The fact that Star Trek: The Original Series was made in the 60’s simultaneously gives the show a charm impossible to make now and a very specific form of frustration that can only be achieved by things made in that era. No show nowadays could get away with having a character stand still in terror for ten seconds as a rock falls on them.

ive been thinking about this line in relationship to jon and cecil and how they relate to knowledge
jon, the voyeur, who gathers all knowledge and hoards it for himself, archives it for the eye, who struggles to communicate with others, who finds using his brain to gain knowledge to be foreign and difficult (mag194). he has all the information in the world at his disposal but is unable to connect dots or draw conclusions or form hypotheses without tapping back into his humanity.
cecil, the exhibitionist, who spreads all knowledge and exposes secrets, who voices what the eye knows, who struggles to remember, whos brain is like a sieve that knowledge passes through. he has all the knowledge of the world at his disposal but isn't meant to hold any of it long enough to analyze it, learn from it, grow from it, is only meant to see you in your private and vulnerable moments and broadcast that as truth
