch characters walk all the way across rooms and load things into their cars and listen to entire voicemails I love that a 50 minute episode might have a few dozen lines of dialogue I love that it’s nearly impossible for it to be a “second screen” show maybe I love slow!!!!!!!
As I understand it (thanks to my big-brained friend sam notedchampagne ily sam) one of the main things this show is trying to communicate is the real cost that everything we see done has. Work, time, effort, coordination - when the hive is getting Carol her 'pirate lady', we see her walk to the platform, we are made to consider the expertise it takes to make a plane work by seeing every turbine turn on; we see the plane take off, we see her arrive at the airport, we see her take a shower, we see the multiple people preparing her outfit and hair, we see her get dressed. When Carol asks for her supermarket back, we see the trucks, we see the dozen or so people putting it back together, we see the clock tick up an hour or so. Pluribus is slow specifically because it wants to make you sit with that, and thus understand what it means you see the characters engaging with the hive and asking it for things.
To Carol, the other humans, and the viewer, it may seem like the hive are miracle-workers. But they're not. Every single thing they do requires tangible effort and resources. And all of it has a cost.

Hot take but I don’t actually think Carol Sturka is a mean lesbian. She’s not mean. Yeah she pokes fun at her fans in private but she also keeps their fanmail and spends hours with them at signings. Yeah she complains to Helen a lot, but she still goes on their weird vacations and deeply values Helen’s opinions. All of Carol’s “meanness” would be called bluntness or humor or righteous indignation if she was a man. Why do people talk about her like she’s catty. Why are people perpetuating the idea that a woman being honest about her anger is mean
carol is the loneliest character I think I've ever encountered in fiction. she's one of 14 beings left on the planet, and the one that has 7 billion plus bodies is giving her the cold shoulder. So she's the only person in her whole city, with only wolves and her wife's grave for company. there are 12 other immune people in the world, and she just found out that they have a groupchat that they specifically voted to exclude her from. the one guy she was within driving distance of is so keen to get back to his parties that he can't hide his disappointment when she suggests sticking around for even a few more hours, and she has to pretend that she didn't really want to stay anyway. to spare his feelings! because she doesn't want this one guy who kind of tolerates her to stop being willing to see her at all! like. fucking hell!
