"Whimsy" is truly a wretched term. What maketh thee so carefree?
thy mother
Art thou for fucking real
i get so emotional every time i think about fanfic culture. it's just so beautiful that people are writing and anonymously posting these thousand-word stories about characters we all love and not even getting any money or public fame from it. it's literally just for the love of the game.
shout out to everyone who participates in fanfic culture, be it reading or writing fanfics. you are contributing to such a lovely thing <3
"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
indeed.com/careers/search/haunting_the_narrative
chatgpt is a threat to the symbiotic relationship between fanfic writers and their betas. we are losing our traditions. eradicate the soulless machine and ask your friend who has a full time job and 3 kids to annotate your omegaverse fanfiction like any other responsible adult.
haters see me and say christ what is that
it’s not weird to find fanfiction from 2021, or 2017, or 2014 that you’ve never read and actually taking your time to read it.
it’s not weird to love it and comment and leave kudos because the author will probably still see it someday and it will make them happy.
it’s not weird to like said author’s work so much that you want to go look for other fics from them.
it’s not weird to go through the authors profile and look for other fics from the ships you like (or maybe some that you’ll give a chance because you liked the author) and maybe bookmark them for later.
it’s not weird to read these other fics and like them too and comment on them because you actually like them and you want to let the author know.
it’s not weird to read fanfiction from 5, or 8, or 10 years ago and actually enjoy and engage with it because it’s perfectly normal to relate to something that’s less than a decade old!
let’s stop treating fanfiction like they’re instagram posts that stop being interesting in 24 hours! fanfiction is NOT social media, fanfiction is art!!! and art doesn’t get old in one day, one year, or even a decade!
read fanfiction! write fanfiction! comment on fanfiction! let’s not let fanculture die people!!!!!
Today officially marks ten years since the CA:CW U.S. theatrical release! 🎉 Happy divorce-sary, Steve/Tony fandom. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we're holding a prompt fest, which kicked off on April 12 and is currently running through October 23.
After taking submissions from you all these past few weeks, we're thrilled to share that we collected a total of 305 PROMPTS. WOW! 🤩
So what are we doing with the prompts as a fandom? Making fanworks inspired by them, of course! If you want to join the fun, here's how to participate.
General rules & guidelines
There are no sign-ups. Anyone can fill a prompt from our prompt list anytime until October 23, 11:59 PM ET (what time is that for me?).
You must be over the age of 18 to participate, however, as some prompts contain mature themes.
There is NO minimum work requirement.
There is NO limit to how many works you can create or how many prompts you can fill.
Making multiple fills for a single prompt or combining multiple prompts for a single fill is okay.
All prompts are up for grabs, so more than one person can fill a prompt.
It's up to you how much you want to follow the prompt, whether it's faithful to the prompt or only loosely related to it.
You can collaborate with a partner(s) if you'd like.
All ratings are allowed.
All fanworks are allowed such as but not limited to art, fanmixes, fanvids, fics and other creative writing such as poems, graphics/edits, gifsets, manips, meta, mood boards, podfics, music, rec lists, web weaving, and crafts.
As we're a multilingual, global fandom, fills can be in any language.
Fills must be new works made for the event.
Fills cannot be based on existing fanworks unless the creator has granted permission either to you specifically or in their transformative works statement. If you're unsure whether the statement covers the work or you can't find a statement, ask the creator.
No gen AI/LLM (e.g., ChatGPT) use is allowed.
Everyone has different viewpoints on CA:CW, but we're all fellow fans at the end of the day. Please be kind to other participants as we want this to be a fun event for everyone! ❤️
Content rules
All fills must focus on Steve and Tony's relationship, whether it's platonic (pre-slash or gen/not shippy at all), romantic, or sexual.
All relationship permutations—gen, pre-slash, unrequited or requited love, mutual or one-sided pining, established relationship, get together/get back together, breakups, etc.—are allowed.
We welcome everything from the 100% sugary sweet to the 100% bitterly dark. All kinds of endings—unhappy, ambiguous/open, bittersweet, hopeful, or happy—are welcome.
Darkness and angst all the way through "dead dove: do not eat" and works looking at the events of CA:CW critically are welcome, but character bashing is not allowed.
Other romantic/sexual relationships featuring Steve and/or Tony (including poly) are okay ONLY IF the primary focus of the fill is on Steve and Tony AND the fill concludes in one of the following ways: - Steve/Tony end up together (no poly) - Steve and Tony are single at the end - Steve and/or Tony is in a relationship with someone else at the end, BUT you make it obvious that the relationship is unhappy or doomed because of Steve's feelings for Tony/Tony's feelings for Steve
Fills must either be set in CA:CW or heavily based on CA:CW if the fill is canon-divergent, post-CA:CW, crossover, or fusion.
Guidelines on posting/sharing fills
Once you finish your fill, we encourage you to submit it to the "Steve/Tony CA:CW 10th anniversary prompt fest" AO3 collection by clicking the "Post to Collection" button on the top right corner of the collection page. Otherwise, when you post a new work, go to the "Associations" section, type "stevetonycacwpromptfest" next to "Post to Collections / Challenges," and click the collection once it appears.
You can also post the fill elsewhere in addition to or instead of AO3. Please do the following if you do, so we can share it with everyone: - Tumblr and Bluesky: @stevetonycacwfest or tag #stevetonycacwfest - Twitter: @stevetonycacw or tag #stevetonycacwfest - Anywhere else: contact us (we'll make sure to share the link on our socials and include the work in our master list at the end of the prompt fest)
Please include the prompt in the summary or author's note. If you don't want to spoil the audience, you can put it in an author's note at the end of the work.
If you discover the identity of the prompter, it's up to you whether you want to gift it to them personally or not. It's not mandatory.
Crossposting to other events is allowed as long as that event permits it (e.g., @cap-ironman's bingo, @lightsonparkave).
Now that you've read everything, go check out our list of 305 prompts!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us anytime. We look forward to seeing your fills! 💖
We heard from some of you who are toiling away on your works for the prompt fest and would like a bit more time so...
we're extending the prompt fest fill submission deadline to October 23!
If you were bummed about not having enough time to participate or finish a work, you have a few more months to get your works in. 😊

when i was younger i had a really bad fear of danny devito when i was going to sleep so my older brother gave me a watch that he set to like 8 hours ahead so that it was always daytime on the watch when i was asleep and he told me it would confuse danny devito and he would think it was daytime and get scared of the sun and leave me alon
Your brother is the best
Who the fuck changed this from vampires to Danny devito

TWO WEEKS LEFT TO SUBMIT YOUR WORKS
Not sure if you can join? Nervous about committing to an event? Don't be. Remember, this event is open to everyone 18+, not just fic writers and artists (see above for all the different types of works that you can submit!), and it's extremely easy to participate. There are NO minimum work requirements whatsoever, all fanwork types and ratings are welcome, and you're allowed to submit WIPs. You can follow the prompts closely or throw most of the prompt out the window and do your own thing.
There are 💖 305 💖 prompts to get inspired by and make something for, and you can submit your work anytime between now and the end of July 6!
Do it and you too can get responses like these (shoutout to @californiatowhee for the first work submitted to the prompt fest!):
ONE MORE WEEK TO SUBMIT A WORK!
Steve's birthday is around the corner, so what better way to celebrate if you're an angst fiend than creating something that'll break (or mend) his heart? There's still a lot of time to send something in! ❤️🔥
