Pet peeve i have when it comes to poc!Percy reasonings is pointing out her profiling and criminalization makes more sense if she experiences racism but not how her actual character reflects her nonwhite-coding.Quit stopping at her facing racialized discrimination and mention her feeling most comfortable when she's surrounded by and has personal connections to minorities and her DIScomfort when around powerful and privileged people and how her personality reads like someone raised in a nonwhite household and neighbourhood too👎🏼I'd rather she just be a white boy who's a genuinely a good ally if your 'Percy of color' is gonna sacrifice everything defining Percy's character
Poc Percy actually makes a lot of sense, and it's sad that because of the series, we usually see fanart of Walker!Percy now.
Percy being a poc (black specifically) just makes loads of moments better, imo.
Like it doesn't make sense that the news would see Grover, Annabeth and Percy (all white) and think only Percy's a terrorist and that the others are innocent but if Percy was black it'd make total sense. He also refers to some kids he doesn't like as "rich" and "white." It doesn't make sense as a distinction if Percy's white.
This one is a little more vauge, but he says that Ares' bike seat looks like it's made of "Caucasian human skin" and not just human skin.
Also, the fact that the dead confederates like Annabeth and Clarrise (sort of) but don't like Percy would make sense. And it's funny to imagine them :
Confederates : We don't like this one
Percy : Yeah, why's that?
Confederates: Um...Well.. you see- it's
Percy : It's because I'm black, isn't it?
Confederates: No! Nononononono... it's because...you're from New York right?
Percy : Mhm
Confederates: That's why
Percy : Whatever
Lastly, I think his dynamic with Rachel's dad makes more sense, as well. Obviously, Rachel's dad could just be protective of her, or a snob who doesn't like Percy because he's a "poor troublmaker," but the way they interact was always very odd.
"'So... I take it your friend isn't coming to St Thomas?' That's what Mr Dare called me. Never Percy. Just 'Your friend' or 'Young man' if he was talking to me, which he rarely did"
Of course, it's just a headcanon. It doesn't need to fit the book or media at all. It's just fun, to imagine.
Desi Percy Jackson
we seriously need to talk more about desi percy (deh-see, coming from desh --> meaning "land" or "country" in sanskrit; i've also heard it used simply to mean "native"). when i say desi, i mean south asian: india, bangladesh, pakistan, sri lanka, etc. admittedly, i'm most familiar with indian clothes and accessories, as that's what i grew up with ( though, my personal knowledge is a little different from mainland india, which is already incredibly diverse, with each part of it being distinct and unique- any fellow fiji-indians in the house? )
i mean, seriously, the stunning clothes?? kurtas, sherwanis, etc., as well as the more historic garments that men wore, or the more artistic interpretations that some fashion companies are playing around with.
DO YOU SEE MY VISION??? the bangles?? and there are SO MANY different types. beaded, glass, bells, woven.
he'd also rock traditional women's attire too! could you imagine the viel/shawl/dupatta/odhni/orni(etc.) as ocean waves or giving the general aesthetic of water? flowing lehengas, sari/saree's, salwar kameezs'.
not to mention one of favorite accessories, ankelts! pial/payal, pijab, etc. even ghungaroo, i love imagining percy as a dancer.
to say nothing of other jewelry and accessories ( earrings, jhumkas, different types of piercings --> HELLO punk/alt percy using nose/ear piercings in tandem with his usual attire )
or HENNA ( mehndi )?? the images i'm showing are more simplistic, but just imagine full, intricate designs with ocean motifs, or even flowers and other flora- he's shown appreciation for nature and gardens. i'd like to imagine grover or rachel especially helping him with the designs. maybe he'd add nods to his other friends too, little symbols that represent them. things written in green/latin? or even sanskrit/hindi/urdu etc. i can imagine him not only applying it to his hands and feet but also full sleeves ( he fell asleep at one point when rachel was applying it and he woke up to his entire arm being absolutely covered in swirling patterns ). perhaps even on his back or sides! the best part about henna is that it's not permanent, so you can try on as many designs as you want! have y'all seen people adding henna designs on their jeans?? percy would eat that UPPP.
again, do y'all SEE MY VISION???
am i being incredibly self-indulgent and projecting parts of my own culture into one of my favorite characters of all time? yes. yes, i am. i love seeing people adding their personal habits or sharing their culture through characters they love, and percy was one of the first characters i could do this to as well. 11 year old me read dark wavy hair and tanned skin and went, "👀brown? desi? just like me fr?" and i think that's the beauty of percy's character! he's like spiderman, he can be anyone !! <3
"On pjotwt if you call Percy poc or queer they will shoot you and feed your flesh to the dogs"
Sometimes I forget that headcanons are so personal and I don't share the exact same thoughts with the entirety of the pjo fandom. You mean to tell me there are people out there who think jason is straight? Percy isn't poc? Clarisse and Silena weren't a couple? Valgrace isn't a thing? Literally what
i know a lot of people wanted poc percy and i see you guys, you're all valid and i accept you but i saw a few people being really aggrerssive towards walker being the choice and im begging you please leave the kid out of it he's 13
Romani Percy Jackson my beloved
this would be amazing. i need art stat
