Hello!

This is the Rainworld rp blog for my iterator and slugcat OCs

Guiding Star (GS): A very kind and understanding iterator. Despite Abandoning finding a solution to The Great Problem she keeps busy with studying the marine life and interacting with visitors.

Bleeding Night (BN): While she may be the group senior she is most certainly not the most rational or patient. Currently located 48,453 feet below the surface as a result of structural failure.

The Typhoon: A (probably genetically modified) slugcat. It possesses an abnormally long, thin, and finned tail for a slugcat, allowing it to swim remarkably fast underwater. At a glance its skin may appear glossy and smooth however any closer look will reveal it is covered in hundreds of small, hardened scales which it uses to help travel during the rain. However these adaptations are not without downsides, as The Typhoon will quickly dehydrate when out of water. Serves as a messenger for the local group and has claimed GS as it's owner.

Its skin appears smooth and sleek, but closer inspection reveals a multitude of small yet durable scales. There is no doubt that while originally suited for the ocean, its adaptations have offered it a unique advantage against the heavy downpours.*

*Already possessing the mark of communication, it looks at you expectantly.*

*SPOL, upon noticing the slugcat, turns to face it. She eyes the creature up and down inquisitively before deciding to get closer and converse.*

"Ah, here you are, at long last. What a peculiar little...thing, you are. I can only assume you to be Guiding Star's messenger, afterall I am not expecting any other guests. In that case, you must know already what is that I want from you."

*After all of that, she holds out one open hand towards the slugcat while holding up a purple data pearl with the other, in clear view.*

Hello! If you're reading this then my messenger must have reached you. Please take good care of it; I've become quite fond of it recently. Make sure it has as much water as you can spare while it recuperates, as impressive of a feat it is to travel during the rain I can only imagine it's quite exhausting. Sorry if it eats any neuron flies of yours I've found slugcats to be uniquely annoying in this aspect. Enjoy the research logs I've provided on this pearl. *SPOL takes the teal pearl and after taking the time to read the attached message, she lowers herself further down to slowly (and even a bit hesitantly) caress the slugcat's head.*

"How pleasant of her to add an opening letter, I should have thought of that as well. But it's better not to have superfluous information among all of that important data. As for you little messenger, if you leave my chamber you'll surely be able to find a small room close by that I've repurposed to hold in some water for the occasion of your arrival."

*She goes quiet for a few seconds and glances around her chamber and then back to the creature in front of her.*

"...but perhaps you don't have to leave immediately. I could use some company."

*The slugcat flinches at the sudden contact but quickly accepts it and leans its head into SPOL's hand. It must've found the flooded room before entering her chamber as its scales are still wet with water trapped beneath them. The slugcat, sufficiently hydrated and its stomach full of what SPOL can only assume to be her own neuron flies, lays down, content.*

*After remaining quiet for a few more moments, the iterator decided to lower herself further down to effectively sit on the floor of her chamber.*

"Yes, yes, it's best if you rest well. It's vital information that you are carrying. Perhaps even far more important to me than to Guiding Light...You see...one of my neighbors also is having issues with quick degradation of their can due to neglect. And it's...partially my fault."

*Followed by yet another few seconds of quiet thought, SPOL shook her head and lifted herself above the floor.*

"Oh, why am I even telling you all of this. I don't expect you to understand it. Just be careful. And don't you dare eating any more of my neuron flies. It would not take me long to figure out how to un-engineer you."

*At this the slugcat exits the chamber to presumably rest and begin the long journey back to their owner.*

SPOL: ...Who was it. Who told you anything about me? And I'd say most importantly: who are you? I thought I made it clear to those two I wanted to be left alone. But oh, no sense complaining about them now. Are you not aware of the impact purposed organisms can have on the ecosystem? You better have a good reason for presenting such a bold request.

GS: I am so very sorry to contact you out of the blue and I understand the hazards of purposed organisms but I am out of options. My stockpile of sacrificial anodes is quickly dwindling and without a more permanent solution my can will succumb to saltwater corrosion and collapse within the next 200 cycles. One of my neighbors has already collapsed and after me the rest of my local group will follow. My only ask is that the organism is able to consume rust and repair corrosion the entire length of my legs.

Regardless, I have thousands of cycles worth of deep-ocean marine life studies if you would be interested in those. I believe my local group is one of the few to be built above such a deep part of the ocean. It's quite fascinating really, the crust at the deepest parts can seep void fluid into the waters and it's not rare to observe species of fauna or flora imbued with void fluid the deeper you go.

My goal is to catalogue and maintain the local fauna and flora, and it takes many efforts to get rid of purposed organisms. Those beasts really are made to last. Having the chance of expanding my database does admittedly spur my curiosity...and perhaps solving your problem could...help me solve some of my own...

...so be it. I am willing to collaborate with you and put my bio-engineering equipment at your disposal. But I'll be the maximum authority for the duration of the whole process, we cannot afford to make mistakes.

GS: Wonderful! And that can-top garden sounds amazing. The scenery around my can is... barren to say the least. Now, may I suggest a slug-like design? One that would be able to easily traverse the portions of my legs that are above water, while also retaining their grip and function when submerged and subjected to extreme pressures.

SPOL: I must say, that's a smart idea. The bodies of such creatures are already generally rather soft and somewhat resistant to pressure. Their affinity with water does however require some improvements. But nothing I cannot manage. The rust removal is definitely the trickiest feature to engineer, then again you are lucky you asked me, I can assure you nobody could be as efficient (and knowledgeable) as I am in this field.

GS: Perfect. I'm fully capable of incubating as many of these organisms as needed once I have the genome sequence so transportation will not be an issue. I'll upload as much data as I can onto a pearl and give it to my messenger. I must say this is much farther than they have ever traversed so it may take some time for them to reach you. Once they arrive give them a pearl with the genetic info and any mechanical designs embedded in it. Do give them some time to recuperate though; they're mostly aquatic and I'm not sure how well they'll handle the dry environment of an iterator not specifically designed with marine life in mind.

I took it upon myself to carry out a census of the sorts, to check how many of us were still left that were not...significantly incapacitated. Like, I can assume, your neighbor. May I ask what the cause of the collapse was?

No worries! I've attempted some diagnosis of her can but it's a bit hard with it having sunk several leagues deep. So far I've determined the collapse to be caused by a maintenance failure leading to catastrophic levels of salt-water corrosion. I do hope she's okay down there. As unreasonable as she could be sometimes I did quite enjoy her company.

The individuals in my local group can be rather...eccentric. It's not negative, of course! Well, it used to be endearing, but now it became more worrying than anything. We all had some...issues.

I see. It appears that no iterator these days is without significant problems. Me and my local group are beginning to run out of sacrificial anodes to prevent the corrosion of our can and legs. After so many cycles our stockpiles have dwindled and the surrounding environment has been stripped clean of anything of use. My neighbor, Bleeding Night, was only the first. I fear that I too will soon struggle to prevent corrosion. If I had the resources I would bio-engineer a creature to assist in this... you don't happen to possess a functional bio-engineering laboratory within your facility walls, do you?

I must admit, I am not very experienced with purposed organisms, granted, I do have the necessary information for the creation of such organisms, but I lack much of the resources. However! One of my neighbors, Simple Pile Of Leaves is very experienced in that field, as much as she proclaims not to be. She's a little difficult and on top of that she doesn't quite like me. But I believe that if you were able to get into contact and talk to her, she'd understand! It is definitely worth an attempt.

I see. It appears that no iterator these days is without significant problems. Me and my local group are beginning to run out of sacrificial anodes to prevent the corrosion of our can and legs. After so many cycles our stockpiles have dwindled and the surrounding environment has been stripped clean of anything of use. My neighbor, Bleeding Night, was only the first. I fear that I too will soon struggle to prevent corrosion. If I had the resources I would bio-engineer a creature to assist in this... you don't happen to possess a functional bio-engineering laboratory within your facility walls, do you?

Oh! No worries at all. It's actually been quite lonely here since the collapse of my nearest neighbor.

CA: Ah, very well! My name Is Cacophonic Agreements, I am located in a rather small group of only four iterators that we colloquially like to define as "The Four Columns". I took it upon myself to carry out a census of the sorts, to check how many of us were still left that were not...significantly incapacitated. Like, I can assume, your neighbor. May I ask what the cause of the collapse was?

No worries! I've attempted some diagnosis of her can but it's a bit hard with it having sunk several leagues deep. So far I've determined the collapse to be caused by a maintenance failure leading to catastrophic levels of salt-water corrosion. I do hope she's okay down there. As unreasonable as she could be sometimes I did quite enjoy her company.

I must ask, was there any progress on finding a solution?

Sadly nothing since Sliver of Straw's death. I turned most of my computations towards other goals when those rumors of an iterator with a case of the rot spread around the planet. I still run simulations in the background of course but so far they've produced nothing of interest.
