i read 8980 a couple days ago and i'm just now getting around to seeing people's thoughts on it. i feel like a lot of people neglect to mention that, while it is extremely heavy and well done horror, it is real horror. it is not a story that exists in a vacuum to be admired from afar and then to move on, like most scps that exist in the public eye. it isn't just, really really scary or something. it's completely and utterly dread inducing and gut wrenching and horrible (in the emotional sense). it is something that can happen in real life. it is something that has happened and will happen again. the way yossipossi wrote this particular piece is extremely moving in how much it grips you with its message that it is something extremely real. it is not your average horror story, and i feel the way people talk about it (even just in passing remarks or jokes) does not truly convey 8980's true nature.

if you have not read it and plan on reading it. please please please heed the content warnings. it really does mean each and every one of them. it is a fantastic piece but it is a heavy one.

The above is a joke about classical art and architecture.

In antiquity, in the Grecco-Roman cultural world across multiple centuries, marble was a common and extravagant material used for sculpture and architecture both. In the centuries since the Roman empire, much of these works fell into ruin, from lack of maintenance or from explicit quarrying for materials by the people that lived there. Between the 1400s and 1800s, archaeology developed and classical art became popular again, as a direct reference to antiquity. This lead to the rise of the Neoclassical movement, a style of art and architecture that sought to directly emulate the stark white marble and architectural forms of Roman art. Cities like Washington DC in the United States were built in this style, to evoke Rome.

It was only with further advances in archaeology was it discovered that Classical architecture and statuary was not white: it was painted. Buildings were colorful and statues were painted to appear as lifelike as possible. But the paints were far less equipped to survive the ages compared to the marble, so the visuals did not persist.

This became a piece of common trivia in the early twenty-first century. Perceptions of classical art are locked to the stark white seen in museums and in neoclassical buildings, so this deviation from trained expectations made for a striking bit of information, similar to dinosaurs having feathers (in violation of previous expectations).

In comparison, Brutalism, an architectural style from the mid 20th century, is explicitly a dreary, colorless brutal style. The drab grey of concrete is the intended feature, made to evoke utilitarianism and drab reality, without ostentation beyond form and function.

The joke is imaging Brutalism as having the same "lost" color as classical architecture. It would be equivalently shocking. However, Brutalism is well documented and was developed in living memory. It is known that there was no colorful paint, which would be a complete violation of its intended themes.

Rocky love Grace voice statement.

I was listening to City Of Stars on repeat and kept thinking about aroace grace. I love grace who is happy without a relationship, who doesn't need any romantic relationship to be fulfilled, but... I also keep thinking about Grace being a hopeless romantic. Grace who keeps hearing about love love love and nothing else, Grace who keeps waiting for that one true love, Grace who was more in love with the idea of romance than his actual girlfriend. Grace who just doesn't understand why it doesn't come naturally to him, why he can't seem to have what everyone else wants, what he keeps dreaming of. Maybe he thought Stratt may be the one for him. Maybe the idea of a big swooping romance with Stratt makes him want to claw his eyes out. Grace doesn't know what he wants.

He wanted to experience romance so bad, to understand what it was like to fall in love, what everyone keeps talking about... and now he never will.

Grace mourning his one true love back on Earth, someone who doesn't exist and never will. Grace mourning something that was never his in the first place.

Waiting for that one true love, and mourning this someone who doesn’t exist and never will. I experience this often when i realistically think about wether i would actually want to be in a relationship or not. The idea of romantic and sexual attraction often feels like distant fiction, and i hear and see it everywhere and dream about it happening to me and suddenly i realize that its fun to explore in the context of my own fantasy, but i dont feel it, i dont even actually want it?
