Thank you for leaving me. Thank you for not believing in me, for shattering my self-confidence along with my heart, for being "the one that got away." From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
“I decided that rather than staying bitter, I would get better. I began my with new perspective. Instead of focusing on feeling lonely, I dwelt on being independent. Instead of only concentrating on the faults that you viciously pointed out, I looked for ways to improve myself.”

When Frank and Medina Fredericks first sat down for coffee together in 2008, they didn’t waste any time with small talk. “Frank had 20 questions for me,” Medina joked to The Huffi
“What sets Frank and Medina apart is that they got some of these discussions out of the way before they even started dating -- something they said other interfaith couples should consider doing as well.”
We're excited to start introducing you to the team! Every few days, we'll post a profile of one of our Team Ishqr members. First up, our own Dear Fathima!
Name: Fathima Ali
What do you in life (job, school, etc)? I'm a 2nd year student in a PsyD program for Clinical Psychology as well as a teaching assistant for Theories in Counseling and Psychology and for Substance Abuse. I also love learning aerial silks and taking trapeze classes. I love food and planning events. Always up for an adventure!
What do you do for Ishqr? I'm a Couples Therapist and Analyst. I'm responsible for creating the surveys, the advice column (Dear Fathima), and helping users navigate the world of online dating.
Why Ishqr? I'm really passionate about helping Muslims connect with one another and build meaningful relationships. I absolutely love couple's therapy and understanding how people function in relationships. It's a great feeling when you can see the light bulb go off in someone's head and they realize what needs to be done to change a situation. I'm a listener by default and I enjoy helping people work through obstacles they may be facing. There is a marriage crisis in the community and I joined Ishqr to do my part in trying to change how things are done. I think this generation has the capacity to really set a tone for the future so it's exciting to be part of a new movement.

The thing about marriage is that it does take work. Romance -- that's the easy part. Love -- that's fairly easy too. But loving someone day in and day out, with annoying personal habits and work and kids and life -- that's the kind of thing that can get old, fast.
“ Loving you never gets old. It changes. It evolves. Sometimes it's more routine and work than romance and love, but that's part of what I want. Because it's true that nothing worthwhile comes easily. It's true that love should feel natural, but it's even more true that it requires a few trickles of blood -- and salty sweat and tears.”
Do we really have to date a taller guy to feel feminine?
Height is often a factor for girls (and guys!) when deciding what they want in a partner, but as this author explains, that isn't necessarily the best way to go.
Honest discussions about love are what Ishqr is all about! Read more from this blog post here: https://medium.com/…/dinosaurs-skeletons-of-who-we-are-and-…

I had let this go on far too long.
“Sometimes it is hard to let go, but it can be so much more emotionally damaging to stay.”
