Hello! What advice would you give to someone who would like to get into clay sculpting but doesn't know where to start?

(PS: I love your art!!)

I can recommend several points to start sculpting:

~ Material Here you need to choose the plasticine that suits you. You can try using local companies that are available. Take a small piece and see how you work with it. I have long since completely switched to NSP plasticine from Chavant. I use the Hard version for small works with the need for detail. The Medium version is suitable for larger works in the sketch technique, where it is important to capture the image and form, and detail is not in the first place. I know that many sculptors prefer to work with MonsterClay plasticine, but unfortunately this material did not suit me. It feels too waxy for me.

~ Tools It is important to choose the right tools for your work. To work with plasticine, you need to have: spatulas and loops of different sizes, texturing tools (guitar strings, rakes, dots, etc.) and tools for large work, if you have plans to create such sculptures. In the photos, I showed my tools that I use most often. Some of them were bought in online stores, some were found in local stores, some were made by hand.

~ How to sculpt To learn the basics of sculpting, you can now use various video tutorials and rely on sculptures by other sculptors. Below are a few resources of sculptors, which also have educational materials.

~ Patience and practice I consider this point to be the most important among others. It often happens that after the first attempt, you can quit your work because it doesn't look like what you expected. But don't despair, it's completely normal! If it didn't work out to make one thing, it's okay, study more material on this topic and try again. In the meantime, you can practice another kind of sculpting. There are always many other attempts behind one finished work. And every attempt is important, as it adds to your experience and knowledge! And I wish you good luck in your achievements!
