The right amount of passion, spice, understanding, honesty, trust, forthcomingness, and openness Ali Hazelwood was able to display in these characters was incredible.
Scarlett's struggles are met with Lukas's patience and understanding.
Vandy (Scarlett) can be insightful, self-deprecating, immensely intelligent, and an overachiever, but also quiet, shy, and blend into the background. Or so she thought. With Lukas, it's not the same. The trust and bond they share allow her to just be, to just exist. She stops letting her past, and her failures, define her. She begins looking forward to things, to the future, to Lukas.
To other people, Lukas may seem cold, uncaring, overbearing, hard working, and a freaking all-star. What they don't see is soft, caring, steel unwavering eyes and a healing soul. Scarlett is fortunate enough to see those parts of him. To understand him as equally as he understands her. He matches her in a way he didn't think he could ever match anyone. She fills the space that had been missing so long in his life.
I just really loved this book. Would definitely read it again. Such a well-done work of art.
