writing advice i live by (as someone who writes as a hobby):
your first draft is allowed to be awful. let it be awful, you can always improve it later.
if you’re writing as a hobby, it should be enjoyable and not feel like a chore.
if you’re stuck on a scene and can’t get the words out, skip it. write a note for yourself to come back to it later and move on to the next scene. sometimes you just need to look away from the scene and come back to it with a fresh pair of eyes for the words to flow again.
that also applies to finding the right words and metaphors.
consuming media is one of the best cures for writer’s block.
another thing that helps writer’s block is asking yourself: “what is the most fun/best/most devastating thing that could happen next?”
do not rush your writing. quality work takes time, so don’t ever beat yourself up for being a “slow writer”. it’s always worth taking your time building the right plot and finding the right words to make something you’re proud of.
you’re allowed to take a break from your writing. writing is hard work and burn out happens. take a break if you need, and come back to it when you’re ready. writing is not a race.
writing a story/plot you love > molding your plot to trendy tropes you don’t enjoy.
when you’re writing as a hobby, your work doesn’t need to be perfect. it just needs to make you happy. that’s it.
having more words doesn’t mean higher quality work. don’t feel bad for having a low word count.
if you like your own story, chances are others will too.
Wait I just an ask but to add onto mommy dean, consider: boy mom dean
As in everything is the same except Dean has every toxic or weird boy mom trait. Getting jealous of girls Sam likes, telling stories about Sam saying he wanted to marry Dean as a kid, pouting about Sam leaving him one day to get married. You get the picture.
So basically canon but more overt lol

dean is such a boymom it's not even funny.
on the epic love story of sam and dean podcast, they mention dean calling ellen after sam was attacked by gordon as a "mom calling another mom after their kids were mean to each other," and it's sooo true.
dean is absolutely a boy mom in that he takes suchhhhhh pride in being sam's one and only. sam's first.
there are those tiktoks of boymoms being like "to my future daughter-in-law: he loved me first." or "he'll always love me most." and...yeahhhh...that's dean.
i wrote a post about boymom fem!dean and i fear he wouldn't change much as a man. his strategy is definitely different, but the feelings are THERE.
the night sam has his first date, he doesn't tell dean. he just goes out with sarah from geometry and when he comes back he can't keep it in and starts blushingly telling dean all about this date and dean is...crushed?
he shouldn't feel crushed, but he absolutely does as sam rambles about how she had this lip gloss that was kinda gross but wanted sam to hold her hand and his hand was sooooo sweaty and--
he thinks he's bummed that sam didn't tell him--does sam not trust him or something?--and there's definitely some of that, but it's also the...not-dean of it all. sam didn't ask for his advice, he didn't ask for dean to drive them anywhere, he just cut dean out nice and easy. like he doesn't need dean, at all.
his baby is all grown up, and moving on with someone else.
wh--no, not like that, that would be...weird. dean's just bummed sam didn't tell him. yeah. that must be it. that's why it sits so weird in his gut and why dean plays up his ribbing "ooh sammy's got a girlfriend" to 1000 to hide the sudden pit in his stomach.
he will FREQUENTLY "forget" sam has a girl over, or knock on the front door of her house (sam didn't tell dean where she lived), or blow up sam's cellphone when he's older and be like "sam! sam! hi sam :) sorry i need you it's really important we gottaaaa go. like right now. (lives are on the line.) so like we gotta go." and sam will grumblingly leave and dean is like "yeah so that was mostly made up. dad said we have to go check out a lead (a lie). the cops got tipped off about dad and we have to move motels (partial truth). i missed you (he doesn't say this, but yeah). you forgot your lunch (dean gets him takeout and he becomes the envy of the cafeteria for the next week)."
if you get more than four drinks in dean, he'll start thinking about sammy wanting to marry him when he was young. if you get more than six drinks in him, dean'll start telling the story to whomever's close enough to listen.
he misses being the most important person in sam's life--the only person in sam's life, really. when sam leaves for stanford, dean and john get really drunk quite often, and one of those nights, dean is slurring his words and he's laying down with his cheek on the couch and he's like, "sammy wanted to marry me. he made me swear never to get married without asking him first, because he wanted to be my first husband. i told him boys can't get married but you told him brothers can't get married, d'you remember that? he cried and he cried and he cried."
and the way dean looks so hollow is different from a normal reminiscence so john doesn't dare say anything as dean keeps rambling about what happened to us and when did he grow up?
if sam and dean in "what is and should never be" verse were still weird about each other, dean is definitely telling the story about sammy wanting to marry him when they were four and eight. or making some weird joke about how "well if sammy can't get the best, he might as well settle, right?" and sam kinda laughs but jess is like ??? um.
nine-year-old dean gets cuteness aggression with sam and gets genuinely upset when sam talks about the future he wants to have. they do an assignment in school about where they want to be in thirty years and sam comes with a very serious essay (he's five) about what he wants to do and be and have and dean points immediately at the crayon woman standing next to crayon sam and goes "who's that??" and sam is like (forlorn, bc it can't be dean, he learned that last year) "that's my wife." and dean is like "!!!! hey no !!!!! you're gonna live with ME (and dad) but mostly ME! and we're gonna be HAPPY!"
and oh absolutely sam is never beating the "mama's boy" allegations. refer back to weird mama's-boy sam in a fem!dean AU post linked above.
he is flopping down on dean's lap after a long day with a long suffering sigh and burying his face in dean's thigh and he and dean bitch at each other because they're still brothers, but dean scratching fingers along sam's scalp and sam's eyes are fluttered closed.
dean tags along on sam's next date in the booth behind him and when sam spots him, he's annoyed, but dean catches sam smiling the rest of the night, and afterwards he lets dean pull him in under his arm easier than anything.
he tells girls more than once that they "just don't understand" and with anything they do: "well my brother does it differently."
if dean doesn't like a girl, sam'll break up with her. he'll pretend to roll his eyes and ignore dean's increasing annoyance with her, but any flaw dean sees in her, sam can't unsee. he trusts dean's judgement implicitly, even if he never tells him this, and within the week, the girl is gone.
one time, he even says "god, my brother was right about you," and this sends her TO THE FUCKING MOON because she KNEW those two freaks were fucking. (she's wrong, now, but she definitely won't be later.)
when sam dies in cold oak, heaven for him is his eyes closed in the backseat of the impala while dean drives, humming under his breath as the sun warms his skin and his brother's body is close, close, close.
