Perhaps we should love ourselves so fiercely that when others see us they know exactly how it should be done.
Rudy Francisco (via quotethat)
I hate my face. But I’m trying to find the beauty and love in it. By getting the haircut I want. By facial treatments and diamond peels. By going to the dentist to get my teeth fixed. I hate my body. But I’m trying to find the beauty and love in it. By running five miles a day and eating healthy food. By getting a massage once a month and a body scrub. By trying not to smoke too much. I hate my brain. But I’m trying to find the beauty and love in it. By seeking help from psychiatrists and psychologists. By taking my medications every day as required. By believing that there’s always hope. I hate myself, but I’m trying to love me one day.

I have never seen it laid out so simply. <3
i dont trust people who are attracted to me…like why? write me a 10 page paper with a legitimate thesis and valid points backing up your claim or you fake.
Minimum wage: $7.25
$7.25 x 40 hour full time work week: $290
$290 x 4 weeks per month: $1,160
In every Southern state (didn’t have time to look at the rest of the country) you can find some sort of studio apartment for around $500 per month, sometimes less than that. Why bother lying about something so easily disproven?
Because Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t going to fact check him, and they’ll ignore any contrary evidence that’s presented to them anyways.
Things like this really tick me off and It’s not political or anything but it’s the fact that you think all that money is there. Here’s what I mean;
That weekly check comes to, according to you, 290. Most places DO NOT pay for your half hour lunch that is required by law. So your beginning number was wrong. $7.25 x 7.5 hours a day x 5 days a week only gets you $271.88. Most people in America get paid bi-weekly, so let’s double it to get the budget. $543.75. That’s GROSS, not NET. Out of that comes anywhere between 10% and 15% taxes depending on state so we’ll low ball it at 10%. Automatically down to $489.38 a pay check. Now health insurance. Usually anywhere from 70-100 a pay check for the cheapest plans. Again, we’ll low ball and go $70. So now we have $419.39 a paycheck. x 2 = $839.
Eight hundred thirty nine dollars. A MONTH.
But again, you seem to think that’s fair. So let’s proceed. You say rent is $500? Okay. This person now has $339 left to buy groceries for the whole month, pay utilities, car payment, car insurance, and gas money to get to work.
Those are the bare needs. You have to eat. You have to pay for heat, water, garbage removal, gas and or electricity because apartments do not always include things and rarely all of the above. Most cities in America do not have public transportation. Mine doesn’t despite the fact that our population is over 15,000 people, not counting a taxi. If you have a car, you have to pay that. If you have a car, legally you have to have car insurance. You have to pay that. You have to have gas in that car to get to work to make that money.
Now if you can tell me you can get all of that out of $339 you’re lying.
You are so focused on rent that you aren’t thinking about everything else people have to pay for. Rent was an example. This is a breakdown of the budget you gave me and it’s not possible to live off that in 2017 America.
And BECAUSE this person makes over $800 a month, they probably won’t qualify for financial aid or food stamps. $800 is the line in my state where they won’t help you. No food stamps, financial aid, or government housing if you make more than $800 a month.
Why does it bother you that people deserve to live above the poverty line?
Also they bring up southern states…fiancé and I currently have been looking at apartments…studio to one bedroom…min across the board almost always over $700…not $500…
And all of that is assuming that you’re living in Absoluteshitsville in Bumfuck County, Nowhere. 62% of Americans live in urban areas according to the 2015 census. And cities are way the fuck more expensive to live in. Think $1000/mo for rent (if you’re very, very lucky) with increases in the cost of utilities, food, and car needs. Maybe if you’re lucky enough to live in a city with robust (or at least decent-enough) public transportation, you can cut out the cost of having a car. But even then, you’re still paying well over $1k/mo for bare essentials.
“But why not just live somewhere cheaper?“ asks Richie Rachel without a shred of self-awareness.
Well Rachel, the thing about Bumfuck County is that it isn’t exactly overburdened with jobs. Even minimum wage crap. So most people logistically need (and frankly, in my experience, want) to live in or near a city where shit is, unfortunately, wicked fucking expensive.
So not only is it not possible to live in that “ideal” bare fucking minimum, there’s good chances you won’t find work in the places you can “afford” to live on minimum wage.
(And y’know, let’s leave aside that FDR intended minimum wage to be “more than a bare subsistence”; and that people with more capital to spend actually tend to invigorate economies; and that millions of people scraping by to make ends meet is disgraceful when eight dudebros make as much as the lower-half of the entire fucking globe, but hey that’s not at all important. : ) )
Let’s also not forget that most places require that your monthly income is three to four times what the rent is before they will even consider renting to you. It’s almost as if they know that one small emergency could put a poor person behind in their rent and that risk is just too much for them to provide you with basic shelter. I once had a rental application denied, after paying the $50 application fee, because I made $50 less per month than their requirement.
The alternative is to get a bunch of roommates, but this means you need more bedrooms, which makes the rent go up anywhere from $100 to $200 per additional bedroom, and everyone’s combined income must still be 3-4 times the rent payment. Rarely will you find someone willing to share a bedroom, unless they are your intimate partner, and that can cause a lot of problems too, especially for women. Poor women tend to stay in abusive relationships longer because they can’t afford to move out, or they end up moving in with a guy they know might be no good for them because there is literally no other way to keep themselves off the street. I went through this exact thing a couple years ago.
And if you do find a place that will rent to you despite all that, they are usually pretty shady and slow to respond when there is a problem, if they respond at all. I once had a leaking air conditioner that was so bad my hall carpet was soaked for 4 straight weeks. I had to wrap my feet in plastic bags just to get to the bathroom. When they finally did send someone out to fix it, they discovered that a rat had crawled into the drain under the AC and died, blocking it. So I had filthy dead rat water polluting my apartment for almost a month that! They never replaced the carpet, and when I finally moved out they refused to give me my deposit back citing “carpet replacement.”
Yeah I live in Colorado and our income had to be 3 times the rent to be accepted, and the rent here in Denver is about 1100 for a one bedroom on the low end. Not including utilities. I’ve had to consider moving out of state because I can barely afford to live here… jobs are scarce and they don’t pay very well. The minimum wage here is $9.30, but even making 12 dollars an hour I was seriously struggling. It needs to be 15 already, this is ridiculous. Denver is too rich of a city to be getting away with paying people 9 damn dollars an hour.
Conservatives’ ‘pro-life’ rhetoric means nothing.
The absence of compassion and empathy in conservative politics is a cancer on our country.
can we please get some sort of mental health education for parents i cant believe how many are in denial of their child’s condition
Like, I want to make something very clear.
When I quote someone saying ‘enough of this clique shit we need to stick together’, I am specifically aiming that toward those of us who have more privilege than others.
It is not the job of black women to bring white women into their feminism. It is the job of white women to go to black women and say, ‘what can we do to support you, as your sisters?’
It is the job of able-bodied people to go to our disabled neighbors and say, “What do you need us to do and say to the people who aren’t listening to you? If you can’t march, where do you need me to march? If you can’t carry a sign, what sign do you want me to carry?”
It is the job of straight and cis people to go to LGBT+ people and say, “Where and when do you need our protection? What safe spaces should we guard? Which children need intervention? When do you need us to walk with you, whether it’s through dark alleys where the bashers wait, or into a restaurant bathroom, or in a parade?”
It is always the privileged who cut the marginalized out of their activism. So it is the responsibility of the privileged to drop the pride and start asking how we can help. Today my son, a straight white cis boy, told me he feels sad because there are so many people like him who act in hatred toward others, but he cares about all people. I told him, “If you care about people, show them you care by listening to them. They will tell you what they need if you listen.”
Don’t Occupy Wall Street. Don’t join another straight white brigade.
Reach out. Offer. Listen.

It’s funny how quick people are to harshly criticize things like art, media and cinema when it makes them uncomfortable. Because if it makes you uncomfortable there must be something wrong with it, right? There must be something tragically wrong, horribly flawed and totally misconstrued about it?
There’s no chance that the mere action of it making you shift hastily back and forth in your seat as you fight the urge to look away is because it’s challenging you to see things from a different perspective than the one you have taken and accepted for the entirety of your lifetime??
And there’s not even the slightest possibility that maybe, just maybe, that is exactly what it’s doing right?
EDIT: Because someone messaged me telling me I was outcasting white people via this post just because I’m not white, I wanted to add an addendum that states, for the record, that I am white. As white as they come, actually. 100% blonde haired, green eyed, white American. I’m just, surprisingly enough, self aware of my privilege and ballsey enough to admit I have it. Shocking, I know.
you’re all so obsessed with love and being loved, what about just going to sleep
okay but zendaya, lupita, and rihanna ALWAYS put in legit effort to match the theme at every met gala they attend and their looks are always innovative and different.. like last year rihanna’s dress was like 50 feet long and lupita’s hair was really one of a kind and it was inspired by an infamous black icon.. all the girls pull so many one-of-a-kind looks, really pushing the line between art and fashion. AND YET every fucking magazine or news article or youtube celeb news shitshow can seem to only talk about what the kardashians are wearing?? despite the fact that literally every year they wear some glittery, sheer and tight fitting dress LITERALLY ! EVERY ! YEAR ! ITS NOTHING DIFFERENT AND IT NEVER FITS THE THEME BITCH IM T I R E D
