Truth.
can this site please stop spreading around false information in anti-vegan posts. the amount of posts with inaccurate claims about veganism that pass over my dash is disturbing. just because you eat animals and animal byproducts doesnāt make it okay to spread false informationā by saying animal agriculture isnāt cruelty towards animals, isnāt horrible to the environment, that eating vegan isnāt healthy, that itās an expensive diet only for the financially privileged, or that vegans somehow perpetuate the use of inhumaneā farm labourers more than meat eaters do. please stop. none of this is true. If youāre not vegan then youāre not vegan. it is what it is, but donāt be petty about it. and fyi even if there are some asshole vegans out there (maybe you think im an asshole), it doesnāt invalidate their message. a shitty vegan doesnāt mean that veganism must be stopped through āalternative factsā. thank you
like look I know you don't go around kicking puppies but that's your lifestyle choice, don't go forcing that on me. it's my personal choice to kick as many puppies as I like. nooo don't judge me or criticize me that's so mean :(
in light of billie eilishās āhot takeā about veganism, Iād just like to say I am so sick and tired of non-indigenous people using our communities and practices as an excuse, to hide behind their own shame when really they donāt give a shit about indigenous peoples. they donāt talk about us in any other aspect besides this one and itās only to cover their own backs. indigenous communities that have to hunt for their own food for survival is very different than going into a supermarket and buying packaged meat. these communities have quotas, they use every part of the animal, and they are responsible for taking care of most of our ecosystem. any good, intersectional vegan knows this and understands that it would be very colonial of them to go into these spaces and try and change that. saying this, there are a lot of indigenous people who are vegans and they are largely ignored because it doesnāt fit their narrative of the ānoble savageā which is also a racist view of indigenous people.
A ton of vegan, vegetarian, or other pro animal messaging fucking sucks. It always pre supposes a love for the animal, and empathy for them, I'm sorry, but I just don't give a shit, and the people over at taco bell don't either.
You don't need to care about animals to recognize the evil of the meat industry
You don't need to empathize with animals to be a vegan.
"but what are we going to DO with all the farm animals if we stop eating them" ah yes because systemic change famously happens overnight.
If you still donāt think dairy is fucked up and harmful to cows hereās a little fact I learned today:
⢠In 1980, the average milk yield/year of a dairy cow was around 2,800 litres.
⢠In 2017, the average milk yield/ year of a dairy cow has doubled to a total of more than 5,700 litres.
And, to drive my point home, a beef cow (representing the closest to an unmodified lactation) on average only produces around 1,800 litres/year or less.Ā
It is inherently abusive to manipulate an animal to produce over 3 times the amount of milk they naturally would, which not only makes them susceptible to diseases such as hypocalcaemia, ketosis, lameness, and mastitis, but also may prevent them from safely nursing their calf even if they were left alone.Ā
Please donāt support it.
Additionally, broiler (meat-bred) chickens in just 50 years have been bred in such a way they they actually cannot easily live out their natural lifespan. They have been bred entirely to suit a 7 week lifespan, so their heart cannot compensate long-term with the muscle mass and growth it needs to support, and their skeleton cannot support such fast and massive bodily growth. Even chickens younger than 7 weeks old are known to drop from heart attacks if theyāve been exposed to stress such as a sudden change in temperature, or a diet too high in energy.
Animal agriculture is inherently inhumane.
Please donāt support it.
more leftists should be vegan. veganism and leftism operate on the same beliefs. social justice, no exploitation of labor, autonomy, environmental concern, intersectionality, an equal and just living etc. leftist praxis should include veganism
Okay look, veganism as a concept is not inherently bad. I see and understand the ethical concerns surrounding factory farming and animal cruelty
BUT
There are ways to not support that and still eat meat. Support your local farmers. Learn how to hunt or fish. Talk to your local Indigenous people. Our local community loves to talk about using the whole animal and not taking more than you need. Talk to your community. They have invaluable experience and resources
Iām the only vegetarian in my family because I legitimately just donāt like meat. But I will try fish my dad caught and prepared. Because I know he did not waste any of the fish. The dog gets the skins and the gutsā it helps his coat. The bones get composted. Anything not used itās taken back to the river and either the bears eat it or it decomposes naturally and helps the natural cycle of the forest. I have a friend who only eats meat if he shot it and prepared it himself because he knows exactly what happened throughout the process.
It is possible to eat meat and be ethical. Just like itās possible to not eat meat and be unethical. I am personally doing my part to be as ethical as I can while not eating meat. And I do understand that thereās no one size fits all model for anything. And I know Iām not going to change minds, but thatās my experience and I think everyone deserves to make a well informed choice when it comes to the food they put in their body. At the end of the day, do what is healthy for your body.
Be kind to each other š
You've ignored the central belief of veganism, that all sentient creatures are owed a right to life and freedom. It doesn't matter how painless their death, how nice their confinement, or how economically their corpse is used. They do not exist to be used. Nature and tradition do not determine morality.
"Veganism is anti-Indigenous" is a talking point non-Indigenous people use to avoid accountability, and it's literally the noble savage trope. It assumes we all hunt and fish, erasing Indigenous vegans, plant-based traditions, AND the fact that the meat and dairy industry is actively destroying Indigenous lands, waters, and food systems. Using us as a shield while buying your meat from the grocery store is tokenism. We're not your excuse.

"But what about-" what about them? Are YOU them? Is that YOUR case? If not, then stop using them as an excuse for why you walk past the black beans, tofu, lentils, and other affordable plant-based protein options in your grocery store to get your overpriced ground beef from a corporation that's destroying the Amazon rainforest to mass produce the cows yall can't stop eating.
Edgar's Mission
Not feminist as in "women should be included in the draft" but feminist as in "being drafted is a violation of bodily autonomy for any gender".
The draft should not exist. Drafting people into the military is a violation of human rights. You should not be able to force someone to risk their life. If you can't find enough people who care about a conflict to keep it going then it simply shouldn't keep going. You can't even force someone to donate a kidney using government power, why the fuck can you force them to donate their whole body and life to a cause they don't agree with or don't care about?
"People are not property!" - *loud cheering*
"This includes prisoners! They are not suddenly property of the state when they're convicted!" - *a little less cheering*
"And that includes children who are not their parents' property!" - *almost no cheering*
"What? I thought we said people aren't property?"
"animals also aren't property" *angry shouting*
Real shitty to see a Reddit post (could end the post there tbh) saying fishing for fun is cruelty, and the comments are 99% āyep, but I donāt really care.ā I guess the cognitive dissonance of carnism is easier to understand because at least theyāre not like, aware of everything, usually ignorant to the horrors of factory farming and the dairy industry whether willingly or not. But to dismiss the blatant suffering of animals because itās ājust a fish, so who cares?ā is disheartening. But I donāt expect much from people.
Oh so it's okay to judge people for their words and actions now?
