Today’s Isopod is:
The Harford’s Isopod
Aega harfordi, Cirolana harfordi and Cirolana toyamaensis.
It’s been a hot minute since I made an isopost, and Harfords Isopod is a wonderful reason to post!
There are 48 genera of these cuties. They’re an aquatic species that can be described as both a scavenger and hunter. They use their adorable antennules to pick up the scent of food. Things like polychaetes and crustaceans. They have also been known to attack full on fish and cause problems for fisheries. It’s believed they have the ability to sense when an animal is sick or dying and will parasitize them. Just one meal can sustain them for three weeks. They’re found along beaches, rocky shores, mussel beds, mangroves and lagoons. They’ve got a discontinuous range all about the North Pacific. In the eastern pacific British Columbia to San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur. They’ve also been introduced into Australian waters, where they are considered invasive. They range from about 1-2 cms long (0.393701 -0.8 inches). They’ve got a lovely oval shape and are white, with tiny brown dots covering them, making them appear tan. They’ve also got big ol peepers, which makes them more distinctive from other similar pods. They’re considered least concern and a fairly common isopod
Overall a delightful scavenger/hunter isopod. I hope I find one in the wild someday
Today’s Isopod is the
Tounge Eating Louse: Cymothoa exigua
These suckers are an aquatic variant of isopods in the parasitoid isopod family, Cymothoidae. Cymothoa Exigua enters a fish’s body through the gills, and the female attaches itself to the tongue, while the male attaches to the gill, arching behind and beneath the female. Once settled, the female will sever the blood vessels in the fishes tongue, causing it to wither and fall off. From then on the female will continue to eat the host fish’s blood and mucus. This crazy method of feeding is what got them their name.
They are also protandric hermaphrodites! Thus making my favorite images of them the times the infect a clown fish. Twinning!!
an isopod!

Going to be taking a break from isopods until I feel better. Thank you all for your love and patience, I promise the silly crustaceans will be back!
Sorry for missing yesterday’s isopod. I’ve been having some health struggles and forgot to post yesterday. Thank you for your understanding
It’s Flat Fuck Friday so today’s Isopod Of The Day is
Porcellionides pruinosus
This is a larger family of isopods, which includes the previously mentioned Powder Orange Isopod as well as Powder Blue Isopods and many others
These guys are the isopods of the day because they cannot conglobate, unlike isopods in the armadillidae family. This makes them wonderful flat fucks
Time to share this freak here.
Yup, this guy's made the rounds a few times on other sites, now he lives here.
