NUT GRINDER CHRONICLES: IGNORANT VOTERS
Hello, friends! I am back for another nut grinding issue! 2010 elections maybe over elections will come again and again. Last year’s elections is what inspired me to write this article as my nuts got grinded like no other election that I have witnessed did. Why? It’s because of ignorant voters! Now I do not intend to hurt or intimidate anyone but last year’s election was not a big success as far as most Filipino thought. Voter’s lack of confidence on their TRULY chosen candidate maybe the reason for this. Most voters who elected President Noynoy only did so because they think that their candidate is a nuisance and it would be a waste to vote for him/her. On trips back and forth manila, I could hear people’s conversation:
Person1: ‘Sino binoto mo (Who did you vote for?)?’
Person2:’Si Noynoy’
Person1: ‘Bakit? (Why?)’
Person2: ‘Ehh yun daw yung sure win eh, ok na yun (It was said that he would win, I’d rather choose him than another)’
Just when I thought the ignorance was over:
Person1: ‘AKO DIN EHH (ME TOO)’
Really now?! Really?! I heard that conversation a lot of times and what ground my nut more was this ignorance ran in my family! My aunt had that conversation with her officemates, all of them working on a City Hall. Now these people are scratching their heads, joining rallies and regretting their votes. It’s your fault you had to suffer this, you relied and believed too much on what other people say you forgot you have your own mind! Elections are supposed to be the loudest voice a person can give on their government, and you waste your privilege and vote like you are in a popular contest. Grow up people! Think for your own, if not for you then vote for the next generations who will reap what your candidates will sow! I am not a hater of President Noynoy, but judging on what he has done, I am not impressed. You might say he is not there to impress me but hey, who is he trying to impress anyway? Actually, the only law that he enforced that I remembered to this day was his Wang Wang Policy. To quote my great Professor Calilung ‘If those kinds of policies and laws are what the current administration are to enforce, we will have a shallow government’. I really hope that in the next election, us thomasians can and will make a difference.
Again comments are welcome. Stay Tuned for more Nut Grinders
NUT GRINDING FACTOR: 10/10
PS
If you have read my previous nut grinder here is its NUT GRINDING FACTOR: 8.8/10
Jollibee
Jollibee, our country’s own franchise that has become quite a success and keeps improving with time. Jollibee serves various dishes, ranging from chicken joy, pancit palabok, macaroni soup, breakfast meals and more. Jollibee can be found at Dapitan and there are two of them there, Lacson-dapitan and Asturias. Having two stalls at one street is something, and the better part is, both of them never run out of customers! Why, you ask? Simple, they serve good food with a hint of Filipino flavor. Chickenjoy are a personal favorite as they are true to their title, juicylicious and crispylicious. Their chicken is also quite big for the same price at a bigger franchise. The variety dishes will also keep you coming back as none of their dishes will disappoint you, though desserts and their Spicy Chicken could do much better. This is a place to fill your hunger at a reasonable price and good choices.
Final Words
The Good: Variety of Food to choose from, Reasonably Priced, Filipino Kick in the Dishes, Actually gives Fast Service even at peak hours
The Bad: Desserts, Spicy Chicken
IRONSPIDERVENOM’S RATING: 9.9/10
NUT GRINDER CHRONICLES
Nut Grinder Chronicles are about everyday things that most of us experience that make us frustrated, angry sometimes. These articles are based on personal experiences. Again, comments are welcome.
Jeepney Drivers
Most students, and even professionals, use Jeepneys as means of their transportation. I could not imagine how most of us would go to school without this invention, imagine yourself hitch hiking from strangers everyday just to go to school. The man who thought about lengthening an ordinary Owner and using it as transportation was a genius. Today, most of the vehicles on the road are for public transportation, majority being jeepneys. So why does this thing grinds my nuts? Well, it’s not actually the jeepneys but their drivers. Here are some of their nut grinders:
1. How often have you had the misfortune of riding a jeepney that stops at every intersection waiting for a passenger? Seriously now, they would stop at every corner just to wait for a passenger, even if no one is insight. What’s worse is, when they stop on a major stop point, they wait soooooooooooo long to fill their jeep! I have experienced this kind of frustration when the jeep I rode waited for an hour to fill his jeep! AN HOUR! Telling them to drive already only angers them and they start rambling, sometimes even yelling. And most of us just shut up and wait. I know they are just doing their job but waiting an hour? REALLY?!
2. Overpricing. Another frustrating trait of MOST jeepney drivers. If the distance of your journey is more than 4kms, surely you have experienced overpricing. A trip from my place, Project 8, to UST should only cost P15 regular fare, and P13 Discounted. Most of the time, when I give them a P20 bill they give me P6 change, sometimes P5, the worst I received back was a P4! Even though I tell them I am a student, my words fell on deaf and greedy ears! These drivers put on their jeepneys,’ mag bayad ng tama ng hindi makarma’, ‘Bayad muna bago baba’, etc. but do they even give us the right change? My tip, give them an exact amount, and if you happen to ride a jeep that overpriced you, try paying them with 25centavo coins >: )
3. PAGPAPARA. Not really much of a nut grinder but still, missing your stop is frustrating, especially when it frequently happens to you. Time and again, I am dropped at the second gate when my stop is at the first. I would not blame the driver if he yells when a passenger tries to get off at a wrong stop, my point is how come when we say BAYAD PO, you hear us and not when we say PARA.
Well, those are the things that anger me about jeepney drivers. Stay Tuned XD
Tokyo Tokyo
Tokyo Tokyo, the only food chain inside UST that I frequently eat at. This one joint also has a hefty tag to pay but with its own benefits. UNLIMITED RICE. Tokyo Tokyo serves food based on Japanese cuisine, serving misono, teriyaki, karaage, etc. Almost all of them has a hint of spice on them. Their food is quite delicious and they do not just heat your order, they are newly cooked. Some meal wills come with a sauce depending on your order and, with some, a vegetable side dish.Sadly, drinks are a separate order that further heightens its already beefy tag. With fairly fast service, many choices of japanese cuisine, this is a place to be for hungry peeps with a little more cash in their billfold.
Final Words
The Good: Great tasting food, unlimited rice
The Bad: Expensive
IRONSPIDERVENOM’S RECOMMENDED: CHICKEN KARAAGE
IRONSPIDERVENOM’S RATING: 8.5/10
Rice In A Box
Rice In a Box serves mainly Chao-fan and Terriyaki meals. They serve their meals hot, but not newly cooked. This is good food but I recommend not to take too much as it may taste bland, from what me and some of my friends experience. You may say that this is a common thing, but i have eaten too much Chicken Fillet, Karaage, and Chicken Katsu and i am yet to taste them bland. For the price of P42, you have a amount of rice and toppings. Though I found the price of P39 much more pleasing, obviously. For food on the go, while walking or in a vehicle, you can’t go wrong with this.
Final Words
The Good: Cheap, Nice amount of toppings and rice
The Bad: Area under the carpark is hot, May taste bland after continous consumption
IRONSPIDERVENOM’S RECOMMENDED: CHICKEN BARBECUE
IRONSPIDERVENOM’S RATING: 7/10
