here's some headcanons for the children of minor gods/godesses

glaucus cabin (sea god and of fishermen)

gets picked on a lot for their father being born mortal

great at fishing

wary of physical magic (cause of circe)

extensive knowledge of herbs

gets along well with poseidon and dionysus kids

can breathe in water for a period of times

great aim

momus cabin (god of mockery, humor and criticism, etc)

everyone is so tired of them pfft

they're not actually that bad

WILL tear you to shreds if you get on their bad side

bullies ares cabin cause they dgaf

if you learn ther soft side their humor turns more lighthearted and will make you feel better if they've went to far

can create illusions of you're embarrassing moments for enemies or you will constantly hear laughing

their father is either nice to them sometimes or then completely ridicules them

besties with khaos cabin

simps for aphrodite kids

automatically understands literature references, riddles, etc even if they know they dont. a lot better than athena kids who actually have to learn about it

sacred animal are monkeys (idk if this is true or not)

morpheus cabin (god of dreams, sleep)

very melancholy and upset for no reason

often have hooded eyes that can appear blue, gray or purple

talks very slowly

can transfer dreams or show them to others

can create their own dreams kinda like lucid dreaming

can put people to sleep

also knows people's dreams as in their future goals

moprheus kids can grows temporary wings if they are near death or in the underworld

hypnos kids are kinda protective over them because of the ancestry between the gods

morpheus and iris used to be together which makes things awkward between their kids

selene cabin (goddess of the night and moon)

very close with their mother and uncle helios

i imagine selene as being very loving, protective but gentle

selene kids usually have very dark eyes and long lashes

are a bit nocturnal

can control moonlight

can solidify moonlight but only for them, exampe a river being shined on by the moonlight, selene's children can walks on top of the water as long as the moonlight touches it

selene's children are regarded as being very beautiful

during full moons, selene kids act very strange. they're more powerful, animals are scared of them or often have visions, etc

sacred animal is wolves, can communicate with them

can read/understand/speak with arabic and hieroglyphs

often have birthmarks or beauty marks in the shape of a half moon

they light up and glow once they are claimed

Omg this is such a good idea!!! I love that they’re just vibing with their lethal gardening tools. Having like a hoe that can chop monsters’ heads off or a deadly rake. I really love that for them.

Oh!! There also really good with poisons and some of their weapons have poison in the blades so if you get nicked you’re done for.

Making the hc with Demeter's kid a little more sad: Deleter make sure her kids really goes unnoticed after the deal the Big Three make just in case, especially after Zeus killed (tried to kill) the dk Angelo. Also they were all careful just in case the prophecy wasn't understood correctly and could concern one of them. One more HC: Katie's birthday fell in the Battle of the Labyrinth and she was super stressed the WHOLE time.

OH I LOVE THIS! Honestly, I go back and forth on whether I HC Demeter as a good mom, but I do love this theory of her purposely trying to hide her kids from the other elder gods. I can only imagine her watching the Big Three kids being executed after WWII and just being like “Nope, no. Not my kids. Not ever.”

And Katie must have been praying SO hard Percy was the prophecy child. I can only imagine...

the thing about blackwashing the pjo characters in particular is that it is completely justified in the facts that a) pjo itself has exactly 1 black character, and that character dies in an explosion, so it's not like black fans have many options for characters to project onto, and b) race isn't a major part of any of the pjo's characters' storylines.

Whitewashing Leo, Piper, and Hazel is a problem not just because it takes away valuable and scarce representation, but because it also just doesn't make sense with their lives. Leo speaks Spanish with his mom, and the two of them lived humble lives. Those are distinctly Mexican experiences. Piper's storyline involves discovering her own self-worth through an attachment with her culture. Hazel's childhood wouldn't make any sense whatsoever if she were white. The exception here is Frank, who doesn't have a very strong connection with his culture, but whose identity is still important to young Asain people who grew up loving to have a character that looks like them.

Meanwhile, if you interpret Percy as Afro-Latino, absolutely nothing in the story is contradicted. Nothing changes. Actually, it makes perfect sense, considering the fact that his neighborhood is densely populated by Latine people. Even with Annabeth, no part of her story stops making sense if she is a PoC, considering that the gods seem to canonically be able to produce offspring with unnatural eye/hair colors, with Piper (who would traditionally have brown eyes) having multicolored irises.

TLDR: Blackwashing and whitewashing are two very different things, and even if you're an "authorial intent" kind of person, nothing in the books outright states the race of many major white characters.

A lot of y’all are…weird and racist. You can accept that Grover can be Black without question, a matter I will always side-eye y’all on, but you can’t accept that Annabeth, Percy or, anyone else can also be Black/POC. It’s giving “I don’t mind diversity as long as none of the main characters.” and that’s peek racism when it comes to film and literature. What happens if Percy and Annabeth are casted as Black or as POC for the live action? Are you gonna throw a fit and say that the show was ruined? Even though the characters are the exact same as they were in the books??? If anything about them being depicted in a different way has you up in arms then you should really reevaluate your life.

Headcanon that it’s now an inside joke with them and whenever someone asks what sort of monsters they’re facing Frank goes “New Yorkers”. Hazel has an issue with it because it makes her die of laughter right before they go into battle

The things is, it would be so easy to change all this JUST SLIGHTLY and make the Aphrodite kids just as badass as everyone else, while still maintaining the very appearance oriented way they think.

IE. Putting on their highheels because they double as weapons. Winged eyeliner sharp enough to cut you.

Instead of being afraid of breaking a nail and sitting out because of that, breaking a nail in the heat of battle should fuel them.

As for Aphrodite’s disgusting comments about the war… That doesn’t even make sense.

Why would the goddess of LOVE and BEAUTY (among other things) be so dismissive of something so awful? Sure, I can see her wanting to point out the love that’s always present in times of war, but that’s clearly not what Rick is doing here. 

He could very easily have had her talking about soldiers saying goodbye to their sweethearts. Or how people fought harder because they were fueled by their love for their families and people they wanted to protect.

But OP is right, Rick is absolutely dismissing them and he clearly wants us to as well.

Except Piper. 

Because she’s ~different~. She doesn’t care about how she looks, she doesn’t want to stand out, she doesn’t want to dress up or wear make up. And somehow that makes her “better” than the other Aphrodite kids?????

Let’s not forget that RR brought the Aphrodite Cabin into battle in The Last Olympian for a joke about shopping and then disappeared (sans Silena) until Silena’s memorial service exactly 200 pages later.

I’m sorry i’m adding on to this but i need to.

I’m pretty sure this is why I’ve always had a problem with piper, something about her just didn’t sit right with me in HoO. & I’m pretty sure it’s stems from how here siblings were portrayed. I get that she’s different from her family, in that she doesn’t particularly care about her looks, and she’s pretty powerful in her charmspeak, but the fact is that it feels like (at least to me) he’s basically intentionally put an entire group of people down, just to build one character up. And yeah he started probably long before the idea of piper as a character came to be, but he didn’t bother to fix it, other than with piper and sorta silena.

It feels like he pretty much ran with the idea that the rest of them were shallow and spineless, and basically 2 dimensional, just so piper would come across as more 3D and ‘real’. SERIOUSLY, piper would have seemed 3 dimensional anyways, she’s always been a strong character. but it’s these ‘shallowness’ and ‘pettyness’ concepts, and the intentional degrading of her siblings that have bled into the idea of the aphrodite cabin over the series that i know realize have weighed down on my opinion of piper.

and this add on is all personal, but it both upsets me and makes me feel bad. cause it’s not her i hate, its the ‘image’ of her cabin i dislike, and i dislike rr for paining it that way. and even with her introduction doing just about nothing to fix it.
