“My interest in this conversation.”
Isaac raised his eyebrows before looking down at his textbook.
jack-westfall:
“Yeah,” he scoffs. “Whatever.”
Jack moves away from Isaac when he sees the look on his face. “What?”
Isaac blinks and stands up quickly, scratching the back of his neck anxiously. “Um, I have to go,” he said quickly. “I have divination homework to do.”
“Do you think I care?”
“Just, start taking care of yourself, I don’t think anyone wants you to be like this,” he said, putting a comforting hand on Jack’s shoulder. When Isaac’s hand comes into contact with Jack’s shoulder, hazy images surpass his vision. He watches from the point of view of the person, killing Faith? The bright green light of the killing curse and Faith’s scream. That’s when the vision fades and he quickly retracts his hand from Jack’s shoulder, looking at him confused for a moment.
“I’m not Avalon, how the hell should I know?”
“It’s an expression Jack, it’s too make you realize how much you aren’t taking care of yourself.”
“Well she isn’t here, is she? What does it matter?”
“What would she say if she was here?”
“Why are my sleeping habits any concern of yours, Duncan?”
“I don’t think Avalon would want you to not be taking care of yourself.”
“I’ve just lost a bit of sleep, that’s all. I’ll be fine.”
He raised his eyebrows. “A bit?”
He grabbed Isaac’s hand when they touched palms and gave it a shake. “We’re gonna get some good outta this.” He nodded.
“I hope so before anymore people die.”
“If you want anything less, find someone else.”
“What crawled up your ass and died?”
Avalon was still a touchy subject for Jack. They had left on bad terms in Jack’s mind and it had been the last time he saw her. He would never forgive himself for being so terrible to someone who did nothing but care about him. Jack clears his throat and shrugs up his shoulders once more. There was a lot he had to say about the subject, but nothing that he would want to say to someone like Isaac. Jack knew no one would understand his perspective– a murderers perspective. “I miss her.” he says simply. “And I think about her a lot.”
“I’m really sorry Jack, but if I’m being totally honest, you look like a complete mess.”
“Nice. We’re like two sides to a coin then.” He holds his hand up for a high five.
Isaac high fives Matt. Not really for a high five but more of not really leaving Matt hanging. “I guess so,” he responds.
Clement turns a page of the textbook in front of him. “Some people are weak.”
“That’s a bit harsh,” he replied.
Jack slowly closed his eyes after noticing the figure sit next to him. The last thing he wanted was someone’s sympathy, or advice. He had heard enough of both and it meant nothing to him. Exhaling slowly, the Gryffindor opened his eyes to face Isaac. There was no sense in being outwardly rude. Despite his want to be alone, Jack spared a short glance. Not many people had spared the second to ask. His eyes wandered over to meet the Ravenclaw’s for a moment before returning to the cold food in front of him. “I’m alright,” he nods. “A little tired but, I think I’ll live.”
Isaac paused for a minute, his mind constructing words to say before he makes a complete fool of himself like he usually did. “How are you holding up?” he asked. “About Avalon.”
“Ah, hence the last name. Yeah, I think I’ll go for Emery. I haven’t talked to her in a while.”
“Okay. I’ll talk to Professor Parson.”
“I have a headache, not a brain tumor.”
Isaac rolled his eyes. “Some people get ill from their headaches.”
“I..” Maura trailed off. She wasn’t alright, but she was a private person. “I can handle it,” she finally settled on.
Isaac nodded, not pushing her anymore. “I’m always here if you need me. I also know a few people in the Hufflepuff house who are pretty helpful if you ever need someone.”
