ah shit im sorry man, my schedule for the week is all booked
Writing a slow burn fic
oh you like history? name everything that ever happened
“I’ll help you.” “You will be the one to turn.”
Goddess of Compassion.
I really hope we get an actual Dark Rey who harnesses her inner demons to become more powerful and empathetic. You no longer fear the Dark once you have become it.
A commissioned Dark couple, by Rachel Xin (x).
Kylo and Rey: *fighting again*
The force trying hook these dumbasses up:
Let’s talk about this scene
I think we can all agree she is training. But what I have noticed is that it doesn’t look like it’s going well. Just before she throws her lightsaber, she makes this face : (gif by @jcdirey )
It looks like anger or frustration. And if you look at the shot just after, you can see that the tree in front of her is cut in half and already smoking (meaning that it was cut a little bit before she throws her saber in frustration? Anger ?)
What could it mean ?
Let’s also talk about the fact that she is alone. I know she can’t really train with other people like Finn because it’s a specific kind of training that involves the Force. But I think, in light of what Daisy said about Rey feeling separated of the group in some way because of her powers, it represents something. And it also allows a certain someone to appear out of thin air... It could be an explanation for her frustration ?
I’m probably extrapolating about a force bond session because I really want to see it happen, but still, I am wondering why Rey is cutting trees alone in the middle of a forest.
What if the reason why Kylo looks so concerned in that picture of them fighting on the Death Star wreckage is because Rey has been possessed by Palpatine and hE'S TRYING TO SAVE HER????
I could buy into that theory Anon. 👀
Ben could be fighting to try and subdue her here in order to try and help her break free from palps. Now that we have dark Rey looming over the narrative it would make sense for her to be “possessed” by or at least under the influence of Palpatine at some point.
We know already, based on what we’ve seen so far and barring any radical characterization changes, that if Ben is fighting Rey, and it’s been confirmed now that he does, he will not be fighting her with the intent to actually harm her but only to defend himself or subdue her for a greater purpose. So it would make sense if something else is going on here. 👀
Everyone has darkness and the potential for darkness within them. To pretend that a person, especially a woman, is pure sweetness and light and virtue, is to reduce female characters to the Victorian "angel in the house" trope. A heroic woman is one possessed of all the virtues - femininity, domesticity, love, healing, goodness, and if she has power certainly she can only use it for the purpose of the Right Side! And if she fails in any of this, she must be out of her mind - mad, hysterical, evil. The mad woman in the attic. The whore to contrast with the virgin.
But women aren't like that. It's possible to have dark, negative, destructive impulses without being evil or mad. It's possible to be tempted, to change, to try out identities without being one thing or another. Male characters discovered this a long time ago - as long ago as Achilles and Odysseus and Aeneas. But it feels like in many ways female characters in mainstream media are still catching up. (I say in mainstream media because of course there are many works of literature mainly with highly complex and ambiguous female characters.)
So I am delighted and excited by the prospect of dark!Rey. Not because I think it's likely she's going to go 100% evil (that makes no sense) or because she's going to look awesome in black with a red sabre sword (though she will). But because Rey has never been purely light (as Ben has never been purely dark) and this side of her is so interesting to explore. It makes her more of a multifaceted character, more human, more relatable. To pretend because she's a hero she can't be difficult, challenging, even dislikable at times is short-sighted. It's also massively misinterpreting the character of Rey that we've already seen in TFA and TLJ. Rey has never once, not for a second, been a pure, virtuous, sweet baby without flaws. And honestly, why would anyone want her to be? Very suspect.
Anyway, whatever form dark!Rey comes in - real transformation for her, manipulation, vision, whatever - I am SO here for it.
No matter what happens tonight I will forever be grateful for that faithful day at the beginning of 2014 when I stumbled upon my first Jonsa fanfiction.
I just want to say thank you to every person who contributes to making this fandom the wonderful place that it is.
To those who write the cleverest, most articulate and far-sighted metas and analysis; to those who write the amazing fanfiction that is really the reason I’m here right now writing this post; to the artists that bless us with the wonderful art that never ceases to amaze me, to those who make gifsets and edits and videos; to those who reblog, like, leave kudos, comment, you are the soil of the fandom itself.
So thank you, Jonsa fam. “Where will we go?”
I get the feeling by comments I’ve gotten that we’re supposed to feel like we were wrong, that we lost somehow? And I always just shrug because my only regret is that I didn’t know about Jonsa until last fall and didn’t get involved with the Jonsa fam/writing fics until late last year. I wasted so much time not shipping with y'all! Jonsa fam is the best, and even if romantic love was never verbalized, look at that hug? Watch any Jonsa scene? If we were wrong, I don’t wanna be right! I love their relationship, I love how they fought for each other, I love how they love each other. Can’t wait for book Jonsa.

I echo the feelings. Got involved with the Jonsa fandom only in May of 2019. It’s been great despite the GoT finale.
I love the car ride Jancy scene after they get fired. It’s so clear that 1) Jonathan has no real idea what it’s like being a woman in that workspace and 2) Nancy gave zero thought to what that internship meant to someone of Jonathan’s background. Very layered conflict.
I could not agree more! Lots of complexity to their relationship. They experience the world in such vastly different ways. They are such different people in general, and that was a big part of Season 1, so it’s nice to see the writers bring that topic of conversation back around.
I honestly wish they delved a bit more into it. I know there wasn’t time, but its’ these small things that make me believe a 9th episode would have been beneficial to the season.
